The next day dawned with a restlessness that did not leave me alone. I had managed to convince Naomi to find me. But with her, there was also fear. Fear of saying the wrong things. See in her eyes the same revulsion that I saw in the triplets. Fear of losing.

I spent the whole day in the cafeteria, nervous, checking the clock every half hour. At five o'clock in the afternoon, I closed earlier. I wanted nothing to interfere with this meeting, so that nothing was mixed between us but the truth I needed to say.

When Naomi came in, my chest seemed to explode. She wore a light, simple coat, her loose hair falling down her shoulders. "Hi," she said, her voice calm.

"Hi," I replied, trying to contain the nervousness. "Thank you for coming."

She sat down at one of the tables in the corner, away from the street movement. I prepared two cappuccinos and took them to the location. When I put the cup before her, our eyes met. I saw hesitation but also curiosity. She wanted to hear.

The world disappeared when her lips found mine. There was no more street, no more city, no more weight of whispers, or shadow of Casper’s threat. There was only Naomi. And me. And the fire that was lit when our mouths touched. The kiss began urgently, as if we were trying to pull from each other all the accumulated fear. Her breath mixed with mine, hot, fast, and broken. I held her face with both hands, as if I needed to be sure that she was real, that she was still there and had not run away like all the others. She did not back down. On the contrary, she came closer, her hands sliding across my chest, grabbing her shirt as if she was afraid I would move away. When I pulled her closer, I felt her body glued to mine, and the beast inside me roared in silence. Not of anger, but of need. For a moment, I feared that she might feel this trembling in me and move away. But Naomi just gave more, her fingers rising up my neck, pulling me hard.I raised her, without thinking, without calculati

The silence after her words was more painful than any wound I’ve ever carried. "Maybe I can’t even stand by your side."I looked at Naomi, looking for any indication that it was an exaggeration, that she didn’t mean what she said. But there was no hesitation in her face, only fear. Fear of me."You can’t say that…" My voice came out lower than I wanted. "You can’t put me in the same place as all of them.""I’m not putting you anywhere, Lancelot." She crossed her arms, her body stiff as if she needed to protect herself from something invisible. "You’re digging that space yourself. I saw it. I felt it."I took a step closer, but she didn’t back down. It hurt even more. If I were scared enough to run away, I would know what to do. But she stood there, firm and divided, and this indecision killed me."I fought it," I repeated, not recognizing my own voice. "I swear I fought it. Every second I spent was for you. Not to get lost.""And yet you’re lost." Her look pierced mine. "What if next

The silence that remained after Casper left was worse than any scream. The door had slammed hard, but what really hurt was his sentence still echoing inside my head. "If the city doesn’t swallow you, I will." I stood behind the counter, fisted, trying to calm my breath. The smell of coffee mixed with the cold sweat that ran down my neck. I knew he meant it. If he decided to destroy me, I would find a way to survive. And the worst part is that part of me believed he would have justification for it. I spent the rest of the morning serving customers automatically. Few looked into my eyes. Some came, asked for coffee, and left too fast, as if they were about to witness something dangerous at any moment. Others spent too much time watching my every gesture, as if they expected to see the claws arise again. I tried to ignore it, but every whisper, every look was a reminder: the city was changing. I was changing. Naomi didn’t show up. Part of me expected to see her, perhaps with that exp

The smell of coffee was still impregnated in the cafeteria, mixed with the bitterness of nervousness that had not left me since the night before. Naomi had gone away in silence, and I was alone with the echo of the drunken screams, the look of the neighborhood, and the cursed memory of claws ripping the surface of my skin. I knew it would spread. There was no holding back. And it didn’t take long. The next morning, when I opened the doors, the world had already changed. The customers who came in became more silent; it looked too long for someone who was just asking for an express. Deep down, I heard the whispers. One or the other even stared at my arm, as if they expected to see claw marks still there. I pretended not to see, but inside it was different. I didn’t have to wait long for the bomb to get where I feared most. It was almost lunchtime when I heard the door open loudly. The bell rang, and I knew before I looked up. Casper. The smell of him struck me with the weight of his

The silence that remained after the drunk ran away was suffocating. I was still on my knees, my body throbbing, trying to keep my breath under control. Naomi remained close but did not pull back. Her eyes pierced me, full of conflict."You need to get up," she said finally, in a low voice. "Now."I shook my head without understanding. "Naomi, I-""Get up, Lancelot!" She approached, pulling my arm firmly. "There are people out there."Only then did I realize. The noise of footsteps, murmurs. I turned my face to the door and saw two silhouettes standing on the sidewalk. One of them was with her cell phone raised. Recording. The ice ran through my spine."Damn." I forced the legs to be firm. The body was still heavy, as if the beast inside me insisted on staying. "They saw.""So stop the show," Naomi replied, hard. She stepped forward, closing the door tightly and turning the key. Her breathing was rapid, but not trembling. "You can’t lose control like that.""He touched you." My voice c
