Chapter 1 The Voice in My Womb

Author: Ranye
"Ms. Brooks, congratulations! You're going to be a mother. The report shows you're already a little over two months pregnant. From now on, you'll need to watch your diet and take good care of the baby," the doctor said gently.

Her voice drifted past my ears. I jerked my head up and stared at the report in her hand.

Only then did I dare to believe it.

I had been reborn.

The very next second, I heard a voice inside my womb. 'Mom, Dad will divorce you as soon as you give birth to me.'

Hearing the exact same words I had heard in my previous life, a chill swept through my body.

The agony of dying on the operating table had not faded yet.

Before I could even process it, the voice sounded again. 'His true love can't have children. That's why he married you. You're just a tool to give birth. Once I'm born, he'll divorce you, take me away, and go live happily ever after with her.'

In my last life, the moment I heard those words, I went straight to my husband and asked for a divorce.

No matter how he explained or begged, I believed the child completely, without a shred of doubt.

It was only right before I died that I learned the truth.

Everything had been a lie.

Why would the child do this?

In this life, I had to find out.

Noticing the change in my expression, the doctor asked with concern, "Ms. Brooks, are you feeling all right? Are you too excited by the news? Would you like me to prescribe some glucose?"

I gently placed a hand over my lower abdomen and asked after a brief pause, "Doctor, is this baby normal?"

She froze for a moment, clearly confused. "Do you mean the baby's health?"

My mind flashed back to my last life—the extreme abnormal position of the fetus, and the doctor's words that it almost seemed like the baby was deliberately tormenting me inside my body.

In the end, both of us had died on the operating table.

If I chose not to keep this child in this life, would the outcome be different?

I nodded and said slowly, "This pregnancy was unexpected. I'm not prepared yet, and I'm worried something might go wrong. If I were to terminate the pregnancy—"

Before I could finish, a sharp pain tore through my lower abdomen.

My insides churned violently, as if an invisible hand were squeezing my organs.

The next second, the voice rang out again. 'Mom, what were you trying to say to the doctor? You're not thinking of getting rid of me, are you? I wouldn't like that.'

The pain doubled instantly. My whole body collapsed into the chair, unable to move.

Only then did I understand.

The child was listening to everything around me from inside my womb.

The moment I showed even a hint of not wanting him, he would drag me down with him.

Seeing my distorted expression, the doctor finally realized how serious the situation was. "Ms. Brooks, how are you feeling right now? If your body isn't suitable for pregnancy, I recommend putting your health first. You can always have children later."

Clenching my teeth and forcing myself to endure the pain, I said, "I'm fine. I can handle it. Please prescribe some more glucose and nutritional supplements. I need to make sure the baby is healthy."

The instant I finished speaking, the pain vanished.

The voice returned once more. 'That's more like it, Mom. You have to take good care of yourself and hold on until the day I'm born.'

Sweat soaked through my back. I didn't dare say another reckless word because I knew he was always listening.

Just then, my husband's text message came through. 'Honey, I've got a class reunion tonight. I'll be home late.'

In my last life, that message became the fuse that ignited our divorce.

I immediately believed the voice inside my womb, convinced my husband was out on a date with another woman, and filed for divorce that very night.

This time, I would not repeat that mistake.

I picked up my phone and replied, 'Okay. I'll wait for you to come home.'

The moment I realized how serious the situation was, I rushed to block the door to the nursery."Emily, have you lost your mind?"Her eyes were bloodshot, the murderous intent in them impossible to hide. "You knew all along, didn't you? You've been waiting to watch me make a fool of myself, haven't you?"I glanced at the half-closed door behind me, silently mapping out an escape route. If I screamed for help right now, I might be able to hold on until the neighborhood security arrived.Emily seemed to see straight through my thoughts. She suddenly burst into wild laughter."Don't bother looking! Tonight, no one in this entire community will hear you scream. I paid them all off. Every gate is shut tight, and everyone's gone deaf. You're an orphan with no parents to rely on. Let's see who's going to save you tonight."Only then did I truly understand that Emily had come here with a plan to hurt me.I forced myself to suppress the terror clawing at my chest and tried to calm her do

At my final prenatal checkup before labor, I ran into Emily at the hospital. She was there for the same reason. She looked me up and down, eyeing my increasingly swollen body, and burst into laughter."Hannah, it's only been a few months. How did you turn into this? Anyone who didn’t know better would think you’d been fed like livestock."I stared at her without a flicker of emotion and replied coldly, "Thanks for the well wishes. My baby will be just like a little pig—fair and chubby. Yours, though, might not be so lucky."My words hit a nerve. Emily flew into a rage, pointing at me and shouting in the hospital hallway, "Hannah, let's see how long you can stay smug! You really think you'll make it through childbirth? When the time comes, you and that baby of yours will—"She cut herself off halfway through, realizing she had said too much, and clamped her mouth shut. After a long pause, she forced out another line, "Fine. Then, I hope your baby really does turn out fair and chub

'Mom, I told you so! I've been saying you should leave him! And now look at you!'I clenched my fists, swallowing the unease rising in my chest, and asked carefully, "Emily pressured you into saying this, didn't she? You two… it was just an accident, right? Daniel, if you tell me the truth, I can forgive you."But Daniel reached over and gently stroked Emily's hair, his expression soft and indulgent. "Emily and I truly love each other. I'll give you the compensation you deserve, but I hope you can let us be together."I watched Emily leaning smugly against Daniel's shoulder, grinning like she owned the world. Oddly, instead of feeling anger, I felt a spark of curiosity.Would she even be able to smile when the truth finally slapped her in the face?…That very nig
