AYLA

They stepped out of the trees like phantoms, lean, silent, fast. Their eyes glowed faintly in the dim forest light, and I counted at least ten before I stopped trying. More were hiding in the dark, I could feel it.

Damon immediately took position in front of us, one hand gripping the dagger at his waist. “Weapons out. Don’t shift unless you have to.”

Ivy pressed close to me, breath shallow. Silvia pulled her blade, her fingers steady despite the growing threat. Riven didn’t move at all, he was already coiled like a spring, eyes locked on the shadows ahead.

“Why are they here?” I whispered.

No one answered. The rogues moved in tighter, their leader finally revealing himself. He was taller than the others, his face scarred and his hair matted with dirt. His voice, when he spoke, was low and gravelly.

“You shouldn’t have come back, Stormbringer.”

My heart dropped.

He knew who I was.

“How do you know my name?” I asked, stepping forward.

He bared yellowed teeth in a smile. “We remembe

AYLA“Mother, what have you done?!” Slade's voice thundered across the tarmac.“What have I done?” Queen Lyra exclaimed innocently. “I did, and I'm still doing what's best for our kingdom.”“No, mother, you haven't. You just jeopardized everything I have worked for,” he said. “What does that mean?” She asked. “I haven't done anything wrong but secure our future,” she then turned to me, giving me a nasty look. “Our Lycan future.”I heard Berah scoffed behind, and I smiled. But of course Queen Lyra doesn't want her son to marry a wolf. Lycans are known for their pride and inferiority complex. They think they are superior to everyone but themselves.“What does our Lycan future mean?” Slade asked, oblivious to his mother's plans, and her thoughts of me and my kind. But I don't think that's the only reason. I think she is scared of losing her position, her title as Queen. So she gets someone, a person who will act as a puppet Queen, and she will still retain the position for as long as

AYLA“Mama, how much longer?” Amora asked me for the tenth time. The next day after Riven was about to find out which Kingdom had allied itself with the banished son, we started our journey about to Mercia. The base was evacuated and everyone was placed in either airplanes or ships. No road journey. For fear of retaliation from the banished son.Right now the senior officials are in one of the most secured airplanes, mainly because King Slade is also on this journey with us, and we have been in the air for close to two hours. “Pretty soon, honey,” I answered my daughter. Even though it will take us another hour to arrive at Mercia airspace.Ever since Amora showed signs of magical abilities I have kept her really close to me. I'm afraid that now her powers are coming out in full force she is going to get overwhelmed, and do something with significant damage. And then there is the elephant in the room. The reason I decided on a different cabin from Slade's. I needed time to think,

SLADE“Yes,” I said softly as I turned away from her“Each one of them death was like a crush to my soul,” the memories of my first Beta's death flooded my mind, and I gasped. I had to hold on to a chair to give me stamina. “That battle was brutal, each side had the same amount of force to crush each other. We were matched, sword by sword, spear by spear. It was like it was never going to end,” I said to her.“Slade, you don't have to talk about it if you don't want to,” she said, and I turned to her with a smile.“It's okay, I want to talk about it,” I said to her.“Like I said we were matched,” I continued. “But eventually we outsmarted them, and over rode them,” I said to her. “But there was something I did not see coming,” I said and Ayla walked towards me.“What was that?” She asked.“Their plan was to kill me all along,” I whispered. “They knew we would outsmart them, so those that escaped our capture took over the plan of killing me.”“And per protocol when traveling by road

SLADEThe thought of one of my allies plotting with my so-called banished brother made my skin crawl.I have done everything to make sure I have the loyalty of my allies. Yes, I have ruled with an iron fist, but nothing to drive anyone away to someone killing people just to get himself on my throne.“Slade, knowing someone is guilty of treason is different from the person actually guilty,” I heard Ayla's voice, and I rubbed my fingers together.“Knowing is all I have, right now, Ayla. And I have to work with what I have,” I said to him, and she sighed.“Not necessarily,” I heard Riven's voice. “I just got a report from the battlefield, the vehicles that were used by the hostile, they are Mercian designs,” he said, and my heart dropped to my side.“There's the proof you are looking for, your grace,” I said to Ayla with a hostile tone. And everyone looked at me, taken aback. She sighs, and faces Riven. I probably deserve that, “how do we link it to the traitor?” She asked.“It will be h

AYLA“Tara,” I hugged my friend, and headmaid. I haven't seen her since I shoved all of them into the base, and fought on the battlefield.“I'm so glad you are safe, your grace,” she said, hugging me tightly. “I'm so sorry about all of this,” I said softly to her.“About what?” She asked as we disengaged from the hug. “For dragging you from your Kingdom, and bringing you into the middle of a war to care for my child,” I said, looking at Amora. Who had a shining light in her eyes.“My place is with you, Luna Ayla,” she said, calling me with my new title. “Besides, war was all inevitable.”“Haa,” I cried in pain as I felt a painful sting on my arm. Tara quickly took Amora from my arms, and the soldiers around almost rushed to me.“I'm okay, I'm okay,” I declared. “It's just an injury sustained in battle.”“I need to take a look at it, your grace,” the healer with me said, referring to my bandaged hand.“Get Captain Silvia, and Lady Maria,” I heard Berah order a guard.“No,” I stopped

  • The Promised Luna   Chapter 145!Both Stormbringer and Mercia Fall at Your Feet!

AYLAThe shawl that covered my upper body moved with the wind as I watched the bodies of our fallen soldiers burn.Watching the body of Commander Finnan. A man I had known only for a short time but gave his life to protect me.I stood facing the fire, feeling the heat on my face, and skin. I wanted it to hurt me, to feel the pain Commander Finnan felt when he took that spear for me.But that wouldn't honor him. It won't honor his life or the sacrifice he made so that I'll live. His death would live in me, a wound I would carry to my grave, but I would turn it into strength.I could feel Slade's concern for me. He is not around me, but I could feel that he is worried.Worried that I would fall apart or break down. But I wasn’t chosen as the Promised Luna to fall after one battle.A lot of good men will still give their lives for me. I have to be ready to accept that, and live with it. Because the only way I can honor their memory is by being the powerful and just Luna like it has been
