AVA

By midnight, the mansion was too quiet.

Unnaturally quiet.

I peeked through the blinds for the third time, expecting the usual silhouettes of guards pacing around the perimeter. But no one was there.

Nothing but moonlight and the trees swaying like they were whispering secrets.

The silence unnerved me. The air felt still…like it was holding its breath.

Something was wrong. Or right. I couldn’t tell.

Jatina had fallen asleep hours ago on the couch with a book still open across her chest. The soft hum of her breathing filled the room, steady and unaware.

And then it clicked.

The guards were gone. The doors weren’t locked. The cars in the garage?

Wide open.

The keys?

Still hanging from the wall, untouched.

It was like... an invitation.

Sebastian knew.

He knew what I was planning…and he didn’t stop me.

That realization hit hard. A twist in my stomach. He wasn’t just letting me go… he was stepping back entirely.

Letting me walk into the arms of the man he’d sworn to keep away from me.

Sebastian"I’ll take my leave," I said, rising to my feet after spending nearly two hours watching a movie with her after dinner.I didn’t want to go…not really. But I had to.There were too many things I needed to take care of. I couldn’t afford the comfort of just sitting here pretending like nothing was going on. There’s a murderer out there, and Dove… she’s spiraling faster than I expected. If I don’t act quickly, she’s going to do something far worse than what she’s already done.Ava walked me to the door with a smile playing on her lips. She looked lighter tonight. Maybe it was the movie. Or the wine. Or maybe…for the first time in a long time…she felt safe. With me."You’re still going to train me tomorrow, right?" she asked, leaning on the doorframe, hugging her arms close to her body. There was something about the way she asked that made my chest ache. Like she needed something to anchor her. Someone."Of course," I said, forcing a grin, but even I could hear how strained

AVA'S POV"You're not coming in with me, are you?" I asked him, wishing deeply that he would say, No, I'm coming in with you.He turned to face me, letting go of the steering wheel. "Do you want me to come in?"Fuck. He turned the tables on me.I sighed and gave him a tight smile. If I said yes, he’d know I wanted him to stay. And I did. I didn’t want to be alone tonight…not after what I just encountered. The Queen Dowager’s eyes… they still haunted me.But could I really handle his presence? His presence that made me forget the world even existed outside the one I shared with him.And if I said no… he’d leave. And I’d be alone again."If you want to," I said quickly, opening the door. I flipped the decision back to him. It was his move now. I hoped he would stay."Okay," he said just as I slammed the door shut.I heard the engine ignite. What the heck? He’s leaving?I rolled my eyes hard as I watched him slowly turn the car around. My heart sank. I didn’t know why... but I was alread

  • The Moon Goddess's Mistake: Wrong Mate At The Wrong Time   CHAPTER FORTY NINE: HER BLOOD BATH

NARRATOR’S POV "Do you have to do that?" Dante asked as he stepped inside, his voice rising with frustration.Dove didn’t flinch. She didn’t even look up. Her long fingers kept tapping the side of the wooden drum in rhythm, echoing softly through the stone cave. Her gown dragged behind her like mist, and her expression remained unreadable."What do you mean?" she asked, still focused on the sound her fingers created."You killed a man, Dove. That old man hanging on the tree? That wasn’t part of the plan," he snapped, stepping closer. She chuckled lightly, coldly. “C’mon Dante, we needed to make a move already. Sebastian is too comfortable. This will shake him. Push him.”"Push him into what?" Dante’s voice deepened, frustration burning beneath his skin. "Into a war? Into another bloodbath?”“He’ll come to his senses,” she muttered.Dante grabbed her hand, firm, stopping her fingers mid-drum. She looked up at him then, annoyed.“But by any chance,” he said slowly, searching her eyes,

Sebestian POV Staring down at my mother boiled something sharp through my veins.Anger. Fury. Maybe even shame.I clenched my fists behind my back to stop myself from reacting. To stop myself from saying something I’d regret. She stood there so proud, so cold—like the world bowed to her cruelty. It took everything in me not to explode. But what sent me over the edge wasn’t her words. It was the way she looked at Ava.That silent, poisonous stare between them.I saw it.I pretended I didn’t, but I did.It was quick, but too loud to ignore. Her eyes burned into Ava’s like a command had been passed silently between them.I didn’t like that. Not one bit.“I told you,” she said sharply, without turning to look at me. “This lady is better off dead.”She was talking about Dove, but it still made my skin crawl. With that, she turned on her heels and walked away, her robe sweeping the floor like a veil of smoke behind her.I watched her go, my jaw locked tight. Then I turned toward Ava.She s

AVA"Now I must take Dove down," I whispered to myself, the words slipping through clenched teeth as I stared at the scene before me. My fists balled so tight my knuckles turned white. I wasn’t saying it for anyone to hear. I just needed to say it. For myself. To remind myself.I need to end her.Not because she was Sebastian’s ex. Not because she had threatened me over and over again. But because this time… this time, she had crossed the line.Staring at the corpse hanging from the tree made my stomach twist violently. I covered my mouth quickly to stop myself from throwing up. But the bile still rose, thick in my throat.Blood.There was so much of it.“SEBASTIAN FREE MY POSITION” was written in big, bold letters. Written in blood.I didn’t need anyone to tell me this was Dove.Only she would be this dramatic…this cruel.I stepped forward slowly, the damp grass wet against my boots. The police had already surrounded the area with yellow tape, their murmurs cold and businesslike. One

SEBESTIAN I noticed the shift in her immediately. It was like a curtain dropped over her features the moment she checked her phone. She tried to play it off…cleared her throat, tucked it away, gave me a little smile like nothing had changed. But it had. I felt it in my chest, like static in the air right before lightning strikes.I didn’t ask.God knows I wanted to. My curiosity clawed at me, pressing questions against my teeth. But something told me it wasn’t the right time. Something in her eyes said, Don’t.So I kept quiet. The rest of the drive was almost too quiet. The kind where silence doesn't feel comfortable anymore. I pretended not to notice how she held her bag tighter or how she looked out the window like she was trying to escape something. When we reached her place, the gates opened automatically. I pulled in and parked. Got out. My heart thudded in my chest as I walked around to open the door for her. Old habits, I guess. She didn't protest this time.We stepped inside,
