Chapter 2

Author: Chilled Edamame
Martin's expression darkened when Chloe insisted on leaving. "Do you think you can come and go as you wish? What do you take me for? Block the door!"

A few big guys immediately got up and blocked the exit.

"What's the meaning of this?" Chloe's expression changed slightly.

"Don't play innocent. You agreed to come here, so you should know what's going to happen!" Martin laughed. He had finally managed to get Chloe out. There was no way he was letting her leave.

"I'll handle my wife's company matters by myself. You'd better move out of the way!" Leo's expression turned cold.

"Haha! Did I hear that right? You're a waiter, trying to fix it with your measly salary?" Martin laughed outright. Leo was practically humiliating himself.

"That's my business," Leo said with a smile. Getting money wasn't hard for him. He just didn't want to break a promise.

"Shut up! Stop making a fool of yourself. Do you even know how much my company is losing? Talking big only makes people despise you more. Compared to him, you're nothing," Chloe said with disdain. Leo may have tried to look tough, but he had no real power. He was just a joke.

Leo's expression darkened. His own wife was comparing him to an outsider.

"Did you hear that? Even your wife looks down on you! Now bring us the drinks you brought. They'd better taste good!" Martin laughed cruelly. How could such a worthless man even have such a beautiful woman?

Leo was about to speak further, but Chloe cut him off completely. "Are you done? Can we leave now?"

"Leave?" Martin sneered. "Are you really that dumb? Today, you're not leaving until I'm satisfied!"

He reached out to grab Chloe.

"Keep your filthy hands off her!" Leo's expression turned cold. He grabbed Martin's wrist with one hand.

Martin's wrist felt like it was caught in a vice. He howled in pain, "Get him!"

"Let go of Mr. Mason!" Martin's men shouted as they rushed forward, smashing unopened bottles over Leo's head without hesitation.

Clang! Clang!

The sound of shattering glass echoed through the room. Wine and blood splattered everywhere.

"Leo!" Chloe gasped. After living together for nearly two years, she couldn't stay indifferent seeing Leo in this state.

Blood and wine dripped down his face, yet a faint smile appeared, making him look eerie under the dim lights.

The others in the room didn't seem to care. With Martin's status, a few hits meant nothing.

"You dare mess with me?" Martin pulled away and sneered. "I'll give you one chance. Kneel and beg!"

"Martin, don't go too far!" Chloe shouted.

"Haha! Far from it. Your pretty-boy husband is useless. I'll have to show you what being a woman is really like." Martin laughed.

Chloe's cheeks flushed red with anger and helplessness. If Leo had been slightly capable, she wouldn't have been humiliated here.

"Don't push too far!" Leo uttered coldly. If it weren't for his promise to his grandfather, he wouldn't have endured this.

"What, you gonna resist?" Martin mocked and waved. His men closed in again with more unopened bottles.

"Leo, don't be a fool. Kneel and apologize to Mr. Mason. You can't take him on!" Amanda urged. "Chloe, try to reason with him!"

Such was the fate of the powerless. Being humiliated, mocked, and yet never allowed to resist was simply the norm.

"Refusing to kneel? Hit him until he does!" Martin waved.

Clang! Clang!

More bottles smashed against Leo's head, but he didn't flinch. After all this time drawing in his claws, he needed some pain to wake him up.

Seeing him unmoving, more bottles rained down.

Blood and wine poured from his face, staining him red.

"S-Stop hitting him!" Chloe panicked. This was enough to kill a person!

But what could she do?

"Beg me! Beg me, and I'll spare him! Haha!" Martin laughed with a possessive look in his eyes as he glanced at Chloe. Crushing others felt amazing.

"Boss, this guy's head is really hard! He hasn't flinched at all!" one of Martin's men muttered nervously. Any ordinary person would have kneeled long ago, but Leo didn't even make a sound.

"Mr. Mason, that's enough! Have some mercy. I'll entertain you properly somewhere else," Amanda said.

She feared Leo might die. After all, this was her setup.

"Haha, fine. You're not bad, either. I'll give you that pleasure!" Martin said, grabbing Amanda roughly.

Amanda, though not as stunning as Chloe, was charming enough. Once Martin had a taste of her, he wouldn't even forget it.

"Thanks, Mr. Mason!" Amanda gave him a flirtatious glance. She then said to Chloe, "Chloe, get him to a hospital. Poor thing, don't let him get beaten senseless."

"What about you?" Chloe asked. She wasn't leaving Amanda behind. Had she known it was all Martin's men, she wouldn't have come.

"I know Mr. Mason well. He won't hurt me," Amanda said nonchalantly. She pushed Chloe toward the exit while inwardly smirking. She'd set Chloe up, and Chloe still worried about her.

Of course she knew Martin well. Otherwise, how could he have seized the upper hand in this deal?

"Alright." Chloe nodded and grabbed Leo.

He moved as if he had no will of his own.

"Go clean up first. I'll take you to the hospital," Chloe said coldly once outside. Leo had been beaten, yet he didn't react at all.

She didn't ask much of him, but at least he should act like a man.

"I'm fine," Leo said calmly.

"What? Feeling wronged? Thinking I betrayed you?" Chloe sneered. "Don't forget. Our marriage was just a formality anyway."

"No. It's just been a long time since someone's hit me this hard," Leo said.

"Whatever. Do as you please!" Chloe clenched her jaw and left. She thought Leo was just giving up completely.

After watching Chloe leave, Leo went to the bathroom to clean up. He then casually walked out Starlite Karaoke's back door onto a deserted street.

A mysterious, unmarked Bentley pulled up in front of him.

A young man in a tuxedo stepped out. "Sir, this is yours. Your grandfather said to return it!"

