LOGINLucien’s POV
I was dumbfounded at the sight before me. It seemed almost like a dream but I knew it certainly was not a dream. I was awake and conscious to know that this was real. Aimee was not only levitating but she was glowing like the moon.I wanted to believe that she was doing this on purpose but then her eyes were closed. In fact, she was fast asleep. She certainly did not know what was happening to her body. What exactly was going on and who was this mate of mine? A lot of questions came into mind but I was finding it difficult to get any substantive answers. Before I could get into the negative, I remembered something vital. “The white wolf is not an ordinary wolf. She glows like the moon in the night and her powers are unmeasurable” I remembered the prophecy many years agoFor years I had gone in search of this white wolf to save my people. The white wolf was the only vantage point to destroy the dark forces and stop them from causing any form of trouble. Most especially, one that involves destroying Nexus which I was a protector of.It was of utmost importance, the oracle had told me, that I found the wolf before it was too late. It was a tough journey. Moved into various places just to find this wolf. I was given a detailed description of what the wolf looked like and how it behaved but no one told me it would be in a human form and how to identify it.It was a lot for me to do but I knew I had to do it. The pack relied on me to save them. They were my sole responsibility. Ever since the death of my parents by dark forces, I have developed PTSD but that does not stop me from trying to find a way, trying to find a possible end to all of these terrible things that will happen to our world because as they had prophesied. It was going to happen and we must be prepared with the White wolf.I stared at the glowing and levitating human in front of me and I wondered if she was truly the white wolf that they prophesied about. There was no way this was some kind of joke because it was happening in front of me and no one was relating the news to me.I took a step forward to have a better look at her. When I got close, I moved my hand to touch her but stopped halfway as she dropped back on the bed and the only thing she did was move to the other side as though nothing just happened.I would not blame her because she does not know about it just yet. I adjusted the covers and made sure she was covered properly before walking out the door. Shadow growled at me for leaving but I had to leave her to have her rest.By tomorrow, I will speak to her about it. But then if it were true it would change a lot of things about my decision to reject her. Now, it all depends on whether she would not reject me because of how I had been behaving lately.A maid was about to walk past me when I stopped her. “Get me Alec” I instructedShe bowed and hurriedly left to do as I'd asked. In my room, it only took a minute of me stepping in for Alec to appear in front of me. “You sent for me,” Alec said giving his in-duty stanceAlec was my best friend since I knew how to walk and I was ecstatic to know he was my beta when I emerged as the alpha of the pack. Not only was he wise but he was a nice man. What made it better was the fact that he was Reine’s mate. He was the best person I could think of to take care of her.I trust him with my life and I also knew he would lay down his life for me. “Sit,” I told him and he did so immediately already attentive to what I had to say“I think Aimee is the white wolf” I informed him“Did she display any signs?” he asked me and I nodded before narrating what I had seen “She is the white wolf then” he said“But I do not think she is aware of it”Alec nodded. “And I do not think she can control her powers too,” he told me which I completely agreed withIf she was aware and was able to control her powers, then she would not be levitating while asleep. Who knows what could have happened if she moved away from the bed and from that height, she could most definitely hurt herself. That thought upset both me and Shadow.“But that’s not why I called you. I need you to do something. You need to check if she is aware or not” I told him“You want me to touch her?” he askedI knew what he was implying. We wolves are very possessive with our mates. Even though our mate was touched lightly by any man we get agitated about it. “I permit you to touch her to get the information I need,” I saidMorning came and we all stepped into the dining table to have a meal. Aimee stepped down to join us and she stared at me surprised for some time before Reine called her to take a seat beside her. I only glanced at her once as she sat down before concentrating on my food.I noticed her staring at me but I chose to ignore it. “Mi lady, you look pale. Are you okay?” Alec asked, placing a hand on her wristShadow growled a little bit I knew he was only doing what I had asked him too“No, I'm fine. Just didn't sleep comfortably” she told him“I tell the maids to get you a better bed” Alec told her taking back his handFrom what we both know, the reason she felt that way was because of what happened the previous night. It was either she knew what happened and did not want to tell us or she didn't know at all.Alec then turned to