Chapter 18

Professor Sam had his reading glasses on and was studying the contents of a book. He didn’t raise his head.

“Can’t you see for yourself? Come in, girl, don’t just stand there like a fool”.

Jane had hoped to be able to learn from him today but she didn’t dare to voice it out. Instead, she scurried to clean up the office. Professor Sam was strict and harsh with his students; he didn’t suffer fools, especially those who thought to waste his time.

She had been his assistant for more than six months, and I’m that time, he had made one thing perfectly clear to her: Keep your mouth shut and make yourself useful.

“How is your English, girl?” Professor Sam asked suddenly, placing down his book.

Jane practically shot to her feet, “Passable”.

Professor Sam wasn’t a man to tolerate ambiguous replies like that, so he tossed two documents at her.

“Are you up to it? If so, translate them for me within the next two weeks”.
