LOGINChapter 4
Marcus Ledesma… Naomi came to her senses when the bouquet of flowers she was arranging suddenly fell apart. She didn’t know which to pick up first—the scattered flowers or the newspaper that jolted her entire system. The pounding of her chest was something she couldn’t explain. She was shaking inside. The man in the photo was said to be Marcus Ledesma. But her former boyfriend was Marco Ledesma—who looked exactly like this man, now engaged to another woman. In the end, after taking a deep breath, she decided to pick up the newspaper with her trembling hand. Naomi lifted the paper and studied the smiling man carefully. He was wearing a tuxedo. His hair was longer than usual, but he was still undeniably Marco Ledesma—the father of her child! The Billionaire Marcus Ledesma is… She felt herself shrink in disbelief. Did the man win the lottery, become a billionaire, then fake his death just to leave her for good? She clenched her teeth. Most likely. Maybe leaving her had been his plan all along. Maybe even back when he was still in the province, he had already won the lottery and planned to fake his death. Naomi’s anger toward the man intensified, especially when she looked at the face of the woman who was almost clinging to Marco. Marco changed his name from Marco to Marcus after winning the jackpot. Money really can change everything. “Oh my God!” Aliyah exclaimed from behind her, making Naomi quickly turn around and lower the newspaper. Her friend was staring at the bouquet. “What happened to the world?” Aliyah added. “I–It fell,” Naomi said as an excuse, swallowing hard. She didn’t know whether to tell her friend what she had seen or just keep it to herself. “It fell?” Aliyah asked with raised eyebrows. “You’re not this clumsy, bestie,” she said, her eyes drifting to the newspaper near Naomi’s waist. “What’s that?” “Newspaper!” “I know, right.” Suddenly, Aliyah snatched the newspaper, leaving Naomi no chance to stop her. Aliyah looked at what was printed and her eyes widened as well. “My God! Is this for real? I–Isn’t this Marco?” she asked in shock, pointing at the man in the photo. “Oh no, it says Marcus. Marco… Ma-Marcus? But they’re both Ledesma. I’m getting dizzy, bestie.” Aliyah held her head. She knew Marco very well too, since they used to take him along whenever his mom—who worked at the Water District—couldn’t pick him up. “Is this reincarnation, bestie?” “There’s no reincarnation,” Naomi finally answered, while Aliyah continued to stare at the man. “He’s getting married. We’ll steal him back!” Aliyah said firmly, as if it were the easiest thing in the world to say they would take Marco back. Naomi took a deep breath and lifted her chin. “That’s the life he chose, bestie. There’s nothing to steal. I truly believed he was dead—turns out, he’s with another woman,” she said, forcing herself to hide the pain she felt, though her heart felt like it was being crushed—for her child. It was a good thing her parents were well-off, had jobs and salaries. Otherwise, they would have been poorer than Ileana’s chicken. “Please fix the flowers, bestie. I’ve lost my appetite.” She marched away. Tears immediately welled up in her eyes, so she went straight to the powder room. She locked the door and sank onto the edge of the sink, her reflection blurred by the sudden tears. Her hands trembled as she traced the outline of her own face, as if searching for a version of herself that hadn’t been broken by Marco’s disappearance. Every memory—his smile, the way he tucked Ileana’s hair behind her ear, the small promises he had made—came crashing back like waves she couldn’t hold back. Marco is damn alive and kicking. What is this feeling—like being stabbed in the heart—at the realization that he was cradled in another woman’s arms while she was alone, suffering from pregnancy to childbirth? She stayed up alone taking care of their child. It had been such a long time. She thought she had already accepted Marco’s loss, but now, like a ghost that had suddenly gained a body, the pain was far worse than before. Her lips trembled as she whispered to herself, “Why now… why like this?” The newspaper lay folded beside her, mocking her with the image of his happiness she was no longer a part of. Her fingers clenched into fists, nails biting into her palms, as a burning mix of sorrow, anger, and helplessness surged through her. She had survived this long, raised Ileana alone, and yet seeing him again—so alive, so untouchable—shook the very foundation of her heart.Chapter 6Zent’s eyes followed Solana as she stepped out of the house wearing her uniform. He was leaning against his car, casually scrolling on his smartphone. The sunlight reflected slightly on his face, highlighting the small nose piercing that made him look bold and attractive. The earrings on his ears suited his sharp features. He wore a black hat that added to his confident style. With slow movements, he opened the door of the limousine, acting as if he had no urgency in the world.“Be careful, Solana,” Lazaro said as he walked out behind her.“Yes, Grandpa. Please do not worry.”She smiled at him and moved toward the car. She entered without looking at Zent. She did not want to give him the satisfaction of seeing her reaction. The night before, he had slept on the sofa. He had always been against her education. He believed she would depend on him forever. He probably wanted her to remain silent and simple. But Lazaro supported her dream of continuing her studies, and Zent could
