Elijah

It seemed to take years to get where we were going. The warehouse was further out then we had thought so it ended up taking us about almost forty five minutes to get there instead of twenty. We also were hit with an usual amount of traffic on the way out of town.

“Fuck!” I slammed my hand down on the steering wheel, frustrated that now - of all times - we’d get into a traffic jam. I laid on the horn.. Frankie stuck his head out the window screaming at the cars to get out of the fucking way.

We both knew it wouldn’t help .. but we were also beyond any logical thinking at the moment.

Finally we started moving and I slung the car into gear and floored it. I passed cars left and right and we were getting honked and screamed at but I didn’t give two shits.

Once we got out of the traffic it was a straight shot and I flew down the road, hitting 120 mph at one point.

“Stop a quarter mile away..” Frankie said. “If someone is still in there we don’t want them to know we’re coming.

  • The Mafia’s Regret   Chapter 69

Emery Well fuck. That was definitely not where I thought this was going. But I kept my promise and tried my damndest not to let it get it me. He must have been wanting to ask me that for years. I can tell just by how serious he got. The boys have known about my nightmares for as long as I’d had them. We had sleepovers… even as kids. They’d woken me up on several different occasions because I’d be screaming and crying and thrashing around in my sleep. I didn’t know if I could do it though. I never allow myself to go back to that place. I see enough at night when I’m sleeping. If I start talking about it I’m afraid I will remember more details. And honestly I don’t want to. But for now I shove his request in that lock box in the back of my mind. And I tell him okay. And just to lighten the mood because he’s being way too quiet now I add:“But it doesn’t matter because no way am I passing up the chance to have your car for a week. How does it do on gravel?” I joke. He scoffed.

  • The Mafia’s Regret   Chapter 68

Emery Today was a special day … you could actually smell the day in the air. I’d always wondered about that. My only guess is that literally everyone in the neighborhood, in the entire town .. state.. country even…. everyone is cooking so the smells just waft through the air. Thanksgiving had finally arrived. I’d spent the last couple of weeks staying busy. Vincent always had plenty of paperwork for me to do. I stared at the computer so long yesterday my eyeballs felt like they were going to pop straight out of my head. When I told this to Bridge, she said ‘I was treading over into zombie lore and to stick to vampires and werewolves …’. I was a little worried about cooking my part of the dinner — just because I knew how good everyone else was. It had been a few years since I’d celebrated the holiday at Vincent’s. But I followed the directions as best I could. And my turkey cake actually turned out so cute. Hopefully, it tasted decent. I’d watched the parade that morning then go

  • The Mafia’s Regret   Chapter 67

Elijah Things had been fucking insane recently. When I had gotten the call that Emery had run off from Caleb I just about lost it. And I wanted to strangle his ass for losing her. But like my dad had said … she’d been taught by the best in the matter of sneaking. The fucking amount of times we snuck out and got into trouble growing up was ridiculous. But the amount of times we didn’t get caught .. that was even more. So I couldn’t really blame Caleb. And just like with the assholes that kidnapped her.. I understood why she wanted to face Vivian … I got it. She needed closure. I hope she had it now. But on top of every day business we now potentially .. and most likely.. had a mole in the group. And we had to find out who it was .. and soon. It was wild to me that anyone would want to turn their back on their own kind.. their own family. And why?? What would be the reason? That’s one thing that had me racking my brains. If we were a smaller group .. or even a new group and som

  • The Mafia’s Regret   Chapter 66

Emery The last couple of weeks the weather had turned frigid. Thanksgiving was right around the corner.. and I couldn’t wait to spend it with Vincent and the boys at Vincent’s big house in the country. There would be a huge meal… and many of the gang would come as well. We were sending the list around. The list would be sent to all the ‘upper ranked’ families that would be attending the dinner. It was normally the same each year .. except ever since my parents died .. they were obviously notably absent. Vincent always made the turkey.. he had a huge smoker in the backyard and he and Elijah did the meats… turkey.. ham… and ribs. Oliver and his dad would usually make the bread and potatoes while Frankie’s family made the dressing and dessert. Frankie’s mom.. who was the closest thing I had to a motherly figure anymore .. was the best cook and baker I’d ever known. Even though Vincent had chefs and a lot of the other families did too .. we always cooked our own food for holidays.

  • The Mafia’s Regret   Chapter 65

Jasper There were days when I seriously regretted my decision to help my dad with the business. I thought of my brother.. sitting in Seattle with his beautiful wife and two boys .. going to his easy job and making plenty of money… coming home after work and relaxing. Fuck I was so jealous of him sometimes. But never more than today. Today it’s taking everything in me to remain calm and not blow the fuck up on the entire world. I mean there was only so much I could take. I could tell I was teetering very close to the edge .. I was going to lose it soon. And whoever was around me when that happened? They’d be going down with me. After I cleaned up the mess .. literally and figuratively.. with Vivian and Emery’s encounter … I had to deal with my father. I’d drove Vivian to the hospital .. of course they had questions and I had to make up a story about it being an accident. Then I had to call in our doctor who we had on the payroll to come deal with everything. My dad was livid. Be

  • The Mafia’s Regret   Chapter 64

Vivian Pain. I was blinded for a moment .. I could see nothing but bright white light. When it finally subsided.. I felt an excruciating pain. What the fuck? She actually fucking shot me. This bitch actually fucking shot me!!! I looked up.. she was still holding the gun but Jasper was there. I’d seen him coming up behind her right before the gun went off. He’d pushed her arms right before she shot causing her to almost miss me. But I still got it .. just in the shoulder. But fuck.. it hurt. It hurt worse than getting my hand smashed in the wreck .. worse than the surgeries that followed.. worse than having permanent pins in it now. I looked down and saw that I was losing a lot of blood. “What the fuck!!??” Jasper was yelling. But Emery just stared at me. For the first time.. I was actually scared of her. Usually I just hated her .. but I’d never seen her like this. She was normally so.. nice .. and pleasing and agreeable. But not right now. I guess she’d been pushed to her l
