Chapter 9

Chuck's voice was trembling when he asked, "Are you saying that our feelings can't compare to what you have with Oliver, even though you've only known him for a few months?"

As I looked at him, I couldn't help but feel that this entire situation was incredibly ridiculous. It had already come to this, but he still believed that the problem lay in the amount of time I had known Oliver.

"Do you still remember the day I had my miscarriage, Chuck?"

Chuck whipped his head up. His eyes were sparkling as if he didn't expect me to bring up that incident.

"I passed out in the bathroom after bleeding out that day. I called you 17 times, but you didn't pick up a single one of my calls," I said calmly as if I was simply telling someone else's story instead of my own.

"When Nancy rushed me to the hospital, the doctor told me that it would be difficult for me to conceive again in the future. And where were you when this was happening? With Rebecca picking out presents."