me, shaking his head. Which meant she was not aware of her abilities. I was about to speak but then a guard ran into the room. “Alpha, there is trouble. Invasion by the dark forces”I sprung up to my feet and so did Alec and Isaac who joined me immediately towards the door. I turned to Reine. “Keep her out of this” I instructed and Reine nodded before I stepped out of the houseI instructed that more warriors be sent to protect the people. The scene that met me was gruesome. Most of the pack members were dead and they left a trail with them. We followed. It was dangerous but if we figured out where they were headed then we could find a way to eliminate them.I was calm on the outside but the scene only made me remember the day and the way my parents were killed. After about thirty minutes of our eyes down, watching the trail of blood and dead bodies, we finally figured that we had walked back to…“The Castle” Isaac completed my thoughtsInstinctively, Alec rushed into the building calling out to Reine. Once I got in, I spoke to the first warrior I saw. “Search this castle with the rest” I commanded before joining Alec and IsaacReine rushed down the stairs.“Is all okay?” she asked and Alec without saying a word immediately hugged her then placed a kiss on her foreheadBut if Reine was here then, “Where is Aimee?” I asked“Up in her room. I left her when I heard Alec call me” Reine explainedI was about to relax when Reine's eyes went to the back, she shook a little and thanks to Alec who held her still she did not fall. “What’s wrong?” Alec asked but she did not reply instead she glanced at all of us before running up the stairsWe joined her in Aimee's room. It was empty. “Where is she?” I asked, barely keeping Shadow in checkHe was unsettled and it made me unsettled. “No, no, no,” Reine said, looking around“What did you see, Reine? And where is my mate?” I yelled“They took her”The words echoed in my eyes. I tried to blink them away. “Who took her away?” I heard Alec asked“The dark forces” came Reine's replyShadow growled loudly. I did not want to believe it. The boldness and composure I had for so long was gone. I knew what was happening to me but I could not stop it. My heart pounded in my chest and even though I wanted to stop Shadow, he overtook and I transformed.Lucien's POVIt was almost midnight and there was still no sign of Alec. I did not move from her bedside even for a minute, but Brea worked tirelessly. Replacing the cold cloth on Aimee’s brow, checking her pulse and adjusting the herbal elixir she’d mixed to slow the progress of the poison. Each time she finished examining her she looked at me in the same careful way and I knew what she meant. We were just buying more time, that's all.Aimee drifted in and out of consciousness. When she was awake she murmured things I could not make any sense of. One time she said Reine's name, then she called my name and reached out and I took her hand and held it before she settled again.Shadow had gone entirely still inside me which was even more frightening than his usual restlessness. I kept pressing against him to remind both him and myself that nothing had happened yet. She was still here. Her chest still rose and fell. Her hand was still warm in mine. She was still here.Isaac appeared in t
Aimee's POVThe castle was recovering slowly, and pack members were starting to return to their homes. The healers stayed working through the night on the injured warriors, while the maids scrubbed every room the oracle had cleared, and by the second morning back, it almost smelled like the old days again.Almost.I wanted to hold onto the warmth of what we had won, to stay present in it, but Reine's absence was like a bad omen I couldn't just ignore. The third morning back in Moonstone, I took a walk on the castle grounds and found myself in the garden. It was the only place in the castle that looked as if the dark forces hadn't touched it at all. The roses were overgrown from neglect for weeks, but at least they were still there. I was pulling weeds out from around the base of the closest bed when Sera appeared at the garden entrance. She looked better than the last time I had seen her. The healer had kept her for a full day and released her just that morning. She was still pale and
Lucien's POVReclaiming the pack wasn't what I thought it would be.I had spent nights in the forest camp imagining what it would feel like to walk back through these doors, but now, as I stepped into the main hall, I just felt quiet and numb. The castle was still structurally sound, but the war had left its mark. The furniture was destroyed, and it was a mess everywhere. The smell of those devilish watchdogs still clung to the walls, making Shadow's nose curl. The maids emerged slowly as word spread that the pack had returned. Some were tearful. Some stood very still in the hallways as though they needed a moment to believe it. I recognized most of them and told each one directly that they were safe. But one maid I did not recognize. She appeared in the corridor outside the dining hall while Alec and I were going over the status of the grounds. Young, slight, dark hair pinned back from a face that carried a weird expression. She bowed immediately."Alpha. I am glad you have returned.
