Unapologetic

MALIA

I ran back to my room in tears, my heart still in disbelief of what just happened.

I could remember like it was yesterday when Victoria was brought back to the pack.

When I looked at her and learned she had a wolf, I'd felt threatened, but I had termed it as me being insecure. I could remember asking Zade if there was anything I should be worried about and while he responded that there wasn't, he lost his temper at me and made it seem like I was accusing him wrongly. Like I was doubting his trust and love for me. But now, this was it...

This was where all that trust and love ended. He betrayed me without looking back. He didn't care about all we'd been through together. He didn't care about what we shared. I sniffled, wrapping the duvet over me as tears streamed down my cheeks.

For some weird reason, even while I cried, my gaze was locked onto the door. No, it was not for some weird reason, but because I was waiting to see if the doorknob would be twisted and if Zade would rush in. I just wanted him to explain.

I just needed him to tell me that Victoria seduced him. And I wished for him to apologize and comfort me. I don't know, but I felt if he did those, I might forgive him. I really loved him that much. But the doorknob was never twisted, he never came. I waited until midnight, not knowing when I finally dozed off.

It was the night of the full moon.

All morning and day, Zade never came to seek for me. I'd waited for him thinking that he might have been too guilty to appear before me last night and would do so today. But that never happened.

Out of curiosity, I'd had to ask my maids about his whereabouts. This I did in different intervals. Surprisingly, they all gave me the same response; he hadn't left Victoria's room since he entered yesterday.

He'd had both his dinner, breakfast and lunch there. With her.

Their responses left my heart even more battered and bruised. I felt the intense urge to go confront him and ask him why he was suddenly so wicked to me, but I shook my head. There was no need.

Since he was still in Victoria's room even as it is nighttime and a moment he should be with me, his Luna, it was the best time for me to escape the Pack house.

I stood up from my bed and glanced around my room for the last time, my eyes blurry.

It was really hard to believe that I was really running away. Leaving everything behind.

But yet it was my reality.

It took a lot for me to gather myself together and drag my feet to the door, turning the doorknob and opening the door.

My eyes widened as I was greeted with the presence of Zade. My breathing quickened.

His right hand was raised. He must have been about to knock.

"Zade?" I whispered. "What are you doing here?" I was always almost out of breath whenever I was before him. Especially since Victoria came back into our lives.

He brought his hand down and looked from me to the door and back at me. "Where are you going?" He asked, ignoring my question.

I swallowed a lump of spittle. Why was he asking that? Could Lily have ratted me out to him? I was suddenly so anxious.

"T... To the creek." I stuttered.

He nodded and opened his mouth but closed it back. He looked like he wanted to say something but couldn't bring himself to say it. In the end, he turned around and began walking away.

I lost all sense of reasoning as I found myself running after him. "Zade," as I caught up with him, I grabbed his arm. "You know you can tell me anything. I'm still your mate after all. Tell me, what is it you want to say?"

He was silent for a while before shaking his head. "It's nothing. I was just passing by."

"Really?!" I yelled before I could help it. "Throughout the night, I waited for you to come give me an explanation for what I saw you doing with Victoria but you never came. Throughout the day, I also waited. And now, you are here, you don't think it's time you gave me that explanation? Why then did you come to my room? You don't think I'll believe that excuse, you were passing by, do you?"

Without saying anything, he gently removed my hand grabbing his arm and began walking away. This time, I was so weak to go after him. My legs wobbled and I dropped to the floor. Could it be that he was really passing by and just felt like checking up on me? Or could it be that he just felt I didn't deserve any explanation?

I didn't know the answers to those questions but I didn't think I needed one. He'd already shown me just what I needed to know.

He didn't care about me. Not anymore.

I slowly stood up from the floor and walked away, heading towards the creek.

Lily was already waiting when I arrived.

"Malia," she whispered on sighting me. "You took a lot of time. For a moment I thought you'd changed your mind. To be honest, I prayed it was so."

I didn't respond. I wasn't in the mood to.

"Let's go." As if noticing that, she quickly shifted her mood and said.

I nodded and together we left the creek to the border. It was late midnight when we finally touched down at the borders.

I looked around, there was no pack guards on patrol. I looked back at Lily with raised brows. "Did you handle the guards?"

"Something like that." She shrugged. "This is as far as I can go. Goodbye."

A drop of tear slid down my cheek as I turned and glanced back at the pack. The pack that held so much memories of my life. "Goodbye, Lily." I whispered and passed through the border.
