Zane

I leaned my head back in exhaustion, releasing a shaky breath. My mind wandered to the fight that I had with Gabriel.

I didn't tell anyone, not even Ashley, but I had been scared at first. I was unsure if I could even win, because I had also started to internalise the things that people were saying about me, things like me being unable to display the same level of strength that I once had because I had broken the curse.

Even during the fight, when I finally got the upper hand, a part of me had sensed that something wasn't right, that maybe it was all just a dream. Amd I wasn't too far from the truth, because it had all been a ploy to get me to drop my guard and expose myself. My mind had been wandering a lot to what would have happened if Bryce hadn't intervened.

As though by some otherworldly orchestration, knocks came on the door of my study, and Bryce himself entered after. The stubble on his jaw had been shaved, allowing him to look a little younger. His waist slightly bent

Ashley The cold air of the night blew through the compound, messing up my hair as I realised that indeed, a simple life was not made for one such as myself.I tucked my knees underneath my chin and remained on the grass, refusing to move until I had a reason to. I was frozen in fear, my mind bringing image after image of what could happen to Zane if somehow he was tricked by James and hurt.I didn't know how long it took, but eventually Zane returned. His fur was streaked with blood, but he didn't have any other major injuries. Even the one on his leg had started to close up.I got up and embraced him, pressing his warmth close to my skin. He was alive, and that was what mattered. I didn't want to ask about James because frankly, I could care less about him. As long as I didn't have to see him around me, then he wasn't my business. Because of the blanket of the evening, no one seemed to take too much notice of a wolf and a woman walking together at night, or pay too much attention t

Ashley I pressed my jaw together in anger, finding teetch against teeth. “I have nothing to say to you, so you might as well just turn around and run in the opposite direction.” I slipped my hand into my boot and brought out a small throwing knife, holding it in front of me defensively. “You don't deserve my patience.”James' handsome face was grim, and a tad thinner, if I looked at it closely. The moonlight cast harsh shadows on his face, making him appear even more menacing. But I was determined to not show him how I truly felt—the trembling of my fingers, or the stiffness of my knees. “Understandable, but there's really something that I have to let you know.” He took a slow step forward.I shook my head. “You step any closer to me, snd I'm going to scream. And what that happens, you're surely going to join your brother in the dungeons.”“Your words wound me, Ashley. I almost thought that we had an…understanding.” He placed his hand to his chest in mock disdain. Even the he had th

Ashley The morning hadn't fully began after I left the dungeon, so I simply took a detour to the Sacred Grove. It had been a long time, and I missed it terribly. Sorting out medicines and making antidotes in my little space had become an enjoyable time for me. I also hadn't seen Alicia since she bid me goodluck for my search, and I felt a little bad because of that, I didn't want her to feel like I paid her little regard. Chances of her actually thinking such were low in my opinion, but still, my silence wasn't the best course of action. The sweet scent of the herbs thriving in the grove reached me first, following me even when I stepped into the large greenery-like building. There were a some new herbs sprouting that we didn't have in our inventory before, so it was likely that Alicia had gotten new ones during my time away. I ticked off the names of some of them in my head, already looking forward to making medicines from them. “You're finally back. Welcome.” She said, walking

Ashley The morning came like it couldn't wait. I quickly got dressed and headed for the dungeons with a simple apple in my hand. Why did I want to see Gabriel? There were many answers, but the one that pushed me like a nail to the skull happened to be the great need to get answers out of him. Two understand why he tried to kill Zane, even if it meant being disgraced and dishonoured. At the entrance which led to the dungeons, I saw a familiar face arguing with one of the guards and demanding to be let inside.“I'll have you removed from this position if you don't let me in this instant!” Her shrill voice carried down the quiet, empty hall, unperturbed by even the slightest of winds. The guard on the other hand, remained stoic, and stared straight ahead, not even showing signs that he heard the threats spewing out of Thea's mouth.I would have preferred to to slide past with little affair, but as the universe would have it, she stood right in my path, blocking the way. I cleared my

Ashley The two wolves circled themselves, waiting for the first person to try and draw the first blood. It appeared to take forever in my own eyes, because I just wanted it to be over. The battle began with a leap from Gabriel, who spread out his claws with the clear intent to kill. Zane dodged out of the way, and the fight began in earnest. Claws slashed. Growls were released. And the crowd released occasional sounds of awe and astonishment as it dragged on. I could barely watch, scared by the possibility that one of Gabriel's slashes could turn into a fatal injury, leaving Zane choking on a pool of his own blood.I removed the dangerous image from my mind and turned to Bryce, who was watching the fight with unmatched focus, to the point where he barely moved. “Are you catching anything on Gabriel yet?” I asked him, almost hoping that he'd respond in the affirmative and give me something to do. I itched to move from where I stood, to do something else asides from watching him.Bu