Chapter 5Solana kept talking while leaning against the hospital bed’s headboard. Her mother sat beside her, still wearing house clothes and carrying the smell of fried garlic. Worry was written all over Nita’s face as they both listened carefully to the doctor.“Thank you, Dr. Rojas,” Lazaro said politely to the doctor, who was also Solana’s obstetrician.“You’re welcome, Señor Lazaro,” Dr. Rojas replied. “Zent must be extra loving and caring because his wife’s pregnancy is quite delicate. I don’t see any serious problem aside from her blood pressure dropping. Vitamins should help with that. Some pregnancies are much more difficult and require complete bed rest. Just don’t hesitate to bring her to the hospital if necessary.”“Yes, Doctor. Zent will take care of it,” Lazaro answered with confidence. “Thank you.”Lazaro gave Zent a look, and the younger man immediately understood. The two of them escorted the doctor outside the room.As soon as they were gone, Nita turned to her daught
Solana suddenly screamed, “Hey, you fat horse!” when someone from beside the plants suddenly grabbed her arm. She was pulled forward and bumped into the large body of her husband.“Do you really think you can escape from me, Solana? You’re ruining me.”“Ruining? You are the one ruining yourself, not me. If you didn’t have a mistress, then I would have nothing to tell Grandpa. But the problem is, you do. So sorry, because I am honest to the moon and back.”Zent closed his eyes for a moment, obviously trying very hard to control his anger. If she were just a tiny ant, he probably would have crushed her already.“We are only married on paper.”“Hmm,” she nodded. “You should have told yourself that last night when you touched me.”He had no answer to that, so she pushed him aside and started walking toward the house. She was already tired and exhausted. All she wanted was to lie down on the bed and sleep. She did not care about her husband and his performance as the best actor in the worl
Chapter 4Solana peeked at the door after hearing Zent’s voice the next morning while he was talking to someone on his smartphone. So he still had not left? What a miracle. His world usually revolved around his manager, the same woman who had practically thrown the bitter truth in her face—that something was going on between them whenever they were together. But now, that woman was already Zent’s mistress because he was married to her.“What can I do? Grandpa wants this,” Zent answered irritably to the person on the other line. “I’ll see what I can do. I’ll just call you—just wait, okay? This is also for your future. If I keep refusing his will, I won’t inherit anything. Everything will go to my child with… Solana. Do you understand?”She took a deep breath but stayed hidden by the door frame.“Yes, you heard me right, Rachel. Grandpa has already decided, so we have no other choice but to get along properly. And please do not make any scene. If you were handling my Hollywood career be
Solana blinked when Zent suddenly dropped himself onto the bed as soon as he entered the room. They had just moved into the big house earlier that day.Señor Lazaro had never looked happier when she and Zent arrived together, riding in the handsome car of her actor husband, whom he liked to call Raptor. That same day they met at Conrad was also the day they found out that Zent was the man who had pulled her inside the hotel. She later learned that he had been under the influence of drugs at that time. Apparently, he had gone to audition for a sexy movie that day, but he did not make it because another male artist, Jaiho, had already been chosen. Jaiho was also Zent’s rival in the shining world of show business. They were always competing against each other. In simple words, she finally got the evidence she needed after telling Señor Lazaro everything that had happened. What she did not know was that Lazaro had also been there that day to secretly watch over his only grandson. He had h
After getting dressed, Solana didn’t wait for her husband to finish preparing. It was honestly surprising that his manager-slash-personal assistant wasn’t around today. Before, even something as simple as putting on his clothes, someone else would already be there to help him, especially back during their wedding day.“Where do you want to eat, apo?” Lazaro asked with a warm smile as she approached him.Solana hugged him, even though she felt a bit awkward. Not because she disliked him, but because he was extremely rich, and she wasn’t used to people like him. Still, there was something comforting about him. He reminded her of her late grandparents, and that feeling made it hard for her to keep her distance.Despite all the rumors that Lazaro was strict and difficult, she didn’t see that side of him. To her, he seemed kind. In fact, she felt like Zent, her husband had a worse attitude than the old man.“You can decide, lolo. As long as I get to eat. I’m really hungry,” she said with a
