Maddox’s POV

I sat quietly behind my desk, my attention fixed on the large map spread across its surface. Colored markers covered nearly every section of it. Each one represented a team. Every location had a purpose. Every assignment had been carefully planned.

One by one, I moved another marker into place before leaning back in my chair to study the bigger picture.

Most of them had checked in exactly as instructed. Everything was in position. Everything was progressing according to plan.

Then my eyes drifted toward the two black markers sitting near the edge of the map. Those irritated me. They represented failure. Two teams had already managed to screw up simple assignments before we had even reached the interesting part of the operation.

I clicked my tongue against the roof of my mouth. “Unbelievable.” Out of dozens of people, somehow I always managed to find the idiots.

The office door slowly opened before clicking shut behind whoever entered. I didn’t bother looking up. I already knew who it was.

A week ago, I would’ve had him chained to a chair with tape covering his mouth. Now… Things had changed. After our last conversation, I’d decided to take the restraints off Ralph. As much as I hated admitting it, he wasn’t nearly as reckless as I’d first believed.

His ideas weren’t polished. Some bordered on insanity. Even so… There was always a solid foundation beneath them. Most of them only needed a few adjustments before they became useful.

He still had connections. The kings had stripped him of his pack, but they hadn’t erased every relationship he’d built over the years. Those lingering contacts were worth far more than any title.

I glanced toward another section of the map. That pack had originally been one of my primary objectives. I intended to take control of it and use it as a doorway into the kingdom. A stepping stone. A place close enough to reach the kings… Close enough to reach Traci. That opportunity disappeared the moment they changed leadership. Now the elders had stepped in. Corbin had been placed there as acting Alpha. Royal warriors patrolled the territory day and night while additional guards rotated through on regular schedules. The place was locked down tighter than Fort Knox. Getting inside unnoticed had become nearly impossible. Annoying… But not impossible forever.

“She’s in place.” Ralph’s voice finally pulled my attention away from the map. He walked across the room before lowering himself into the chair opposite my desk.

Unlike the man I’d first met, he looked almost relaxed. He was calmer now. More collected. “I lined up another contact.” He folded one ankle across his knee. “I’ve also got that location under constant surveillance.” He smiled slightly. “The second an opening appears…” His eyes met mine. “… they’ll move.”

I leaned back in my chair. Another thing I’d noticed over the past week… Ralph wasn’t screaming anymore. Normally he couldn’t finish two sentences without raising his voice or threatening someone. Now… He spoke almost quietly. The change suited him. It made him far more dangerous.

We’d spent the last week working side by side. Surprisingly… It worked. I found myself respecting his instincts more with each passing day.

Ralph leaned forward until his elbows rested on the desk. His attention settled on the map. Without asking permission, he reached toward one of the markers. “This one.” He slid it a few inches across the map. “If this team moves here…” He tapped another marker that remained in its original position. “… and this group stays where it is…” His finger traced another possible route. “… anyone approaching from this direction walks straight into the gap.”

I studied the change. At first glance it looked insignificant. Then I followed the route again. My eyebrows slowly pulled together. It made sense. They’d never expect anyone positioned there. Every patrol would naturally focus somewhere else. That left one small opening. One opportunity. One person. Easy to isolate. Easy to grab.

A slow smile spread across my face. “I like it.”

“I figured you would.” Ralph leaned back again, clearly pleased with himself.

The truth was… We weren’t fighting the same war anymore. Another large-scale attack would accomplish nothing except filling more graves with our own men. We’d already learned that lesson. The kings were prepared. Their warriors had adapted. And Traci… She changed everything. The White Wolf wasn’t just powerful. She had become the center of three extraordinary fighters. Whenever she stood with Raiden and Zayden, they moved like a single force instead of three separate people. Charging directly into that again would be suicide. No. This war would be different. Patience would accomplish far more than brute force ever could.

Instead of striking all at once… We’d chip away at them. One problem. One distraction. One disappearance. One carefully planned move after another. Pressure never stopped breaking stone. Eventually… Even kingdoms cracked.

I rested both hands on the edge of the desk before looking back across the map. Every marker represented another opportunity waiting to unfold. Every colored piece had a purpose. Every position mattered.

Silence settled over the room as Ralph and I continued studying every possible route. There would be no rushing. No careless mistakes. No wasted resources. Everything would happen exactly when the timing benefited us the most.

I slowly closed my eyes. The arena had taught me something valuable. Winning wasn’t always about having the strongest army. Sometimes… It was about making the other side believe they were finally safe.

A week had passed since the tournament. A week of quiet. A week of rebuilding. A week of planning. They were probably beginning to think the worst was behind them. Good. I hoped they believed it. Because this time… They wouldn’t see us coming.

I opened my eyes and looked back down at the map. A slow grin spread across my face. I actually think this time… They’ll all go down. Yeah… It’ll take a little longer. But they’re about to start having a whole lot of bad luck.

  • The Reign Of The Last White Wolf   Thumb Drive?

