Kyle's POV

Blood continued to pour from my mouth, more than seemed possible. It tasted like metal and mortality. It had failed and all the time I'd wasted believing I could outrun this ending.

The machines around me began screaming. Monitors that had been beeping steadily burst into alarms as my vital signs crashed. Heart rate erratic. Blood pressure plummeting. Oxygen saturation dropping like a stone.

Through the chaos, I could see Thomas standing against the wall, his face white with horror, his hands pressed against his mouth as he watched me bleed. His eyes were wide with the particular terror that came from witnessing someone die in real time.

I had so lost to him.

The door burst open. Nurses flooded the room with the efficient panic of people who'd dealt with medical emergencies countless times. Someone pushed Thomas toward the door, someone else tilted my head forward to prevent me from choking on my own blood, someone applied suction to clear my airway.

  • The Unwanted Wife and Her Secret Twins   Chapter 353 Be Brave

EthanVictoria was pacing again, talking fast about phone calls and demands and making people pay for what they'd done. The fake Mia kept checking her watch and looking nervous, like she was starting to realize this plan wasn't working the way they thought it would.I was trying to listen and figure out what they really wanted, but mostly I was watching the room and thinking about exits. There was the door we came through, which was locked. There was the window, which Madison said was too high up. And there was another door on the far wall that Madison said connected to the next room.If we could get to that door, maybe we could get to those servants' stairs Madison remembered. Maybe we could get to a phone and call real Mama, or maybe we could just get outside and run.But we'd have to wait until Victoria and the fake Mia weren't watching us so close."The first call will be simple," Victoria was saying. "Madison tells Mia that she's safe but that she needs to follow instructions. No

  • The Unwanted Wife and Her Secret Twins   Chapter 352 Do you know a way out of here?

MadsionThe fake Mia was watching us with those mean eyes, like she was trying to figure out if we were going to cause problems."I need to use the bathroom," I said, which was sort of true but mostly I wanted to get away from those eyes."I'll show you where it is," the fake Mia said."I know where it is." I'd been in this house enough times to remember where things were. "Can Alexander and Ethan come with me? We always stay together."Mommy waved her hand like she didn't care. "Fine. But don't wander around. This isn't your house."We walked up the big staircase with the golden railings, our footsteps muffled by the thick carpet. I led them down the hallway toward the bathroom, but mostly I was thinking about the layout of the house, remembering which doors led where."Madison," Ethan whispered when we were far enough from the stairs. "Do you know a way out of here?"I did know. When Daddy brought me here, I used to play hide-and-seek by myself while the grown-ups had their boring t

Ethan's POVThe woman who looked like Mama wasn't Mama.I knew it the moment she bent down to buckle Alexander's seatbelt. Her hands moved wrong—too careful, like she was handling something fragile instead of my brother who squirmed and kicked during every car ride. Real Mama would have already said "Alexander, stop wiggling" in that voice that meant business. This woman just smiled behind her mask and patted his head.Alexander was chattering like he always did when he was nervous, his words tumbling over each other in his excitement to fill the scary quiet. "Are we going on an adventure, Mrs. Victoria? Is that why Mama came to get us? Where are we going? Can we get ice cream?"Victoria sat in the front passenger seat, not looking back at us. Her shoulders were tight under her expensive coat, and she kept checking her phone like she was waiting for something important."We're going somewhere safe," the fake Mama said. Her voice sounded like Mama's voice, but the words came out too sm

  • The Unwanted Wife and Her Secret Twins   Chapter 350 I don't see Alexander and Ethan

Mia's POVI could smell snow coming in the wind that swept across the preschool's playground. The kind of sharp, clean scent that promised the first real storm of winter. Gas had been restless this morning, pacing by the apartment door while I'd prepared lunch boxes. Dogs sensed weather changes before humans did, and his anxiety probably meant the snow would start tonight. Alexander would be thrilled—he'd been asking every morning if today would be snowman weather.Mrs. Okada stood near her daughter-in-law's Honda, her granddaughter Sophie visible in the backseat. She waved when she spotted me, calling out in her careful English, "Mrs. Mia! Very cold today!""Hello, Mrs. Okada. Yes, snow tonight I think.""Good for children. They love snow."The main doors opened and children began streaming out in their winter coats and bright scarves. I spotted familiar faces immediately—Emma from Alexander's art class, Jacob who lived in our building, Sarah with her characteristic pigtails. But I

  • The Unwanted Wife and Her Secret Twins   Chapter 348 How bad is it really?

Kyle's POVI sat in the chair by the window, not because I wanted to look out at the city but because the bed felt too much like surrender. The door opened. Thomas Wallace stepped inside, his coat still damp from the December drizzle. He stopped short when he saw me in the chair rather than the bed, his eyes taking in the IV line snaking from my arm, the oxygen cannula beneath my nose, the pale gray cast that had settled over my skin like ash.Such a way of humiliation."Kyle.""Thomas." I didn't stand. The effort wasn't worth the potential embarrassment of my legs giving out. Thomas closed the door behind him. He looked like he'd been running."I came to talk about Victoria Whitmore." He moved to the chair across from me, but remained standing. "Her lawyers filed for emergency bail this morning."I knew it’s just the final death throes."Compassionate release pending appeal. They're claiming the conditions of her detention are exacerbating a pre-existing heart condition." T
