Maya's POV

As Shane walked back into the dining room with Lily tucked against his side, I noticed Isla had come back in before them.

And once again...

There it was.

That phony baloney ass smile.

The kind of smile people wear because they know everyone is watching.

I knew she wasn't happy.

Hell, I wouldn't expect her to be happy.

I was pregnant with Shane's baby.

No matter how civil everyone was trying to be, that wasn't exactly easy news for an ex-wife to swallow.

But I also knew something else

Keisha's POVAs I walked back into the house, I found my best friend pacing the floor, absolutely fuming.Lord...Today was already turning into one hell of a day.My mom walked over, folding her arms."What happened now?"I rubbed my forehead and sighed."Mom... you need to talk to your daughter."She frowned."What happened?""I don't know if she's extra hormonal, if she's mad at Michael, or if she's just trying to burn her whole life down, but whatever this is..." I shook my head. "Today has been horrible."Mom let out a long breath and pulled me into the living room while Sienna continued pacing like she was ready to commit a felony. From down the hallway I could hear the kids banging away on toy instruments.I smiled."Well... nobody's crying, so I guess they're fine."Mom sat beside me on the couch.Just as she exhaled...Ding dong.Grandma Mabel moved toward the front door with surprising speed for a woman her age.She opened it.I couldn't help but grin."Maya!"Maya smiled an

  • The Price of Peace: Book 3 In The No More Regrets Series   Barbecue Day Part 2

Kole's POVBy the time we pulled up to Knox's house, I was more than ready to get this barbecue started.Knox had already texted me that he'd seasoned and prepped all the meat. All we had to do was fire up the grills and cook.Easy enough.I climbed out of the Tahoe while rounding up what felt like every kid under the age of ten.Robin eased herself out next, rubbing her growing stomach while Travis grabbed the diaper bags.Robin's eyes practically bugged out of her head."Damn... this is your brother's house? I laughed."Yep."She looked from the stone exterior to the massive windows."You are not about to tell me this man paid full price.""Oh, absolutely not."Travis whistled."Seven-fifty K?"I shook my head, "Under a hundred K.""You mean six-fifty K?"I grinned."No. I mean under one hundred grand."His mouth dropped open."...Shut the hell up.""I swear.""Damn.""He bought it off the foreclosure website. It needed work, but he got one hell of a deal."Travis shook his head."

  • The Price of Peace: Book 3 In The No More Regrets Series   Barbecue Day Part 1

Keisha's POVSunday morning 10 A.M.We were supposed to be at Knox and Sienna's house around ten, maybe ten-thirty, because apparently being family meant showing up early enough to help cook, decorate, and set everything up.Today's event had somehow evolved into a barbecue, an extended wedding reception, a family reunion, and a "let everybody meet everybody" party all rolled into one.Honestly...I had stopped trying to keep track. My brother and sister were both in Chicago for the first time.Mama had been here several times already, especially after I had baby Mabel, but this was the first time everyone would be together with Kole's side of the family.Which meant...Chaos.Absolute chaos. The kids, surprisingly, weren't the problem. Every last one of them was dressed, fed, and ready. The adults?Lord, give me strength.Especially my sister. Misha was wearing every last nerve I had.Between flirting with my husband, openly checking out other men, and doing all of this while her own

Shane's POVThe silence that followed my announcement only lasted a few seconds before Maya's mother stood so quickly her chair nearly tipped over. She reached for Maya's hands and immediately began speaking in rapid Spanish."Oh, mi amor, estás embarazada otra vez. Estoy tan feliz por ti; cuando el doctor dijo que no podrías tener hijos... y este ya es nuestro segundo milagro."Maya nodded through her tears."Sí... sí..."Before I knew it, the two of them were wrapped in each other's arms, both crying.I looked between them completely lost."I... uh..." I scratched the back of my neck. "I have absolutely no idea what y'all just said."Maya laughed through her tears before wiping at her eyes."My mom said she's so happy for me. She reminded me that when the doctors told me it'd be very difficult for me to have children, she never stopped praying. Now she's saying this is our second miracle."I smiled."Well...""I'd have to agree with her."I leaned over and kissed the side of Maya's

Maya's POVIf somebody had told me this morning that by the end of the day I'd find out I was almost five months pregnant, be teased relentlessly by my best friends, discover Sienna was carrying twins, and then end up meeting my boyfriend's entire family, including his technically still-not-divorced wife's family, I would've laughed in their face.Yet...Here I was. After Shane and I grabbed lunch, we headed back to my house so I could get ready. While I disappeared upstairs, I could hear Shane downstairs on the phone with Isla.Apparently he'd ordered enough food to feed a small army."No," he laughed into the phone. "I didn't order Olive Garden this time. I got Chicken Broasters."I smiled to myself as I walked into my bedroom.Well...If I was about to meet his parents, I needed to look halfway decent.I opened my closet before pulling out one of my favorite shirt dresses. It was white with thin blue stripes and looked almost like an oversized button-down. I left a few buttons undo
