LOGINCeline's POV
I sat beside my bed, my back resting against the bed, for the first time in years, I let myself stop pretending to be the bad girl everyone believed I was. I looked completely broken, my fingers trembled slightly as I held my phone against my ear. I had dialed his number. After years of pretending to hate him, that I never needed him, I found myself wanting to see him, to hear his voice. The line kept ringing. I parted my lips, waiting with bated breath. Anxious and afraid that he might not pick up. The call finally connected and I parted my lips to speak. My words hung in my throat, I couldn't bring myself to say anything. Instead, my eyes became filled with tears. One tear slipped down my cheek as I forced back a sniff. Suddenly, everything I had spent two years holding inside came crashing down. A sob escaped my lips. I covered my mouth with my free hand but it did nothing to stop the tears. I hate that I was weak with him. I hate how he makes me feel. But I can't deny that I haven't forgotten him, neither have my feelings disappeared. My shoulders shook as I curled against the side of my bed, letting go of my phone, I cried harder. I had missed him. And I hated that I missed him. After all these years, hearing his voice was the only thing I wanted. Dave's POV I hesitated for a long while before sliding to the green button. There was silence on the other end for a second. My hands clenched as I waited, to hear her voice. Then, I heard a sob. My face furrowed quickly, I picked up the phone like I could grab her from the other end and pull her out of the screen. Another sob came and it became louder. My breaths became heavy with anger. Every broken sob tightened something inside my chest, I hated hearing her like this. Hated knowing that, once again, she was hurting because of me. My fingers curled tightly around the phone. I wanted to speak, to comfort her and apologize for what happened. *…That I missed her.* At the thought of that, I swallowed hard, restraining myself before I lost control. I clenched my free hand into a fist, forcing myself to remain silent. This was for the better, the more heartbroken she was, the more she would forget all about her feelings for me. As I listened to her cry, my chest grew tighter and tighter until I felt suffocated. I cut the call and stormed out of my room with a deadpan expression. I walked into the training room, my anger rolling off of me like a dark cloud. I grabbed a gun from the table, loaded it and stepped toward the shooting range. Bang! The first shot echoed through the room. I didn't put on headgear, wanting the sound of the gun to clear my head of the sound of her cries. I fired another and another. Each shot carried the frustration I couldn't put into words. My jaw remained clenched as I stared at the targets ahead, imagining every emotion I had been trying to bury. Bang! Bang! Bang! My breathing grew heavier as I kept shooting, but it didn't ease the pain. I lowered the gun for a moment and dragged a hand through my hair. "What the hell is wrong with me?" I muttered. I had faced enemies without flinching, I had dealt with betrayal, threats and danger. But somehow, Celine had managed to shake something inside me that I didn't understand. *Or maybe I wasn't trying hard enough to deny it, and that's why it is so frustrating.* I raised the gun again and stared long at the already destroyed figure in front of me. I fired the last shot and the echo filled the room. No matter how many times I pulled the trigger, the image of Celine, her tearful face, refused to leave my mind. The meeting had finally come to an end. I leaned back in my chair, my eyes swept across the men seated around the table. No one spoke for a moment, the atmosphere remained tense. One of the men cleared his throat, sharing glances with a few people before he spoke. "What about the Sawyer company?" My gaze shifted toward him. "What about the company?" I fired back. He swallowed fast. "Is Celine Sawyer really going to take over?" I straightened in my chair, my expression hardened. "She will." I answered firmly. My eyes moved around, I watched them hesitate, reluctant about my decision. They seemed unsatisfied. "It's her father's wish and I intend to see that wish fulfilled. Celine will take her rightful position when the time comes" The men exchanged glances before one of them nodded. "Now that you've taken control of the Marino family, you're the one calling the shots. We won't dare object" I gave a low, hard chuckle. I could hear their dissatisfaction. I leaned forward slightly, my fingers resting against the table. "Good" My voice left no room for argument. "Then understand this. From now on, every business matter will be discussed with Alfred. I expect the same respect and cooperation you have shown me" Several of them nodded immediately. "Could there be a reason for this decision?" the first one who spoke before asked. I watched him, my eyes glaring suspiciously at him. "That's not for you to know" I said. My eyes scanned the room again, for traces of traitors hiding under false masks. "I'm sure we all know what happens when you betray me" I reminded. Their expressions hardened. I let out a small smile. "That's all" I pushed my chair back and stood up. Without waiting for another word, I turned and walked out of the room. Jeff was waiting outside. "Everything is arranged" he said, falling into step beside me. I gave a brief nod. "Good. I want updates on her location every two minutes" "Yes Boss" He answered and we continued toward the private exit, where the sound of a helicopter waiting outside grew louder with every step. I glanced at my watch. In five hours, I would be able to see her.Celine's POVFaye grabbed my glass and glared at me."Boss will kill me if you go back home drunk," she said.I