River "It's prom day," Sydney says with excitement. I never knew that my best friend liked events like prom. Sydney is usually more antisocial than I am. She could easily be one of the popular kids, but instead, she has chosen to stick by my side all these years, even fighting my battles against Rock and his friends. Rock Last night, River looked incredibly attractive, even after Amy threw a glass of red juice on her. Sydney and I convinced her to stay at the prom until it ended. Afterwards, we went to a waffle house for breakfast. When we got home, River was exhausted, so I carried her to bed. I secretly laid in her bed and watched her sleep until I fell asleep myself. Sometime this morning, I had to use the bathroom, so I got up and went to my own bedroom. Later in the morning, I got dressed and headed downstairs for breakfast or brunch. River Today has been a fun day so far. We have been having outside festivities for the seniors during the last couple of months of school. It's nice, but it doesn't make much sense because we still have finals to deal with. I'm ready for the finals, but I'm not sure about the football jocks. I have a feeling that Rock is going to want to cram for the finals during the last week of school, and I'll probably have to help him. As I'm thinking about this, Rock sneaks up behind me and grabs me by the waist. He starts running with me, and I can't help but squeal. I ask him what he's doing, and he says he's getting me wet. He's started calling me "little River" instead of the water girl, and I find it kind of cute. I protest, saying that I'm not wearing the right clothes, but Rock insists that I should let loose and have some fun for once. I give in and we slide down the slip and slide together. Rock "I want to take River somewhere for the weekend. Get her out of here for a little bit," I said to my mom during breakfast. "Well, you're 18 and in your senior year of high school, so I don't see a problem with it. Let's see what Sharon has to say about it." I couldn't understand why Sharon would have a say in anything that involves River. She has never been a part of her life. But I guess I shouldn't be too harsh on her. It's not her fault she wasn't around. "Okay, yeah, let's go ask her and see what she thinks so I know if I can go wake River up or let her sleep." River I follow Sydney into the kitchen upon arriving at the cabin to assist her in preparing sandwiches and drinks for everyone. I can sense that she has something to discuss with me, although I am unsure of what it could be. Therefore, when she confronts me about Rock, I am taken aback. "Damn it, River, give Rock a chance to be a good boyfriend to you, despite his past mistakes. Be open-minded and don't wait for something negative to occur." I know she is right. I haven't been giving this relationship a fair chance. I have been guarded the entire time, and I need to allow Rock the opportunity to prove himself. Rock The police officer handcuffs me without saying another word and escorts me into the back of a police car. But let's go back for a moment. Did he just say that I was being arrested for Jim Darby's murder? Jim is dead. I may not have liked how he treated my girlfriend and my mom, but I would never consider killing anyone, even if he made me angry as my girlfriend's father and my mom's former lover. Despite her current feelings, my mother still cares for him to some extent. When we arrive at the police station, the officer leads me into a room and closes the door. I don't see him again for three hours. Then, two other officers enter the room. They are dressed in plain clothes, so I assume they are detectives. "Good afternoon, Mr. Martinez. River "It's been a few days since Rock was accused of murdering my father, only to find out that my father is actually alive. Now, the cops want Rock's help. I'm not okay with them using my boyfriend as a spy. They know Jim is alive, so why not arrest him for faking his own death and accusing Rock of whatever they did? Why rely on an 18-year-old to do their job for them? The cops want Rock to contact Jim so that he will come out of hiding and they can arrest him. Why not just wait for him to show up on his own?
