MEANDRA

I was going to get my revenge on all of them. Every single one of the kings who had used me, discarded me, tortured me—not just in body, but in soul. One by one, I had marked them in my mind, engraved their faces into the walls of my memory like graffiti scratched into stone.

From the very first king, who’d broken me in with cold hands and colder words.

I had waited. I watched. I had survived.

I watched them through the ajar door to see the kings sitting around the large table.

The scent of roasted meat and spiced wine hung heavy in the air, a grotesque celebration of power. And I—dressed in red silk that clung to my skin and exposed my body to them once again.

I just had to walk among them, smiling.

Pretending. I'll be tossed to the last king then I would my revenge to everyone.

And then came his name.

Alejandro—

The thought seized in my throat.

I couldn’t say it. Couldn’t breathe it. Couldn’t even finish the syllable in my mind. It sat there, sharp and unspoken, stabbing m

ALEJANDROEverything went by so fast, from finding out the pregnancy was fake–A carefully woven lie to trap me into a marriage I never wanted to the next feast where I would reveal what I had discovered and the fate of Jasquire and Malachi who had created this lie. Meandra stood beside me, her posture confident despite the nerves I knew fluttered beneath her calm exterior. She wore the finest gown, dyed a deep violet that complimented the richness of her skin, and adorned with gold jewelry. Her wrists jingled when she walked, and her ears glittered with emeralds. She was no longer the girl others looked past. She stood as the woman I loved, radiant and deserving.I took her hand before everyone, holding it openly for the first time. Gasps rippled through the hall, but I stood firm.“Welcome everyone,” I began, voice carrying clear, “I come before you as a man ready to correct a wrong that should never have existed.I had long believed myself bound by duty. Bound to marry Jasquire un

  • The Tyrant’s Broken Princess   CHAPTER 78

ALEJANDROIt hadn’t started as anything serious. At least, that’s what I told myself. The first few times I stayed over were simple. A place to rest. A bed to share. Nothing more.Or so I tried to believe. But even then, something about being near her settled the restless parts of me—those pieces I’d long grown used to keeping on edge.I remember the first night I fell asleep beside her.I hadn’t meant to. We were just talking—she was curled up at the far edge of the mattress, half-asleep, her voice soft and fading—and I told myself I’d only stay until she dozed off. Just a few minutes. But the room was warm, and her breathing slowed, and something about that quiet… pulled me in.That night, I fell asleep facing her, barely inches between us.By the time the visits became frequent, it was already too late to pretend it didn’t mean something.I began to notice little things. How her hair would cling to her cheek in sleep, and I’d have to brush it back gently just to see her face. How s

  • The Tyrant’s Broken Princess   CHAPTER 77

ALEJANDROMeandra had fainted.I reached her room within minutes, my steps quick and uneven, heart thudding with a growing sense of dread. The door was already ajar, and as I stepped inside, the sight that met me made my breath catch. She was lying motionless on her bed, her limbs limp, her face pale and drawn as if all her life had been drained from her. Her hair spilled across the pillow like a shadow, damp with sweat, and her chest rose and fell with slow, shallow breaths.A doctor met my gaze and spoke in a hushed voice, “She fainted. From fatigue... and hunger, we think. She hasn’t eaten properly in days.”The words struck harder than I expected. Fatigue and starvation. How long had she been pushing herself past the edge, ignoring her own needs, hiding the signs until her body gave out? I moved closer, slowly, carefully, as if any sudden movement might shatter the stillness in the room. Her hands, folded limply on her stomach, looked thinner than I remembered. There were faint tr

  • The Tyrant’s Broken Princess   CHAPTER 75

ALEJANDRO“Why do you keep letting your daughter run wild?” I demanded an answer, my voice already rising before the door even clicked shut behind me. I flung my arm out in a sweeping gesture, as if the air alone could carry the weight of my fury.Malachi closed the door slowly, as though buying himself time. He turned to face me with a puzzled frown creasing his brow. “What’s this about?” he asked, but I didn’t give him the courtesy of a pause.“She was in my room,” I snapped. “On my bed. Lying there like it belonged to her. And I don’t recall letting her in.”His mouth parted slightly, eyes narrowing with a flicker of disbelief. “Who was?”“Your daughter,” I said through gritted teeth, biting back the instinct to shout louder than I already had. “Your wild, wandering daughter who thinks she can barge into other people’s private spaces without asking.”“I—” He blinked, shaking his head slightly. “You’re saying she was in your quarters? Just now?”“Yes. Now. This morning. I woke up to

  • The Tyrant’s Broken Princess   CHAPTER 74

ALEJANDROThe first thing I registered was warmth. Not the kind that came from sunlight through parted curtains, nor the familiar heat of too many blankets wrapped around his legs. This warmth was breathing. It felt as though someone was lying by my side.My eyes flew open. For a long, horrible second, I didn’t move. My brain didn’t quite believe what my eyes were showing me.Someone was in my bed.Not on the bed—in the bed, half covered by a blanket, lying with their back to me as if they belonged there. Long hair fanned over the pillow. A shoulder peeking out from under the covers. One pale, slender arm curled loosely against my chest. As if they’d fallen asleep mid-embrace.I didn’t recognize the arm.My heart thumbed, and immediately, I jerked back, the bed creaking too loudly. She hummed, turning to reveal her face. Jasquire. My eyebrows furrowed.I shot up and scrambled off the mattress. What the hell? The room spun as I rose too fast. My temples throbbed. A sour taste in my mou
