Sienna’s Pov

I didn’t sleep. Every time I closed my eyes, I heard the voice again: “If you care about your daughter, stop looking for Cole Calloway.”

By three in the morning, I was sitting on my couch with a blanket wrapped around my shoulders and my laptop balanced on my knees. The unknown number was disconnected—I’d already checked. Twice. Okay, maybe six times. The result was always the same: nothing. Whoever called me didn’t want to be found, and somehow that made it worse. Because normal people didn’t make anonymous threats.

I glanced toward Ava’s bedroom. The door was slightly open, and I could see the edge of her nightlight glowing. My chest tightened.

The call itself wasn’t what scared me. It was the mention of Ava. Someone knew she existed. Someone knew I was looking for Cole. Someone was watching. That thought followed me all night and straight into the next morning.

By the time I arrived at Calloway Industries, I was exhausted. I walked through the lobby clutching a large coffee and silently praying nobody spoke to me before nine.

The universe immediately ignored my request.

“Rough morning?”

I looked up to find Marco Reyes smiling at me. Great. Marco worked in operations and had this uncanny ability to know everybody. He was friendly. Too friendly.

“Is it that obvious?” I asked.

He winced. “A little.”

Wonderful. Marco handed me a second coffee, and I frowned.

“Why do you have two?”

“I bought one for myself.”

“And the other?”

“You look like you’re about to fight someone.”

I laughed despite myself. “Thank you.”

“Anytime.”

We stepped into the elevator together, and Marco glanced sideways at me. “You know everybody’s talking about you, right?”

My stomach dropped. “What?”

“Nothing bad,” he said quickly, but that wasn’t reassuring.

“Then what?”

He grinned. “You’re the woman who made Roman Calloway stare.”

I nearly choked on my coffee. “What?”

“The entire executive floor noticed,” Marco laughed.

I wanted the elevator doors to open and swallow me whole. “You’re imagining things.”

“Nope.”

“Definitely imagining things.”

“Roman doesn’t stare at people,” I insisted.

He just shrugged as I groaned. “Please stop talking.”

Unfortunately, Marco seemed delighted by my suffering. When the elevator doors finally opened, I escaped. Barely.

****************

The morning passed surprisingly fast—emails, meetings, project reviews, actual work. For almost two hours, I forgot about anonymous phone calls and missing billionaires.

Then my phone vibrated.

A text message from an unknown number made my blood run cold instantly. I opened it.

Only three words appeared on the screen: Leave it alone.

My stomach dropped. Again. No explanation, no signature, nothing—just a warning. Someone definitely knew what I was doing. The question was who.

I quickly looked around. Nobody seemed interested in me. Nobody seemed suspicious. Everyone was working, talking, typing, living their normal lives. Meanwhile mine was turning into a thriller movie.

I shoved my phone into my pocket and tried to decide. Maybe I should stop. Maybe June was right. Maybe this entire thing was a mistake.

Then I remembered Ava’s face—the shape of her eyes, the smile she inherited from a man she’d never met. No. I couldn’t stop. Not now. Not when I was finally getting close.

Around noon, my manager asked me to deliver documents to the executive floor. Of course. The universe hated me.

I grabbed the folder and headed upstairs. The executive level was quieter than the rest of the building and more expensive too. Everything looked polished, perfect, untouchable.

As I walked toward Roman’s office, voices drifted through an open conference room. I wasn’t trying to eavesdrop—honestly. Then I heard a familiar name that made me freeze.

“Cole.”

Inside the room stood Roman and an older man I recognized from company photos: Douglas Calloway, the patriarch himself. Roman’s expression was hard, frustrated. Douglas looked tired and older than the pictures suggested. Much older.

“He needs to come back eventually,” Douglas said.

Roman’s jaw tightened. “Not my decision.”

“He’s your brother.”

“And whose fault is that?”

Silence followed—the kind of heavy silence that said too much. Douglas looked away first, which was interesting. Very interesting.

Roman continued, his voice controlled. “He left because nobody listened.”

“That’s not what happened.”

“Isn’t it?”

The older man’s face darkened. I knew I should have walked away. I knew that. Instead I stood there, listening, trying to understand, trying to figure out who Cole really was.

Then someone cleared their throat behind me, and I nearly screamed.

I spun around to find Roman’s assistant standing there, looking unimpressed. Oops.

“Miss Vale?”

I held up the folder. “Documents.”

Smooth. Very smooth.

She pointed toward Roman’s office. “Leave them there.”

I practically ran.

A few minutes later, I stepped out of Roman’s office and stopped dead.

Someone was sitting in the waiting area. A young man, maybe mid-twenties, with dark hair and unmistakably Calloway eyes. The moment he saw me, he stood and stared, really stared. The same way I’d stared at Roman. Like he’d seen a ghost.

My pulse quickened. “What?”

The guy laughed softly. “Wow.”

Not helpful. “What?”

He shook his head. “You really don’t know.”

A strange feeling settled in my stomach. “Know what?”

The young man took a step closer, looking almost excited for a moment. Then the elevator doors opened behind him, and Roman stepped out. The young man’s expression immediately changed. Interesting.

“Nate,” Roman said sharply.

So this was Nate—the younger brother.

Nate looked between us, then smiled. But it wasn’t a happy smile. It was more like someone who had just figured out a puzzle and wished he hadn’t. Roman’s eyes narrowed.

“What are you doing here?”

Nate ignored the question. Instead, he looked directly at me, and my blood ran cold as he said something that stopped the entire hallway in its tracks.

