Chapter 002
Esther's POV “How could you believe I did this, Michael?” I asked, my voice breaking. “I'm telling you someone is trying to manipulate me. Look closely, this picture is manipulated,” I said, trying to make him understand, although I knew no matter how I tried to convince him he would not believe a single word coming from my mouth because of the clear evidence in my hands. But I won't give up without trying my best. “What the fuck are you talking about, you whore? Are you blind…? Oh I see, you think you can convince me? That's not going to happen” he said, his eyes filled with so much anger. Maya emerged from the bathroom well-dressed like nothing had happened with a victorious smile on her face. “How could you do that to Michael, you know how…” before she could complete her sentence, I took a short step towards her and a resounding slap rang across the office. She quickly placed her hand on her cheek. “Did you just slap me?” she asked in shock. “Next time I'm talking to my husband you dare not to interfere,” I replied, looking into her eyes with my teary eyes. I could believe the woman I trusted wholeheartedly did this to me. “Why the fuck did you slap her?” Michael asked angrily. “And don't dare call me your husband again, I'm filing for a divorce,” he added, as he rolled his eyes. “This isn't me Michael, this is all lies! This picture was forged, please believe me,” I pleaded, desperately trying to make him believe me. “I have had enough of your nonsense. Get out of my office now!” he ordered angrily. “Please yo….” “ I say now!” he shouted. I trusted michael. I married him against my parents' wish and heartbreak is what I received from him in return? “I'm pregnant,” I shouted at the top of my voice. “Then abortion the bastard, or go and tell the man you were fucking behind my back, but not me!” Michael replied venomly. Before I could open my mouth to speak, he held my wrist in a tight grip as he dragged me out of his office, shutting the door right in my face. Tears streamed down my face. Did he just call our unborn child a bastard? Our unborn child? My whole world came crashing down right in front of me, and it seemed there was nothing I could do about it. I sniffed before turning to get out of the company, then I zoomed my car off home. A wave of relief washed over me when I saw Michael's parents' car in our house. I packed and ran inside. “ohh what happened sweetie, what's wrong?” Mrs, flora, Michael's mother said as she wrapped me around her arms. I swallowed the lump in my throat. “Micheal accused me of cheating, and he wants a divorce,” I said with my hoarse voice. “It's alright Esther, stop crying, is that why he called me to your house?” Mrs Flora asked. “Did he call you? I wasn't aware he called you,” I replied surprisingly. “Yes, he told me that there was an important matter we needed to discuss,” Mrs Flora said. I wiped my face and tried not to show my weakness. Mrs Flora gestured me in. “I'm pregnant, and Michael told me to abort it,” I managed to inform her, the words leaving a bitter taste in my mouth. “Oh my god, come on, this is a cause for celebration. Forget about Michael, I'll handle him,” she said happily as she stood up and got a bottle of wine for us. “Oh, I'm so excited that I'm going to be a grandmother soon,” she said. I force a smile on my face. My heart kept pounding, hoping her heart wouldn't be poisoned by this fake evidence. My heart gave me the jump of my life when I heard Michael's car screeching in the backyard. Mrs flora stood up and welcomed Michael with a resounding slap, which made the living room quiet for a while. The only sounds heard were those of the birds coming from the garden. “Are you fucking mad? Are you insane? Why would you think of divorcing Esther,” Mrs Flora spat. Without saying a word, Michael took out the pictures from his briefcase and handed them over to Mrs flora. She collected it and glanced at it. “Who am I seeing like you, Esther?” She asked, confused and shocked. “Believe me, Mrs Flora, I swear I'm not the person in that picture. You know I would never have cheated on your son, I was framed and blackmailed,” I explained. I knew then that nothing I would say would change her mind. “Enough with all this nonsense,” Mrs Flora spat. I couldn't believe the woman I took as my second mother was also falling for this. I was rendered speechless. Waves of humiliation ran through my veins. I was shattered, disappointed and heartbroken. “I never expected this from you, Esther, I trusted you, I took you as my daughter. Why would you do such a thing to your own husband,” she said in anger and frustration. “Please…” I choked, tears streamed down my eyes, humiliation running through me. I looked into her eyes. All I could see was hatred and anger, that made my heart clenched painfully. I couldn't believe Mrs Flora saw me as a cheat and a liar. I swallowed the huge sob that was about to rip from my lips. “You are leaving this house now, you are not welcome here, and you will never be welcome,” Mrs Flora said, avoiding eye contact with me. “ehn before you leave her are the divorce papers, sign them,” Michael said as he stretched to pass me the divorce papers. I couldn't believe this day would ever come in my life. I couldn't believe I could ever see divorce papers in my head, let alone sign them. I couldn't believe I would ever divorce the love of my life, the father of my unborn child. The pain was unbearable, my chest was tight and painful, I couldn't hold the sob anymore.Chapter 042John's POV I watched as Esther ran to the car, her fragile figure trembling. I can see the pain in her eyes and soul. That ex-husband of hers really dealt with her. He made her life miserable and I would be by Esther's side every step of her avenge. She was my wife, and it hurts me to see her pale. Without even sparing a glance at the doctor, I stormed out of his office, straight to the car. Esther was already in the car, her head low, lost in thought. “Hey!” I whispered, placing a hand on my lap. She sniffed, whipping off her tears before glancing at me. “John, I need to destroy Michael, but I can't do that without your help. I can't make any move without your help. The help I need from you is to uplift my company. I want to be a well-known CEO, a very influential one, please,” she said with her trembling lips. She made a very big request and I couldn't say ‘no’ to her. I guess it would be better for me to seek something in return. I cleared my throat. “Well, I am
