Chapter 17

Watching Ye Shaotang leave, Xu Yi suddenly understood that she was not An Xin now. She could not seek justice for Xu Yi as she did before.

But should she watch the gentle and kind Xu Yi gradually disappear from everyone’s eyes and memories?

An Xi still had her funeral, despite her soul was alive.

But what about Xu Yi?

Xu Yi’s soul was gone. The person alive now was An Xin.

If she did not mention the amiable Xu Yi from time to time, perhaps people would start to forget about her.

When she thought about the times they were close to each other, Xu Yi’s tears started to fall uncontrollably.

She crouched on the floor and sobbed in silence while hugging her shoulders.

Ye Shaotang turned around because he had not heard Xu Yi in a while, wondering what she was up to if she did not leave or make any noises. He did not expect to see Xu Yi crouching on the floor sobbing uncontrollably.

Ye Shaotang had seen Xu Yi cried before, but those were silent tears that one would not feel sad for. It was as if she was using her tears as a weapon to force people to comply with her requests.

But now, the sadness coming from Xu Yi surprised Ye Shaotang.

If there was something that the current Xu Yi was sad about, then it must be because of An Xin.

When he thought of his beloved woman lying in the ice-cold morgue, Ye Shaotang’s heart felt like it was in a meat grinder. Watching Xu Yi, he could feel the pain like it was his own.

“The dead’s already gone. The people that are alive have to go on. Don’t be too upset.” Ye Shaotang stood in front of Xu Yi unprecedentedly and helped Xu Yi up. There was a hint of sadness in his face.

Xu Yi was still immersed in her own emotions. She pushed Ye Shaotang away. Her face was twisted in anger and she said coldly to Ye Shaotang, “Don’t be too sad, huh? Ye Shaotang, do you even have the ability to feel sad? Will you be sad if Xu Yi dies?”

Seeing Xu Yi’s eyes red from crying, Ye Shaotang could not register what she asked, but in the very next second, he understood her question and his heartbeat started racing.

Has this woman found out about his feelings toward An Xin?

Otherwise, she would not have spewed such nonsense.

Ye Shaotang felt like someone had pried into his heart for his deepest secret. Feeling the rage and shame bubbling inside him, he burst out to Xu Yin a cold voice, “Are you crazy? Your best friend An Xin is dead. I feel your pain, that’s why I am sad. Why? Is this how you plan to make something out of nothing?”

Xu Yi was dumbstruck. That’s right. She was Xu Yi now, not An Xin.

Even though An Xin’s soul was alive, Xu Yi’s soul was dead. However, this was a secret that Xu Yi did not dare to say it out loud.

Since this was all so strange and she still had a lot of things to do, she could not afford to get herself locked up in the mental hospital like some sort of monster. Other than that, she would not get caught by those sanctimonious researchers so that they could experiment on her.

As Xu Yi warned herself to control her emotions, Ye Shaotang looked extremely impatient. His face was dark when he chuckled coldly, “As for your question just now, since you asked, then I will answer you. If you die, I will go out and party for three days and three nights. I will pop champagnes to celebrate. I will not feel sad at all! Are you satisfied with this answer?”

Xu Yi was trying to suppress her emotions before, but now, she could not control herself anymore. She roared at Ye Shaotang like a lioness, “Ye Shaotang, how can you say this kind of thing? Are you even human? Do you think you’re fit to be a functioning member of society when you’re acting like this? I feel so disgusted for you. I’m so disgusted!”