Maddox’s POV Boomer and I were in the middle of discussing Jordan’s death when a knock sounded against my office door. “Come in.” I called out. The door opened, and Ralph stepped inside. The moment I saw him, irritation settled deep in my chest. I couldn’t explain why. Nothing about him had changed overnight. He wore the same confident expression he always carried, walked with that same relaxed stride, and acted as though he belonged wherever he happened to be. Yet lately, every time I looked at him, something felt… off. Maybe I was overthinking things. Or maybe my instincts were trying to tell me something my brain hadn’t figured out yet. Either way, I wasn’t ignoring that feeling. Ralph made himself comfortable in the chair across from my desk without waiting for an invitation. I leaned back in mine, watching him for a brief moment before another knock interrupted the silence. Thor stepped inside carrying a small thumb drive. “Boss,” he said. “Here’s the footage you asked for

  • The Reign Of The Last White Wolf   Going According To Plan

Ralph’s POV The shrill ringing of my phone echoed through the room, but I ignored it and stayed exactly where I was. My eyes remained closed as I stretched out beneath the blankets, hoping whoever was on the other end would take the hint and leave me the hell alone. Silence finally settled over the room, and I smiled to myself. It lasted less than a second. The phone immediately started ringing again. I let out a long, irritated groan before forcing one eye open. Pale morning light filtered through the curtains, painting faint streaks across the floor. Judging by the sunlight creeping through the window, it had to be somewhere around six in the morning. “Damn.” I mumbled. I hadn’t slept that well in weeks. Slowly sitting up, I stretched until my shoulders popped. Every muscle felt relaxed, which was rare these days. Beside me, my mate shifted beneath the blankets and let out a sleepy little sigh before rolling onto her other side. Within seconds her breathing evened back out. I

  • The Reign Of The Last White Wolf   Instincts

Traci’s POV Zayden and I quietly made our way back to my room, neither of us saying much as we walked through the dimly lit hallway. Normally, he would have tried to lighten the mood with a sarcastic remark or tease me until I smiled, but tonight even he seemed to understand that silence said more than words ever could. The palace felt unusually still around us, and for the first time since becoming queen, it didn’t feel comforting. It felt… heavy. The moment we stepped inside my room, I closed the door behind us and walked straight toward the bed. I lowered myself onto the edge of the mattress, leaned forward, and rested my elbows on my knees while my hands cradled my head. Closing my eyes didn’t help. Every time I tried to clear my mind, I saw Raiden’s face exactly as he’d looked a few minutes ago. Lost. Confused. Broken. It made no sense. Everyone had told him exactly what he’d done. Zayden, Kael, and I had all said the same thing, yet he never once argued with us. He hadn’t tr

  • The Reign Of The Last White Wolf   Please…

Raiden’s POV All I knew was that Traci was furious with me. According to Zayden, Kael, and Traci herself, I’d managed to make a complete fool out of myself during dinner. They all told me the same story, just with different levels of patience. Apparently I’d disrespected my own queen, embarrassed my mate in front of everyone, and acted like the biggest idiot in the palace. The problem was… I couldn’t remember a damn second of it. The last thing I could clearly recall was walking into the dining room and watching Traci take the seat between Zayden and me. I remembered smiling because she looked beautiful, and I remembered thinking everything finally felt normal again. After that… Nothing. Just a blank stretch of darkness. Then I woke up in my office with Traci, Zayden, and Kael standing over me, all wearing different expressions. Traci looked hurt. Kael looked worried. Zayden looked like he was debating whether to punch me or help me. Honestly, I wasn’t sure which one I deserved.

  • The Reign Of The Last White Wolf   What Happened?

Zayden’s POV I was lying in Traci’s bed with her tucked safely against my side when Kael’s frantic mind link crashed into my head. “Zayden. Get to Raiden’s office. Right now.” I frowned. “What happened?” “Raiden’s passed out. I can’t wake him.” I rolled my eyes before I even realized I’d done it. Honestly, after everything he’d pulled tonight, I didn’t want anything to do with him. “He didn’t treat you like this when you were the one who screwed up,” Onyx reminded me. “This is different,” I muttered. “How?” Before I could answer, Traci stirred against my chest. She lifted her head just enough to look at me, sleep still clouding her eyes. “What’s wrong with Raiden?” I blinked my eyes slowly. “Did Kael link you too?” She slowly shook her head. “Aurora said Onyx told her.” I rubbed a hand over my face while Onyx replied without the slightest hint of guilt. “They needed to know.” Traci rested her hand against my cheek, her thumb brushing lightly across my skin. “Please go ch

  • The Reign Of The Last White Wolf   Something’s Wrong

Kael’s POV After dinner, everyone went their separate ways. To say the atmosphere in the palace had turned sour would have been an understatement. The entire evening had ended in raised voices, hurt feelings, and enough tension to choke a dragon. Everyone was furious with Raiden, and honestly, I couldn’t blame them. Hell, I was angry too. What happened in that dining room was unacceptable. Traci was our queen. More importantly, she was his mate. Raiden loved that woman with everything he had. I’d watched those two from the very beginning. I’d seen the way he looked at her when she wasn’t paying attention, the way he always managed to put her first even when she irritated him enough to make him question his own sanity. That’s why none of tonight made any sense. It wasn’t just that he defended Mary. It was the way he did it. The words he’d thrown at Traci weren’t just cruel. They weren’t him. I rolled onto my back and stared at the ceiling of my room. Sleep wasn’t happening. Every