scoffed, and pushed her hand off."Don't be uncool now," I took a mouthful of the drink. It's sweet, yet intoxicating. Just like how Dave's lips tasted.I wanted to drink more, but Faye stopped me again."You can have fun without getting drunk," she said.I sighed and tried to grab the drink away, but she beat me to it and drank it down.A little chuckle left my lips. I rested my hand on the table and my face on my palm."You know, I didn't like you at first," I blurted. "I thought you'd be another Sabrina.""That bitch," I cussed, heat rising on my face in hate as I thought of her.Faye poured herself another drink. "She really is."My eyes flashed up hearing her agree with me. A happy chuckle escaped me as I lifted my head up."You think so too? Annoyingly, Dave didn't think that."I said, my face turning blue. The moment was interrupted by Tyra, who appeared with three gu
Celine's POVI pulled at Dave's arm to stop him, but he was just too stubborn. He had insisted on walking me right to the classroom. I looked frantically around as a few students glanced in our direction, murmuring as they walked past. When we got to the classroom, he let go of my hand and turned to me. "Faye will be waiting for you. Don't go anywhere else," he said.I wanted to refuse, but I nodded. The lecturer was coming in now. I pulled away from him and hurried into class. I found Tyra and quickly sat beside her, my gaze shifting to the door, Dave was still standing there.I noticed the attention he was getting without even making an effort, and a jealous frown crept onto my face. Then I decided to do something, to show that he was already mine.I looked in his direction and blew a hard, loud kiss at him before giving a flirtatious wink. That caught everyone's attention and they all turned to me; some immediately wore an upset expression while others became jealous."Girl, you're
Celine's POVI continued to walk ahead and Faye followed behind. When I saw that she was close enough, I halted suddenly and turned to confront her."I have to go this way," Faye spoke before I could.I blinked, surprised. She didn't wait, and turned to the left and began to walk away. Was I wrong? I scrunched up my face. Did he really let me go without a guard? I should feel good, but crazily, I felt upset.Just as I stomped my feet and was about to continue, Ethan suddenly appeared. I almost jumped backward, a frown invading my expression. Before I could think to scream, the boys with him charged forward and covered my mouth. They dragged me with them and stopped at a secluded place, throwing me against the wall."We meet again," Ethan said, moving forward. My feet shifted back slowly, watching my steps and looking for a direction to escape. "Unfortunately," I muttered. He chuckled, the sound making my face scowl harder."You still owe me, Celine Sawyer," his voice turned hostile ag
Dave's POVThe moment Celine walked back inside, I turned to Faye."She doesn't seem to like you."Faye lifted her head and walked closer, standing beside Jeff."It will take time, but I will charm her soon," she replied.I nodded.Knowing how much Celine hates bodyguards, I needed a way to keep one closely by her side."Make sure she doesn't suspect anything," I added, and turned to Jeff.He handed me the report for the monthly data of our businesses in Atlantic City. The numbers were a bit disturbing, I might as well deal with that while I'm here.I still had my eyes focused on the screen when Celine walked back out.I moved to set down the tablet, glancing at her when my eyes caught what she was wearing. I stopped halfway. My eyes trailed from the curve of her shoulder down to the sway of the fabric against her waist.Heat crept up my neck and my throat felt dry, my hand tightened around the phone and I straightened. She put on a smile the second our gazes caught, a sweet, innocent
Dave's POVFuck! I really want to kiss her right now.The clothes she's wearing, I could see her body. The soft delicate skin seemed to glow the more I stared at her.I clutched my hand that rested against the dresser and tried to keep a hard expression to conceal what I was actually feeling."You can get angry at me, but never lock me out," I warned, staring in between her eyes. Her jaw tightened in anger as she tried to turn away from me again. I stopped her, yet my gaze flipped just for a second to her neck. That would be crazy, I told myself, but then I leaned down before I could stop myself and my lips crashed against her soft skin.I gave her a bite, restraining myself from actually tasting her. She seemed shocked and stiff for a moment, but she didn't stop me.That made me greedy for more. I lost control in the blink of an eye, and my grip tightened around her chin as I tilted her head a little for better access.I bit a little too hard and she let out a cry. I paused for a sec
Celine's POVBefore I could get a word out, he threw me over his shoulder. "Dave!" I yelled, punching his back. He didn't stop, nor did he let go.He took me to the car and threw me inside like I weighed nothing. I let out a grunt, just to deceive him, to make him think I was hurt, and that worked. He halted and moved closer.I ran a slap across his face immediately, breathing hard. "Stop trying to control my life," I bellowed.Dave clenched his jaw; he looked furious, but I didn't care. All I cared about was that he'd scared Max away, that he'd ruined my normal life. Now Max was going to spread rumors, and everyone would stay away from me again."What was that for?" he turned to me, jaw tightened."For scaring my boyfriend away. You have no right," I yelled at him.He moved fast and got into the car, forcing me to move in. His hands gripped the door behind me, and he glared into my eyes."Do you know your so-called boyfriend was sent to monitor you?"I paused for a second, searching