“You should tell her the truth.”

Roman’s face hardened instantly. “Nate.”

But Nate wasn’t looking at him anymore. He was looking at me, and for the first time since I’d met him, there wasn’t a trace of amusement in his expression. Only genuine concern.

Then he said the words that turned my world upside down.

“The man you’re looking for didn’t disappear.”

My heart stopped.

Nate pointed directly at Roman, and quietly said…

“His family got rid of him.”

  • The Wrong Mr Calloway    Chapter Eleven

Cole’s PovI’d been standing outside Sienna’s apartment building for almost an hour before I found the nerve to move.Four years. Four years of watching her from a distance, telling myself it wasn’t the right time, that showing up would only put her in danger. Four years of convincing myself that staying gone was the same thing as keeping her safe.Tonight I’d finally decided it wasn’t.I checked my phone one more time, rehearsing what I was going to say. Something simple. Something that wouldn’t scare her off before she even understood who I was. “Sienna, I know this is going to sound insane, but I need you to hear me out.” That was as far as I’d gotten in four hours of practicing.I took a step toward the entrance, and that’s when the black SUV pulled up across the street.I froze instinctively, years of habit kicking in before my brain even caught up. Two men got out, both dressed like they were trying too hard to look casual, both scanning the street the way people do when they’re

Roman’s Pov I waited until the office emptied out before I went looking for answers about Cole.Nobody talked about my brother anymore. It had been three months since he vanished, and the official story was that he’d taken a leave of absence to clear his head. I never believed that, not for one second, because Cole didn’t take breaks. He barely took weekends.I sat down at the security terminal in the server room and started pulling files from the week he disappeared. Camera footage, badge access logs, anything that could tell me where he went and why. Most of it was gone.I checked the dates again, thinking I’d made a mistake. I hadn’t. The footage from three days before Cole vanished had been deleted, along with two days after. Someone had gone in and wiped it clean, then covered the gap so it wouldn’t look obvious unless you were specifically looking for it.I sat there for a long moment, just staring at the empty folders.“Who has access to this?” I muttered to myself.I pulled u

Sienna’s PovRoman called me into his office at eight in the morning, and I thought he was going to fire me.“Sienna, get your coat,” he said instead. “You’re coming with me.”“Coming with you where?”“The investor meeting. The one for the Hartley project. You’re the only person who actually knows what happened with the delay, so you’re going to explain it to them instead of me guessing.”I stared at him. Roman Calloway didn’t ask people to come with him anywhere. He gave orders and expected them followed.“You want me in the room with investors?”“I want the truth in the room with investors. You’re the truth. Now grab your coat, we’re already late.”I grabbed my coat. The car ride was silent except for him typing on his phone, jaw tight, eyes tired in a way I hadn’t noticed before. I always thought Roman looked exhausted because he was bored with everyone around him. Now I wondered if it was something else.“You okay?” I asked. He looked up, surprised. “Why do you ask that?”“Because

Cole’s PovI arrived outside The Grand Monarch almost twenty minutes before Sienna did.The truck was parked across the street beneath the shade of a large oak tree, far enough away that nobody would pay attention to it but close enough for me to keep the restaurant entrance in clear view.I hated that Eleanor had reached her first. Nate had warned me she was moving, and Victor had started digging. Nothing about this meeting was a coincidence.I leaned back in my seat and checked my watch for what had to be the fiftieth time. One hour passed, then another, before the restaurant doors finally opened.Sienna stepped outside first. She wasn’t crying, and she wasn’t angry, she simply looked lost, the kind of lost that came after hearing something capable of changing the way you saw your entire life. She stood motionless on the sidewalk with an envelope clutched tightly against her chest while my mother’s car disappeared into traffic.I watched her remain there for several seconds before s

  • The Wrong Mr Calloway    Chapter Seven

Sienna’s PovFor several long seconds, neither of us spoke.I remained standing beside the chair while Eleanor Calloway watched me with a level of composure that somehow made me even more nervous than anger would have. She looked exactly the way every magazine described her, elegant, perfectly dressed, and completely in control. Even the way she held her teacup seemed like she practiced over and over. She finally smiled.“Please.”She gestured toward the empty chair opposite her.“I don’t enjoy speaking to people while they’re standing.”I hesitated before slowly sitting down. The chair suddenly felt much smaller than it actually was.A waiter appeared almost immediately.“Would you like something to drink, Miss Vale?”“I’ll just have water, thank you.”He nodded politely before disappearing again.Eleanor waited until he was gone before speaking.“I appreciate you coming.”I blinked. That wasn’t what I had expected.“I wasn’t sure I had much of a choice.”“You always have a choice,”

Sienna’s Pov The afternoon sun hung low outside the glass walls of Calloway Industries, but I barely noticed it because every sound around me had faded beneath the pounding of my own heartbeat.I was still standing outside the building with my phone pressed tightly against my ear.The silence on the other end lasted only a few seconds, but it felt endless. Finally, I forced myself to speak.“…My daughter?”“Yes.”The woman didn’t hesitate.“I believe we should have a conversation about her.”Every instinct inside me screamed that I should hang up.Instead, I swallowed hard.“I think you’ve made a mistake.”“I rarely do.”Her voice was calm, polished, and completely emotionless.“I know exactly who you are, Miss Vale.”My fingers tightened around the phone.“I don’t understand.”“You don’t need to understand over the phone.”Her tone never changed.“We will discuss everything tomorrow.”“No.”The word escaped before I could stop it.“I’m not meeting a stranger.”A soft laugh came thro
