Prolouge
Blood. So much blood all over me. I could see my men and women running frantically, trying to subdue the sudden attack on our mansion. The place is in ruins, broken furniture and artifacts mixed with the dead bodies of our men and our enemies. My body froze when I heard the blood-chilling scream of someone. I instantly recognized the screams of my wife and I ran toward our bedroom. Please be safe, my love. God, please. I forced my legs to run faster, but the bullet lodged in my upper thigh made it difficult. The scene in front of me when I entered the room left me shattered.
My beautiful wife, Anna, was on the floor in a pool of blood, and my little girl, Anaya, was terrified and screaming at the top of her lungs. A man who was standing on top of my wife’s body had a sinister smile. I shot him. He fell to the ground, grunting. I dashed over to my wife, who was struggling to breathe. “Anna, please, Amore, stay with me,” I begged. She exhaled forcefully and extended her trembling hand, which I grasped and kissed as tears streamed down my cheeks. “Please,” I begged.
“Mama,” Anaya rushed up to us, sat on the floor, and murmured, “Mama hurt. Daddy, Mama has a boo-boo.” As I held her, I tucked her beneath my arm. “S-Save her, mi Amore. You two are my entire world. I love you, “Anna murmured, as her hand slipped from mine to the floor. My heart stopped beating. Anaya screamed out to her mother, “Mama... Mama... Mama,” in an attempt to wake her up. My heart was broken.
“Boss, we...” Gio burst into the room and abruptly came to a halt. “Boss,” he replied quietly. “You know what you have to do, Gio,” I said as I looked him in the eyes and handed him my Anaya. I stared at my little girl, who was weeping and attempting to reach out to me again. I said to her as I held her in my arms, “You shall stay with Uncle Gio, my brave Passero. Daddy must accompany Mama to work. We hope to meet you soon. Daddy loves you so much”
“No... No... No... Plwsh D-D-daddy!” she cried. She cried so much that her eyes and nose were swollen and red. My heart couldn’t handle it any longer, so I shouted before I changed my mind. “Gio, go. Now!” I roared and turned away.
That scream still haunts me, “Daddyyyyyy.”