Leo was surprised. The man handed him a black card with no markings and an old antique phone.

Inside the Bentley, someone was watching him.

"You old bastard, come out here and face me!" Leo cursed.

Without a word, the young man kicked him to the ground and started beating him.

"Sir, please mind your language next time. It's your grandfather's order."

The young man then got back into the car and drove off.

In a short time, Leo had been beaten twice. Yet, he felt elated. His miserable days were finally over. He no longer had to endure this humiliation.

"Leo, you're not beaten into a daze, are you?" another waiter asked nearby. "Those rich folks aren't people we can mess with."

"Eric, I'm reborn!" Leo laughed.

The air in the conference room was thick with tension. Martin clearly had Chloe cornered this time.Chloe knew very well that if this deal fell through, the company she had built from scratch since college might not survive for long. Martin's terms were brutal. Agreeing to them would be the same as handing over the company outright."Chloe, think about it carefully. Mr. Mason is only doing what's best for us," Amanda whispered beside her."Amanda, we've fought for years to build this. Do you really want to just give it away?" Chloe asked with frustration."You've seen the state of the company. This is the only way out. Once things stabilize, the business will grow even stronger. In the end, it'll all work out," Amanda said.Martin didn't rush her. He leaned back comfortably in his chair, confident that Chloe would give in. He was certain she wouldn't dare to refuse.Chloe and her key team members ran through the numbers and possible outcomes, but the more they analyzed, the mor

"Ms. Yates, a few companies we struck deals with suddenly changed their minds!"Early that morning, Chloe heard terrible news from her secretary."Did they say why?" Chloe frowned a little. The secretary shook her head. "No. They just said they need more time to reassess.""I see." Chloe's brows furrowed. It wasn't just a minor setback. The timing couldn't have been worse. She had just expanded her business, and the new production site had only recently gone into operation. This was the most critical phase of growth.Thankfully, Leo had somehow pulled in 50 million yesterday. That should buy them some time. But things only spiraled from there. One bad report after another came in. Even the factory workers had begun a large-scale strike. This month's payroll hadn't gone through yet, but they had already explained the short delay. In all her years running the company, Chloe had never failed to pay her employees. So many things happening at once couldn't be a coincidence.Even

Who could possibly eat while looking at those two weird-looking faces?Leo was an exception. He dug in like he hadn't eaten in days. He was especially focused on the lobster. 'Damn. This is good.'Harold and Steven were so furious that they nearly flipped the table, but they didn't dare. Leo seemed to know some kind of witchcraft, and neither of them wanted to test it.Finally, they had no choice but to give in."Fine. We'll pay for the car and the damages. Now fix us!" Harold said, forcing down his rage."What's the rush? Have someone send everything over first," Leo said without even looking up. He was still tearing into the lobster.Harold was furious. All these years, people had treated him with respect, yet now he was being humiliated by a live-in son-in-law. He couldn't stand it.But a wise man knew when to back off. So he made a few calls, ordering a brand-new Bentley to be delivered immediately. Only a luxury car would do, or Leo might not let them off the hook.Soon en

"Leo, have you lost your mind? You think your arm is worth 50 million? Apologize right now!" Susan snapped. She was terrified of offending Harold's family. If they decided to retaliate, life would become miserable for them. Sure, things were going well for them now, but if the Yates family wanted to, they could ruin Chloe's company overnight.Even if Harold offered to pay, Susan wouldn't dare take it."Mom, they're the ones who hurt Leo's arm! Why aren't you saying anything about that?" Chloe protested."He asked for it! Who told him to mess with Steven? He deserved what he got," Susan shot back."Did you hear that? You're just a kept man in this house. Getting smacked by me should be an honor," Steve sneered."If that's your attitude, then your face might just stay that way forever," Leo said. "You…!" Steven shot up from the couch, but Harold quickly grabbed his arm."We're all family here. Let's not make things worse. Steven was in the wrong this time. Let's just forget i

"I'm taking you to the hospital!" Mandy said the moment she snapped out of it."What hospital? Took you long enough to remember. It's old news now. Let's just go pick up my wife from work," Leo said impatiently. His tone was casual, like his broken arm was nothing more than a paper cut.Mandy blinked in disbelief. His arm was clearly fractured, yet he looked completely unfazed. Maybe he really wasn't just some kept pretty boy, after all. They drove straight toward the business park. On the way, Leo even stopped by a farmer's market to grab some groceries. He was like a perfect suburban husband running errands after work.By the time they reached the business park, it was almost closing time. They picked Chloe up right on time.Chloe immediately noticed the car. Her husband had gone to 'get the car fixed,' and now he'd come back in a different, much more expensive one. Naturally, she was curious.Mandy didn't hold back. She told Chloe everything that had happened that afternoon in

Was Mandy really that old now? A high schooler just called her ma'am."What's wrong with her?" Tatiana asked, puzzled."Nothing. Probably just a little shaken up," Leo replied with a grin.Mandy really was, but it wasn't from fear. Instead, it was from being called ma'am.For the rest of the drive, Mandy barely spoke. Every few minutes, she pulled out her compact mirror to check her face, convinced she was spotting new wrinkles.Tatiana, on the other hand, wouldn't stop asking Leo questions. She kept calling him an expert driver, which honestly made him feel pretty good.Naturally, he did what men often do, which was to play the wise mentor. He tried to talk some sense into her, telling her to stay away from Steven's crowd."Ma'am, can you take the wheel for a bit?" Tatiana asked as they neared the city. She stopped the car."Oh, okay," Mandy said in a daze. She was still not over the trauma of being called ma'am.Tatiana got out, grabbed a backpack from the trunk, and climbed
