Darwin let out a choked sound and staggered back a bit. Between the two of us, I didn’t know who was more shocked by Freya’s outrageous announcement. “You’re pregnant?” I turned to Wilson in shock. “You’re not even married to her yet?!” “So?!” Freya yelled defiantly as she grabbed Wilson’s arm from a stunned guard. “We love each other!” I stood and waited for a second. Two seconds. Ten seconds? I was waiting to feel some kind of pain that would tell me if I still had feelings for Wilson. But Nothing. “You can't kill him." I sighed numbly as I turned back to Darwin. “He’s your son-in-law and apparently the father of your possible heir. “He should have thought of that before taking advantage of my daughter!,” Darwin growled in shock as color began to rush back into his face. “Lock him up in the cells!” I should protest. Say something or do something to help Wilson but as I watched the guards drag a screaming Wilson from the
Darwin’s POVI walked up and down the closet, fuming in silent anger. She betrayed me!I laid down my heart and trusted her yet she betrayed me! From the closet, I could hear the sound of her moving up and down in the room. What was she even doing there? Should I send her to another room? With a deep sigh, I tied the strings of my sweatpants and strode into the room.“Are you ready to go to bed?” Her floral scent slammed into me as my wolf whined pitifully.“What are you doing? I narrowed my eyes as I gave her a once-over. She just came out of the bathroom. Her wet, dark hair was plastered to her face, and the night dress she had on, sent a bitter taste to my tongue. I missed seeing her in my shirt.“I was just making the bed. It’s late and we need to sleep." Is she trying to get me to sleep so she can steal back the elixir?“Why are you so anxious for me to sleep? Planning to start another stage of your plan?” I sneered as I dropped into the bed, trying my best not to notice how t
Lydia’s POVI watched as Darwin left the room angrily and tears stung my eyes.“He’ll calm down,”“What?” I raised my head and looked at Aamari in surprise. The guard stared at me with a friendly look on his face.“I’ve never seen his majesty care for anyone like he cared for you. He was excited to have a second chance mate. That’s why he’s so angry and hurt.” Amari gave me a small smile. “He’s a good man and his anger isn’t unjustified. Give him time and he’ll calm down. I’ll let you know when the new contract is ready."“Thank you,” I whispered as he stepped out of the room, leaving me behind.I dropped my head into my palms and groaned loudly. My phone beeped and I unlocked it in irritation. Was it Freya asking me to beg her father again?!My hands stilled as I saw the notification was a message from an unknown number. It’s the same number that told me about the meeting! With shaky hands, I opened it. “ WHY DID YOU LET HIM TAKE THE ELIXIR?
Chapter 26Lydia’s POVWhat is he hiding from me?! I wanted so desperately to wait outside and listen in but I knew I barely had seconds left so I pushed open the door.Darwin jumped in surprise and even Parker, who was seated opposite Darwin, had a confused-shocked look on his face.“Your file, Master,” I said as I angrily walked up to his desk and threw down the file. What a hypocrite! He’s so angry with me but he’s also keeping things from me.“How did you get here without me hearing your footsteps or catching your scent?” Darwin asked me with an accusation in his eyes.I scoffed, “Really? So now, once again, I’m at fault."“Answer the question, Lydia!” He growled impatiently.“I don’t know, Master,” I hissed "Maybe you didn’t notice because you were too involved in your conversation." “What do you mean you don’t know! Is this another secret you’re keeping from me?" Darwin got up from his chair and yelled in my face. The audacity!“You’re one to talk! What secret are you asking me
Chapter 27Lydia’s povI anxiously paced up and down my bedroom door and snapped at one of my guards “What are you looking at?!”“Nothing Miss. But have you considered opening the door and going inside?” He asked in amusement.“Haha. Very funny,” I drawled sarcastically as I pushed open the door with a sigh.“Anytime miss!” He called after me as I stepped into the bedroom and shut the door behind me.Darwin was on the bed and having some kind of conversation on the phone so I happily slipped into the bathroom to take a quick bath. For the last week, he has been after my life. Trying to get me to give up and leave the palace. I sighed in pleasure as I stepped under the rain-like shower and allowed the hot water to wash over my scalp.I drew my bath out for as long as I could before wrapping myself in a bathrobe and going into the closet. Darwin was sitting on the bed and silently staring at his phone when a sharp beeping noise in my brain alerted me to his mind link.“Have you come u
Chapter 28Lydia’s PovI took in a sharp breath as Darwin’s hand wrapped around my wrist and he pulled me to the floor beside him.“Come here,” his husky sleepy voice sent Drusilla hoppy in circles as I rested my head on his chest and he wrapped his arms around me.How did I ever think he would be cold on the floor? The man is heat itself. A deep sigh escaped me as the deep heat from his body flowed into me, lulling me to sleep.**********I pressed my cool palms against my cheeks and stared at my reflection in the mirror. Why am I so flustered??When I woke up this morning, Darwin was already gone. He didn’t leave any assignments or jobs for me.Is that a good thing or a bad thing? My phone beeped.“D shouldn’t have the elixir!!!”Great! Another cryptic message from my anonymous messenger. With a sigh I picked up my phone from the dresser, gave my hair one last pat and made my way out of the room.“You don’t have to follow me,” I waved off my guards, hoping they would fall for it.“
Chapter 29 Lydia’s POV “What are you doing here?” Darwin growled as his eyes narrowed suspiciously. “I don’t know what you mean. Am I now banned from roaming about the palace?” I stood upright and patted my hair down while avoiding his eyes. “Lydia,” He sighed in exasperation and pinched the bridge of his nose “You’re in front of Freya’s room. She’s in solitary confinement, so yes for you to be here, you must have a reason. What is it?” Freya’s room? I looked back in confusion. “Your little race landed us in front of his daughter’s room." Drusilla snickered as I crossed my arms and turned back to Darwin. “So? Am I forbidden from visiting Freya? What if I wanted to get to know my new daughter better?” “Lydia!” Darwin leaned in, and pressed one hand against the door behind my head. “You don't even like her and we haven’t done the wedding." “Yet,” I swallowed as I watched his eyes switch color briefly. He was so close, I dropped my hands and could feel his breath on my face.
Chapter 30 “Get off me!” I pushed Darwin away angrily as I got to my feet. He seemed shocked and his eyes widened as he realised I was angry. “Lydia, I– “ “No! You don’t get to talk! Move!” I snapped as I pulled at the bedcover he was sitting on. “I’m sorry,” He apologised and tried to reach for me. I slapped his hands away before he could touch me. “Move!” I huffed as I pulled forcefully at the covers. “Ly, I’m sorry,” I grunted and pulled at the covers as he shifted to the right. The sudden release of the covers made the force I was applying pull me and I crashed into the bed. “Hey, steady,” I blinked and realised, I had fallen into Darwin’s lap. His arms automatically encircled me, the only thing seperating me from his chest was his chest. The first two buttons were popped open so they did no good in stopping me as I stared and licked my lips unconsiously. “Lydia,” Darwin purred as he bent his head lower and stared into my eyes. “I shouldn’t have done that. I’m sorry,”
