Alessia had her breath caught in her throat as she braked violently in front of Benjamim’s house, nearly causing an accident. But her heart wasn’t racing uncontrollably because of that, but because she had reached her destination and needed to uncover the truth once and for all.

She stayed in the car for a few minutes, calming down and formulating the best way she could to find out if that boy was really Benjamim’s son.

And if he was, he could never know the truth.

Alessia needed a brilliant idea to get Antonella out-of-town once and for all. She got out of the car with shaky legs and had to remove her heels to regain her balance. She walked, feeling her feet ache as they stepped on the stones scattered across the asphalt. Not only that, but she lifted her head and saw that the house was dark.

She glanced at her wristwatch and realized it was nearing midnight. Alessia could simply give up, turn on her heels, go back to the car, and leave as if nothing had happened, but she couldn’t. H

Adam was sleeping in Antonella’s arms. His face was flushed with fever, while Antonella waited patiently for him to be seen. She didn’t notice when Dominique rushed in and sat in the only available seat, right behind her.“I need to tell you something,” she leaned in and whispered in Antonella’s ear.Antonella turned to look into her eyes, and from Dominique’s expression, the news didn’t seem good.“I saw Alessia outside, watching you and Adam.” Antonella’s face froze as Dominique’s words echoed in her ears. “She knows about Adam, or presumes she knows.”Antonella remained silent as her thoughts piled up in her mind, preventing her from thinking clearly. How did Alessia know she was at the hospital? Had Alessia followed her there? Or had Benjamim himself ordered her to be followed?“This was bound to happen eventually,” Antonella muttered. Her expression was blank as she looked outside the hospital, hoping to still see Alessia there. “I don’t know how much longer I can keep this secre

Benjamin stayed in the office for so long, analyzing each report, that when he finally left the building, he realized that Alessia had already gone. In fact, Antonella had been more than just efficient and quick—she had been brilliant. He grabbed his cell phone from the pocket of his jacket and dialed her number.Antonella’s contact was among his favorites, though not because he called her the most.He pursed his lips when he noticed that the phone was out of service. Antonella had certainly done this deliberately, so she wouldn’t be bothered by him. Then, he called Alessia, but she didn’t answer either. What was going on with the women in that family? With a heavy heart, he got into his car, determined to go home and rest.Alessia looked at her phone screen while Benjamin’s name flashed insistently. She never rejected his calls, especially after so many misunderstandings, with their relationship teetering on the edge of collapse. But she ignored it this time, and looking far ahead, s

Slow steps, and the sound of shoes hitting the floor, echoed through the empty rooms. Antonella could even hear Benjamin’s breathing as he approached, his eyes locked on hers. The food she had been chewing minutes earlier got stuck in her throat, and she urgently needed water. She stood up hastily and stumbled to the water dispenser. She didn’t see Dante get up to greet Benjamin with a sincere smile. When she returned to the table, Dante was explaining to Benjamin that he had come to say goodbye to Antonella because he was returning to the capital that very afternoon.“May he never set foot in this city again,” Benjamin thought with a serious expression as he looked at Antonella disapprovingly.“Let’s go to my office to talk a little,” Benjamin invited him with the sole intention of keeping Dante away from Antonella. He, too, was good at pretending to be friendly. The governor didn’t notice his intentions and, looking at Antonella, wanted to say goodbye, but the loud sound of the phon

Benjamim entered the office expecting Antonella, but she was taking too long. He grew impatient, and when he turned to go after her, he bumped into Antonella. He was too close. Her face turned red, and he lowered all his guards. Realizing what was happening, Antonella took a step back and moved away from Benjamim, lowering her head afterward. He tried to imagine what she was thinking. He kept watching her without realizing how much time had passed. When Antonella felt embarrassed by the silence, she looked at him and then said:“Are you going to tell me what you want with me?” Her words brought him back to reality, and he dressed himself again in his armor. “You said you had a job for me.”“I want to know why you left yesterday without my permission.”Thinking about everything that had happened the night before, she immediately grew worried. Now, standing in front of him, Antonella was ashamed but pretended to be calm.“I apologize for my mistake.” Benjamim raised his eyebrows and loo

Benjamim held the phone in his hand as his blood boiled in his veins. How dare Antonella hang up without letting him finish speaking? That woman was driving him mad.Without hesitation, he walked quickly as soon as he saw Dante enter through the door, looking carefree as if nothing had happened. He knew he needed to moderate his words since Dante was the governor of the state, and Benjamim was close to sealing a deal with him that would benefit everyone. He approached with a smile, like a viper ready to strike, and asked:“I searched for Antonella everywhere in this house,” he glanced around, “and they told me she left with you. What happened, Dante?”Dante looked at him a little confused; after all, he couldn’t explain the reasons that made Antonella leave suddenly.“She rushed out, saying she needed to go,” he said, and a wrinkle of concern formed on Benjamim’s forehead, “but I don’t know the reasons. I just drove her home and left without demanding any explanation.”Benjamim didn’t