Lucien’s PovThe forest blurred past me in streaks of dark and silver.Shadow ran with full force and I didn't bother to hold him back. This battle was too high staked to hold anything back right now. The future of my pack was at stake, and I would not fail them as their alpha, and Shadow understood this too.Menae ran beside us.I had never seen anything like it in all my years. She moved through the dark forest like lightning, white and fluid and utterly silent, her paws barely disturbing the ground beneath them. Every time Shadow glanced at her the bond between them flared, it was like they merged and moved together like something combined. Something the dark lord had never had to contend with before. The warriors spread out behind us in a wide formation. Damon held the left flank with six of our strongest fighters. Isaac anchored the right. Alec ran closest to me on my left, his brown wolf keeping pace without effort, as steady as he had always been in every battle we had fought t
Lucien’s POVAfter Cassandra disappeared, I stood behind that tree for a long time, long after the sound of her footsteps faded and the forest claimed her. I allowed her walk away. I did not move. I just stood there seething with anger with that single image burning behind my eyes.Cassandra.I've known her since we were kids. I trusted her like I would trust my own sister, and I knew she loved me, but even though I never returned the feelings, the familiarity between us should have commanded some form of loyalty, but she destroyed even that. She had given them everything. The battle documents, the maps of our weak points, the hidden routes through the pack's outer walls that only those closest to me knew about. I had spent weeks wondering how the dark forces had known exactly where to strike, exactly which pressure points to press and which warriors to target first. Now I knew.It was her.Shadow growled low in my chest, a slow and dangerous sound like a tremor building beneath the e
Lucien's POV I knew she was scared for our well-being. I too was scared as to what might be waiting for us when he got close to the pack. With each step we took, I could feel the dark aura of the dark forces all around the forest. It was thanks to the moon goddess that it did not spread to where we were able to camp. I knew what we were about to do was risky and we could not bring everyone with us so we did not gather much attention from anyone if any attack ensued, it meant we would not be able to protect ourselves very well.We walked a distance before we finally decided to stop. Our present location was at the peak of the aura of the dark forces. The aura was sucking up most of our energy. We had not worked for a while but it felt like we did and that was not good.So this was the plan. This was a way to weaken us so we would not be able to attack and defeat them. The dark Lord knows that he is no match for us. Our wolves were strong and with just a single bite they would die. Th
Aimee's POV A part of me told me I had made a mistake by using my powers to heal him when I was down but another part of me questioned why I would sit and watch my mate die. I could not sit and watch Lucien die.He was my life. Even if I died, he needed to live for his people, for Reine. With me, I d
Lucien's POV The moment that sword went through me, I lost every bit of strength I had. I knew the sword was not an ordinary sword. It was laced in wolf's bane. If it were ordinary swords, I would have been able to get back to my feet, but with the wolf's bane, it paralyzed me. I tried to get back o
Aimee's POV I was frozen in that spot, my hand behind my back as the other covered my mouth. My heart was so close to thudding out of my chest, killing me before this general did. My stomach was turning into so much anxiety. I felt twigs snap, indicating the general was walking closer to me. No, n
Aimee's POVEveryone in the pack is moving helter-skelter, trying to gather as many things as possible, as we only have a day left before the dark forces get into the pack and attack. Unfortunately, due to the outbreak of the illness, not much can be done.I and Lucien went down to the basement. He go
