Chapter 4

Penulis: Shiyu
Mother was the first to snap out of it. She threw herself at me, screaming my name until her voice broke. "Lucia, Lucia!"

No one answered. Mother shook her head in disbelief and muttered, "No. This can't be real. Lucia has healing powers. She can even heal her own wounds!"

As if to prove her point, Mother picked up a jagged stone at her feet and dragged it across my arm. The sharp edge split my skin open. There was no blood, and the cut didn't heal.

Mother froze. "That's impossible!"

  • The Magic Lamp Took My Life, My Biased Mother Regretted It   Chapter 10

Time drifted slowly by, and my days were quiet. When the Forest Festival came around again, the forest's tailor unexpectedly brought me a gorgeous gown woven from all kinds of flowers."Lady Ashwood arranged this before she passed. She said it was a mother's apology and a mother's love, both long overdue," the tailor said.At long last, after so many years, I'd been loved just as much as my sister. My eyes stung. I felt warm inside, even as my heart ached terribly. That day, I wore a lavish gown for the first time. The Elf Prince, Florian, came over and asked me to dance. After the dance, Florian gazed at me tenderly. "Would you come back to my kingdom with me, lovely Lucia?" he asked softly.I slowly nodded. "Yes, I would."Florian and I fell in love, and I became his princess consort. That day, I brought Florian to the 1,000-year-old tree and slowly told him the story of the lamp. I told him about Father and Mother, and about Ilona. He believed me. He didn't question any of it. He ju

Having lost both daughters so suddenly, Father and Mother seemed to age decades overnight.Mother sold everything she could, and despite all her pain and illness, she went to the nearby orphanage.Everything she'd failed to give me, she gave to those sweet, lively children. It was her way of trying to make amends. But the livelier her surroundings became, the more it hurt.Eventually, Mother's body gave out. One day, while she was helping a little girl get her kite, she collapsed and couldn't get up.Mother was bedridden. Father sat by her side and sighed heavily. "Grace, this is what we deserve..."Mother nodded sadly. She didn't seem to want to get better. Still, she clung to life as if she were waiting for something.Father, meanwhile, spent every day at the ancient sacred tree where the lamp had once fallen. He faithfully watered and nourished it, pouring what little life force he had left into it. All he prayed for was another lamp to fall from its branches.Every tie binding me t

"Your sister gave up so much for you and this whole family, and this is how you repaid her! You're going to stay down here and beg Lucia for forgiveness!" Father said coldly, then kicked Ilona down into the cell.He took away Ilona's power to open the cell and sealed the door with guardian vines. No matter how desperately Ilona screamed, neither Father nor Mother looked back. The lamp was completely shattered, and everything they had was slowly slipping away.Health. Money. Power...Overnight, their grand estate fell into ruin. Withered vines wrapped around the cracked doors like a demon's claws, hungry to swallow anyone who came near. The nobles who used to be friends with my parents avoided them like the plague and stopped visiting. Somehow, someone even found out what had really happened and condemned Mother as a cruel woman who had bled her own daughter dry.The illnesses Mother had recovered from years ago returned, worse than ever, tormenting her.She grew thinner by the day unti

"We know everything you've done." Mother's voice was full of disappointment. She couldn't believe the daughter she'd always sheltered and cherished could be so twisted and cruel. Ilona had done everything she could to make her own sister look bad.Ilona was about to argue, but suddenly she clutched her face and screamed. "Ah! It hurts, it hurts so much!"Her scream was so shrill it hurt to hear.I knew the lamp's backlash had begun. If the person bound to the lamp died or the lamp was destroyed, every wish it had granted would be undone. Ilona owed her beauty to a wish.Ilona rolled on the floor in pain, clawing at her beautiful face and leaving ugly, bloody scratches."No! My face! What's happening to my face?!" Ilona howled in agony. She dragged herself to the table and grabbed a mirror. She looked the way she had before the wish, but now she'd clawed her face into a horrifying, bloody mess.Ilona smashed the mirror. "This has to be Lucia's doing! She's not really dead, is she? What

Like a god, the Genie looked down with pity at Mother as she knelt at its feet. "Lucia is dead, and the pact is broken. Everything you ever gained by using her will fade away. So I might as well let you both see the truth."The Genie spoke slowly. Then it waved a hand, and countless hazy scenes appeared before Father and Mother. The year Mother fell ill and collapsed, I was the one who stayed by her bed all night. I took care of her, held the lamp, and wished for her to get well. The year Father was in danger during his travels, I'd only just finished my punishment in the cold spring. I hadn't recovered yet, but I still begged the lamp to protect him and bring him home safe. When Ilona's mischief got her lost in the woods, I was the one who used the lamp's power to keep her safe and bring her home. All those years, they'd demanded so much from me. They had no idea how much more I'd quietly sacrificed for them. The scenes kept changing. I saw myself lying on the ground, using the last o

"Lord and Lady Ashwood, I'm deeply sorry. Lucia's life force was drained long ago. Even if she'd been saved this time, she wouldn't have had long to live." With that, Eldrin picked up his medical bag and walked out.At last, Mother seemed to remember what I'd once told her. "Wishing on the lamp always comes at a price."Her legs gave out, and she sank to the floor in front of me, grabbing my ice-cold hand.Memory after memory flashed through Mother's mind. When I used the lamp to heal Ilona's wound, I coughed up a mouthful of blood. Back then, Mother had still worried about me and stayed by my side to take care of me.When I used the lamp to give Ilona a beautiful face, I went white as a sheet. Mother was too busy hugging Ilona to care. When she noticed how pale I was, she accused me of sulking and said my gloomy face was bad luck. When I used the lamp to make the whole family rich, I passed out right in front of my parents. They threw a huge feast and raised their glasses to celebrate
