Chapter 3

Author: Joy Bright
Desmond only rushed to see me 3 days after I was admitted to the hospital.

He had just walked into my ward when Benjamin punched him in his face.

I slept the other day after being comforted by Benjamin. He had asked someone to retrieve the surveillance footage from the banquet hall.

Even though the position I was standing in was dangerous, it should only cause some superficial wounds.

However, Desmond had pushed me into danger when he was trying to save Connie.

Benjamin was angered by what he saw, so he immediately wanted to confront and scold Desmond.

However, he did not expect to see Desmond’s latest social media post.

In the photo, Desmond was dressed in his engagement suit as he shared a Ferris wheel cabin with Connie.

Desmond was kneeling before her.

He was gently holding Connie’s legs as he treated her wound.

It was barely a scratch—so small you’d miss it if the photo wasn’t zoomed in.

The gentleness he showed her made my heart ache.

However, judging from the angle, Connie seemed to be the one who took the photo and posted it.

Desmond had never posted anything on social media, and he did not like to share his life online.

So it had to be Connie—trying to show me that she mattered more than I did in his heart.

"You're being so unreasonable!" Benjamin yelled at him. His voice cut through my memories.

“What do you mean I’m being unreasonable? Benjamin, I know how you feel about her. But you're just her foster brother. You should keep an appropriate distance from her!”

Desmond’s words angered me.

Even though Benjamin had always liked me, he had kept his feelings hidden. He had never confessed his love to me.

He would not cause me additional trouble.

If it were not for his high fever two years ago, I would have never found out about his feelings. While I was taking care of him, I overheard his mumbles.

He had protected me like a true older brother all these years. He had never made any inappropriate advances.

After hearing what Desmond had accused Benjamin, I no longer wanted to turn a blind eye.

I immediately understood what Benjamin was referring to the other day.

He would want to use the Lloyd family’s power to protect my happiness.

“Eunice, it’s only been three days since I last saw you. Why are you hurting me like this?”

I immediately laughed at his pitiful expression.

He really thought I was hurting him.

What about my child? What about my injured legs?

“Let me take a look…”

Desmond wanted to step forward and examine my legs, but I forcefully pushed him away.

Then, I found out that after I left that day, Connie’s child was affected. From then on, Desmond’s mother had instructed her to stay in the hospital to rest. The engagement ceremony that she was looking forward to was cancelled, and no one brought it up again. To avoid her, Desmond buried himself in work and surgery. Initially, he thought that he would be able to avoid Connie. Instead, the long hours had caused him to hallucinate, and it had caused him to commit medical malpractice. In just six months, the highly regarded surgeon was despised by many. His skills were doubted. He did not dare to step out of his house due to the pressure he was facing. His mother saw that Connie had ruined her son, so she went to the hospital every day to torture Connie. Connie grew resentful. She blamed it all on me. After hearing what she said, I could not help laughing. “You’re the one who wanted him, and you’re the one who’s pregnant. Why are you blaming me for that? Are you in

“Desmond, I’ve helped you meet with Eunice. Now, shouldn’t we go for our engagement ceremony?” Even though Connie said that in a gentle tone, it was hard to ignore the smugness in her eyes. Desmond, who was defeated, suddenly stood up and slapped Connie. “Wretched woman! If you didn’t keep telling me that Eunice likes Benjamin, I wouldn’t have slept with you to try and make her jealous. Now, you want to marry me? Impossible…”He then kicked Connie, who was lying on the ground. Connie was dodging his attack as she threatened him. “I’m pregnant with your child. You can ignore the child and not get married to me, but can you accept the punishment Benjamin has in store for your family?” Benjamin was behind this. After a brief shock, I stared at them curiously. It was interesting to see them turning on each other. Desmond paused, and I started to retreat to the house. I finally got rid of him. If I gave him another chance to pester me, I would be insane.I had just wal

I froze. Had she already guessed that I was the one who leaked their conversation? Was she coming to fight with me?I was imagining all the possibilities when Benjamin hit my behind. Heat returned to my cheeks and spread to the rest of my body. “If you don’t want to see her, I’ll ask her to leave.” Benjamin looked firm. I did not know if he was teasing me a bit earlier. I walked out with my crutches in confusion to meet Connie. Her makeup did not look as good as it was before, and her eyes were tired. Was she unhappy with the love she had snatched from me? Just when I was about to confront her, she brought me to a garden. I saw Desmond dressed in the same suit he wore during our engagement ceremony. He was holding a bouquet of red roses and a document of White Corporation’s property as he walked toward me. “Eunice, I know you won’t believe anything I say, but you must know that I love you.“It’s not my intention to be with Connie. I really thought of her as a young

From that day onwards, Desmond no longer appeared before me. He would give me eight missed calls, voice messages, and text messages at the same time every day. Initially, he was apologizing and explaining himself. After that, he said that I was heartless. Then, he started begging. I ignored all of this, and I did not reply to him. Benjamin also personally called off the engagement on my behalf after I was discharged. However, it was not as smooth. Desmond stood on the balcony and threatened Benjamin that if the engagement was called off, he would jump off the building. His parents saw how stubborn their son was, so they were unwilling to call the engagement off. It was not until Benjamin gave them a piece of land that White Corporation wanted that Desmond’s father no longer cared if he committed suicide. Desmond saw that no one was giving in to him, so he climbed down from the balcony under Connie’s persuasion. I was angry when Benjamin told me what had happened.

“You were pregnant and you got rid of the baby?”I only felt sadness when I heard Desmond’s surprised tone. I was already feeling unwell before our engagement ceremony, and I was having morning sickness. He did not even realize that even though he was a doctor. I did not even throw away the pregnancy test kit I had used. I wanted to surprise him. From his reaction, it seemed like he had not realized those changes at all. That was no surprise. He had to stay in such a small apartment with me, even though he was rich. Of course, he had not paid attention to anything. However, he was not the only person who was upset. On the night of my birthday, I was feverish after dinner. Desire was burning in me.Coincidentally, Desmond appeared before me with flushed cheeks and professed his love for me. The next morning, when I woke up, I realized that I was in a hotel room. Of course, I knew someone had drugged me. However, I ended up with my boyfriend, so I did not look

He was not as upset as I thought he would be. Instead, he was smiling a little. What was going on?Why did he not yell at me and leave? At the same time, I heard a harsh sound as the chair scraped against the floor. I immediately shut my eyes. It was over for me. No one would protect me anymore. The next second, I felt a warm, large hand on my head. “Be good and just focus on getting better. We can discuss the rest when you’re discharged.” He must be disappointed in me. It seemed as though I was trying to take advantage of him. Instead, his words made my heart speed up. “I have waited for ten years. I don’t mind waiting for you for a bit longer as long as I still have a chance.” We smiled as we met each other’s eyes. The world had become colorful again for me. After he received my answer, he no longer had any concerns about taking care of me. Unexpectedly, Desmond came to see me again the next day. After Benjamin had taken care of my needs, he went out f
