Daphne's POV

I would have waited till tomorrow to speak with Oliver but no. Time is of the essence. I didn't care about the rules anymore.

Not after what Brittany told me.

Five days. In five days, those girls would turn three, and no one was going to mention it—not a card, not a balloon, not even a birthday hug. Because Oliver didn’t want to stir media attention? Please. That wasn’t a reason. That was cowardice wrapped in cold logic.

I stormed down the hallway, heading toward the part of the estate I had been specifically told not to enter. His private wing. I remembered the instruction clear as day: “You’re not to enter my quarters unless invited.” Well, screw the invitation. This wasn’t about him anymore.

I turned the corner and entered the section of the house I’d never dared explore. The air even felt different. Cooler, quieter, like even the walls held their breath here. I slowed my steps, unsure which door belonged to him.

“Damn it,” I muttered under my breath, stopping at the

  • The Twin's Secret: A Billionaire's Tempting Proposal   Chapter 198

Xavier's POV Daisy paced the living room, her short brown wig gone, her blonde hair loose and messy. She’d been restless all day, her anger sharper since her spa day with Daphne yesterday. I sat on the couch, watching her, my phone on the table showing the camera feed to make sure we were alone. Her bitterness toward Daphne and Oliver had grown with every meeting as Vera, her new face hiding her identity perfectly, but I could see she was ready to act, ready to make them face her. My plan was working—she was mine, her anger mine to direct—but I had to keep her from moving too fast, from ruining everything. She stopped pacing, her eyes sharp as she turned to me, her voice firm. “I’m done waiting, Xavier,” she said. “I’m ready to confront them. Daphne, Oliver, all of them. I want them to know I’m alive, to see what they did to me.”I leaned forward, my hands clasped, keeping my tone calm. “I hear you,” I said. “You’ve done great as Vera, getting close to Daphne, learning about her life

Daphne's POV Mr. and Mrs. Anderson were leaving for Scotland today, their visit for the gala now over, and I felt a knot in my stomach as I helped them pack their bags in the guest room. They’d come hoping to support my performance, but also desperate for any news about Daisy, their daughter, whose body was still missing from the clinic. I carried their suitcase downstairs, where Oliver was waiting in the living room, his hands in his pockets. The twins, Dahlia and Delilah, were playing nearby, their laughter soft but a stark contrast to the tension in the room. Mr. Anderson was checking his phone, his face lined with worry, while Mrs. Anderson folded a scarf, her eyes red. “Daphne,” she said, her voice soft as she looked up, “thank you for having us. It meant a lot to see you dance.”I set the suitcase down, my throat tight. “I’m glad you were here,” I said, managing a smile. “It… it felt like Daisy was with us, in a way.”Mrs. Anderson nodded, her lips trembling. “We hoped there’

Daphne's POV The sun was bright when I pulled into the parking lot of Bean & Leaf at two o’clock, my hands gripping the steering wheel a little tighter than usual. I’d been looking forward to meeting Vera all morning, her easy smile from the mall still fresh in my mind. The coffee shop was cozy, with wooden tables and the smell of fresh coffee in the air. Vera was already there, sitting near the window, her short brown hair neat, her blue dress swapped for a simple gray sweater and jeans. She waved when she saw me, her smile warm, and I felt a rush of relief. “Hey,” I said, sliding into the seat across from her. “Glad you made it.”“Hey, Daisy,” she said, her voice friendly but with a slight edge I didn’t catch at first. “This place is nice. Good call.”I smiled, ignoring the odd feeling of her calling me Daisy. I’d introduced myself that way at the mall, a slip I hadn’t corrected, maybe because it felt like a way to keep my sister close. “Thanks,” I said, setting my purse down. “Th

Xavier's POV I was waiting at the cottage when Daisy got back from the mall, the river’s steady hum outside doing little to ease my nerves. The plan to disguise her as Vera and send her to meet Daphne was risky, but it was the next step in keeping her angry, keeping her mine. I checked the camera feed on my phone, making sure no one had followed her, and paced the living room, my mind on how she’d pull it off. The door opened, and Daisy walked in, her short brown wig slightly crooked, her blue dress wrinkled from the drive. Her new face was tense, her eyes sharp with anger, and I knew something had happened. She dropped her purse on the table, her hands clenched, and looked at me, her voice shaking. “It worked,” she said. “I found her, Xavier. Daphne. I bumped into her at the mall, helped her with some bags, just like you said.”I sat on the couch, motioning for her to join me. “Good,” I said, keeping my voice calm. “Tell me everything. What happened?”She sat, her hands fidgeting,

Daphne's POV The mall was busy, the hum of voices and footsteps filling the air as I walked through the clothing section, a few bags already in my hands. It had been two days since the gala, and I have been in a resting mood but I needed a distraction, something to pull me out of my thoughts. Shopping seemed like a good way to clear my head, so I’d driven to the mall alone, hoping to find a new dress or something to lift my mood.I was browsing a rack of sweaters, my fingers brushing the soft fabric, when I bumped into someone, my bags slipping from my hand. “Oh, I’m sorry,” I said, kneeling to grab them.A woman knelt beside me, her hands quick to help. “No problem,” she said, her voice calm. “I wasn’t looking where I was going.”I looked up, meeting her eyes, and saw a woman about my age, her dark brown hair cut short, framing a smooth face with high cheekbones. She wore a simple blue dress and black flats, her look neat but not flashy. Something about her felt familiar, but I coul

Xavier's POV By morning, Daisy was becoming impatient because she spent all day indoors in the cottage. She paced the living room, her new face tight with frustration, her hands fidgeting with the hem of her shirt. The river’s hum outside was steady, but it did nothing to calm her. I sat on the couch, watching her, knowing I had to keep her focused, keep her angry, but her restlessness was a problem. The gala had been two days ago, and her bitterness toward Daphne and Oliver was still raw, fueled by my words about their betrayal. But her headaches and flashbacks worried me—if her memories came back, my story could fall apart. I needed to act fast, give her a plan to hold onto, something to channel her anger.“Daisy,” I said, keeping my voice calm, “sit down for a second. Let’s talk.”She stopped pacing, her eyes sharp as she looked at me. “I’m tired of being stuck here,” she said, her voice firm. “I saw them at the gala, Xavier. They’re living their lives, happy without me. What’s th