Chapter 041Esther's POV I opened my eyes slowly as the bright sun rays projected at my face. I blinked repeatedly, trying to get accustomed to the light. I had anticipated the day all night because it was the day I wanted to go to the hospital and demand an answer about why the doctor lied to me. The answer I wasn't sure if I wanted to hear or not. Looking at the other side of the bed, John was already awake, he was not in the room. Still groggy from sleep, I forced myself up and headed to the bathroom. I took my bath and got dressed before heading downstairs. Each step echoed through the silent house as I made my way to the dining room.“Good morning ma'am,” the maid greeted, breaking the silence. His head bowed low as she placed the tray in her hands on the table.“Morning, Is my husband out?” “No ma'am, he is in the living room,” she replied. I nodded stiffly before heading to the living room. My hand tightened around the knob, and with a deep breath I turned it. The door swun
Chapter 040John's POV “John, who really is Jessica to you?” Esther asked. The silence that followed the room was almost defeating. I felt a storm of emotion. I slowly raised my head and my eyes met hers. I saw something in her, I couldn't quite place, perhaps confusion and jealousy. “I'm so sorry you have to experience this,” I said quietly. “Well, to be honest, Jessica and I dated back then in college. She left me for a guy who is rich, leaving me heartbroken and devastated. Since then, I have considered her as just a friend,” I said, looking into her eyes, hoping she could see the sincerity in me. “Look, Esther, there is nothing between us, I promise. I was just trying to help her,” I added. Esther nodded before placing a hand on my cheek, sending shivers down my spine. “I know the man I'm married to. I believe you,” she plastered a cute smile on her face. A wave of relief washed over me. Thankfully, Esther was an understanding person. My mind was crowded with thoughts tryi
Chapter 039Esther's POV The house was quiet as I slowly woke up, the soft hum of the morning light filtering through the curtains. I noticed the other side of the bed was empty and showed no signs of John. My heart skipped to beat as different wild thoughts ran through my head. The silence of the atmosphere was interrupted by a burst of laughter. I frowned as I slipped out of bed and followed the sound. The laughter grew louder and mingled with the clinking of dishes. Pushing open the kitchen door, I met a scene that stung more than a knife to the heart. John and an unknown woman standing at the counter had their movements in perfect harmony as if they had practiced this routine a thousand times. The woman leaned closer to John, her hands pushing him as they worked together.I had no idea who that woman was, but I didn't think she was his relative. John, who always seemed so reserved, was laughing at the jokes the woman was cracking. His laughter was so rich and genuine, a sound
Chapter 038Esther's POV John helped me get seated in the car as I was still in shock about my pregnancy. It felt like a dream. I had been trying to puzzle out what was happening to me. Is it that the doctor who attended to me during my accident wasn't professional, or I was really not pregnant? It's just some misunderstanding. I turned and looked at John who was seated beside me, buried in thought. The silence in the atmosphere was too thick to cut with a knife.‘Do you love me?’ These words echoed in my ears like a thunderstorm. I wasn't sure if I could answer that question so far, since after our marriage John had been considerate to me in every way. I thought these three words “I love you” were not that important and our marriage was still happy without them. I gently place my hand on my belly, emotionally feeling my child inside of me. I wasn't really sure if I was pregnant or not, but, yes! It felt real. All of a sudden, the car came to a halt, bringing me back to life. As
Chapter 037John's POV Reaching the ward, Esther was already asleep; the soft click from the door made her open her eyes slowly. I walked towards her, wearing a smile on my face. “Hey, little doll,” I whispered. She stretched her hand to hold mine, demanding that I sit close to her. “Hey John, welcome back. How did it go?” she asked. “Ah… It was superb, a company was demanding collaboration with us, that's all,” I said. “Uhm… Actually, I'm still in the dark about what you said earlier, regarding your pregnancy,” I added, trying to bring back the conversation. She rolled her eyes before letting out a heavy sigh which made my heart sink. My gaze fixed on her lips impatiently waiting for her to explain. She adjusted a bit before clearing her throat. “It has been years since I divorced my husband, but the memory still remains fresh every fucking day, as if it just happened yesterday. The day I divorced my husband, I was involved in a car accident, and I was a few weeks pregnant…”
