The morning came like it couldn't wait. I quickly got dressed and headed for the dungeons with a simple apple in my hand.

Why did I want to see Gabriel? There were many answers, but the one that pushed me like a nail to the skull happened to be the great need to get answers out of him. Two understand why he tried to kill Zane, even if it meant being disgraced and dishonoured.

At the entrance which led to the dungeons, I saw a familiar face arguing with one of the guards and demanding to be let inside.

Ashley The two wolves circled themselves, waiting for the first person to try and draw the first blood. It appeared to take forever in my own eyes, because I just wanted it to be over. The battle began with a leap from Gabriel, who spread out his claws with the clear intent to kill. Zane dodged out of the way, and the fight began in earnest. Claws slashed. Growls were released. And the crowd released occasional sounds of awe and astonishment as it dragged on. I could barely watch, scared by the possibility that one of Gabriel's slashes could turn into a fatal injury, leaving Zane choking on a pool of his own blood.I removed the dangerous image from my mind and turned to Bryce, who was watching the fight with unmatched focus, to the point where he barely moved. “Are you catching anything on Gabriel yet?” I asked him, almost hoping that he'd respond in the affirmative and give me something to do. I itched to move from where I stood, to do something else asides from watching him.Bu

Ashley The duel was just a few minutes away from starting, and we all watched in anticipation. The Lycan Tribe was full of surprises, especially when it came to the topic of their unity. Right from the moment I had stepped foot on their grounds, it had been obvious that there were factions. Some were loyal to the throne, like Clara, Bryce and Alicia. Others were against them, like the Gamma family, and some were just independent choosing to neither sway one way or the other. What I learnt about Lycans was that they were simply werewolves that somehow evolved, and the process wasn't easy. It was like having family that one day no longer shared the same traits as you. Zane had told me one day that even though he was privileged to be born into the royal bloodline, there were many others, not just the Gamma family, who didn't agree with their leadership. In-house conflict occurred every once in a while. As I watched him square off with Gabriel, my mind went further than I anticipated,

Ashley“They must be insane. Thinking that you're unfit to rule simply because you've broken your curse! That's the greatest symbol of strength!” I paced around, hands on my hips.Early morning sun broke through the windows of Zane's room, but it might have as well been noon with the level of angry energy coursing through my veins. “I might have broken the curse, but I'm now more vulnerable. See things from their point.”“It's a foolish point of view. No wonder they let your family bear that curse for so long. They didn't care about what was happening to you as long as they could brag about having a demigod in their midst!”Zane sighed and walked up to me, holding me by my shoulders. “It's too early for you to be this angry, my love. If I'd known, I wouldn't have told you.”I shook him off me, but it was half-hearted. A contented swell filled my belly when this time he wrapped his arms around my waist. “Well you have, and you can't stop me from being angry.”“No, I can't. But that's

JaceThere was nothing more humbling that being confronted by the truth of your own mortality. My world was shrouded in darkness, but voices kept on penetrating the veil. A woman was crying, and a man barked orders, even though his own voice shook with tangible fear.“Please, save him!” The female voice came again, more high pitched than before. It struck a chord within me, and I realised that I knew the voice very well. “Don't let him die, please!” Warmth pressed against my face gently, and two quick drops of liquid fell on my cheeks.“You're not making things better with your loud whining, Carina. Just stay back and let the healers handle him,” said the man. Lucas. “You should go inside and stay there until you're less hysterical.”There was an uneasy silence for a short while before Carina responded. “Oh you can't fool me, Lucas. I know you're scared too. Scared that he'll die and leave your cowardly ass in charge.”“Shut up, Carina. What do you know? At least I can do something as

AshleyJust as I'd thought, their faces were enough to send me spiraling down a pit of countless thoughts and imaginations. What if they didn't take me seriously? What if they heard my words and were disappointed? What if they didn't even allow mw to soeak before deciding that I wasn't worth their time?I rolled my shoulders and took a deep breath. Clara stood a little distance behind me, acting as both protector and support. She nodded her head a little to indicate that I could proceed. There were about three dozen people right outside the medical centre, clamouring to find out what was going on with Zane, and why no one was saying anything about the fact that he returned to the tribe all bruised and unconscious. But underneath all their questions, I could tell that many weren't really concerned. They just wanted to know if Zane was alive or dead.So I led with that. “He's alive,” I said, making my voice firm and loud. The murmuring reduced as people struggled to hear what I was sa
