The Verandah and barbecue are were lit with colored lights after sunset, and the meat was grilling on the glowing embers of the fire. The aroma was appetizing, but Elena was beginning to suspect that she would not be able to eat a thing.

Tension had gripped her throat during the course of the evening, and it was fast becoming an effort to speak. She had tried desperately to not to glance in Stephan’s direction, but her eyes had been drawn to him severally as if by a magnet.
