The rain battered against the glass of Sheba’s car, blurred streaks of red and white taillights bleeding into the darkness . She sat in the driver’s seat three blocks away from the house, her fingers gripped so tightly around the steering wheel that her knuckles were bone-white . Her hip throbbed with a dull, sickening ache where she had hit the vanity, but the physical pain felt entirely distant, eclipsed by the suffocating weight in her chest .

She stared into the rearview mirror . Her eyes were bloodshot, swollen, and red . Rain and dried tears had smeared across her face, and her dark hair clung in damp clumps to her forehead .

“A pathetic, fat whale surrounded by literal trash”

Mira’s voice echoed in her mind, sharp and ringing . It wasn't the first time Sheba had heard those words . They were simply the latest addition to an endless, cruel soundtrack that had played in the background of her entire life .

She leaned her head back against the headrest, closing her eyes, and let the flood of memories pull her under .

Sheba had learned very early in life that her body was considered a crime .

At twelve years old, while other girls were effortlessly gliding into delicate summer dresses, Sheba was already standing half a head taller and significantly broader than her classmates . She remembered her middle school cafeteria with terrifying claritythe metallic smell of trays, the clatter of silverware, and the sudden, mocking silence that fell over the table whenever she sat down .

"Careful, don't break the bench, Sheba !" a boy named Marcus had yelled across the room one afternoon, drawing loud, raucous laughter from the entire soccer team .

Sheba had frozen, her hand hovering over her brown-bag lunch, her face burning so hot she thought her skin would melt . She had looked down at her lap, pulling her sweater tight around her knees, wishing with every fiber of her being that she could simply vanish into the floorboards .

No one had defended her . The girls who sat near her simply scooted their chairs a few inches away, non-verbally signaling that they had no association with the oversized girl at the end of the table .

That was the year Sheba learned to eat in the library bathroom . She would sit on the cold tile floor, chewing her sandwich in absolute silence, listening to the muffled sounds of normal teenagers laughing in the hallway outside .

High school had been no kinder . While her peers went to school dances, traded hoodies with boys, and got asked out on Friday nights, Sheba was the designated wallflower . She became the girl boys approached only as a joke—a dare passed around in locker rooms to see who was brave enough to pretend to ask the heavy girl to homecoming .

When she was sixteen, a boy named David had spent three weeks being extraordinarily sweet to her in chemistry class . He had complimented her intelligence, sat beside her during labs, and laughed at her quiet jokes . For twenty-one days, Sheba had allowed herself to believe a miracle was happening . She had spent hours in her bedroom trying on outfits, wondering if maybe, just maybe, someone finally saw her .

Then came the Friday afternoon before spring break . David had approached her locker, a group of his friends hovering at the end of the hall, muffling their laughter behind their hands .

"Hey, Sheba," David had said, offering her a sweet, boyish smile . "I was wondering if you'd go to the movies with me tonight ?"

Sheba’s heart had leaped into her throat . "Really ?" she had whispered, her voice trembling with genuine, fragile hope .

David had stared at her for two long seconds before bursting into a harsh, mocking laugh . He turned back to his friends, shouting over his shoulder, "I told you guys she’d believe it! Look at her face! She actually thought I’d take her out!"

The hallway had erupted into laughter . Sheba had closed her locker, walked directly out the front doors of the school, and walked three miles home in the freezing rain .

That was the night Mira had come over .

Mira had been the slim, gorgeous neighbor who lived two doors down . She had sat on the edge of Sheba’s bed, hugging her tight, wiping away her tears with gentle fingers .

"They're just stupid boys, Sheba," Mira had whispered sweetly, stroking Sheba’s hair . "You don't need them . You have me . You're so smart, and intelligence lasts forever . Beauty is just shallow anyway ."

At sixteen, Sheba had looked at Mira through tear-stained eyes and felt an overwhelming wave of gratitude . She had believed Mira was her savior, the one person who saw past her size and loved her for who she was . She hadn't realized that Mira was already carefully constructing a dynamic positioning herself as the stunning, desirable princess, and keeping Sheba as her loyal, insecure shadow .

Sheba opened her eyes in the dark, quiet space of her car, the memory burning out like a cold cinder .

All her life, she had been the girl nobody chose . She was the girl people used for homework, the girl people called when they needed help with their taxes, the girl people tolerated because she was convenient, quiet, and eager to please .

When Adrian had entered her life three years ago, offering her sweet compliments and holding her hand in private, she had thought the curse was finally broken . She had believed she had finally been chosen .

She looked down at her hands on the steering wheel heavy, broad, and strong .

A slow, bitter breath escaped her lips . She wiped the remaining tears from her face with the sleeve of her sweater . The grief was still there, vast and deep, but beneath it, a quiet, icy resolve was beginning to form .

She turned the key in the ignition . The engine roared to life, casting a bright amber light across the rain-swept windshield . Sheba shifted the car into drive and pulled away from the curb, leaving Adrian, Mira, and twenty-eight years of begging to be loved firmly in her rearview mirror .

Sheba ~ I reached down, grabbed the heavy metal umbrella, stowed it neatly in the door pocket, and I locked my jaw. If they thought I was going to sit here quietly while they fought my war, they had another thing coming. The security lock on the Maybach door clicked silently, an electronic whisper that felt entirely too quiet against the roar of the rain outside. Through the thick glass, I watched damien standing mere feet away from Adrian, his posture radiating a dangerous, controlled fury. Adrian looked entirely too comfortable surrounded by his armed thugs, flashing that smug, condescending grin that made my blood run hot. He thought he had us cornered. He thought he could walk onto this property, insult me, and walk away like a conqueror. He had no idea what kind of storm he had just stepped into. Before Julian voice could crackle through the radio earpiece to stop me again, I pushed the door open. The cold, driving rain hit my face instantly, soaking through my hair and pl

Sheba ~ The sound of Adrian cruel laughter echoed off the wet stone walls of the courtyard, but the words he had just thrown at me kept bouncing around inside my skull like a broken record. Soft. Bloated. Worthless. A liability. They dug deep under my skin, twisting around my heart until I felt completely naked and pathetic sitting there in the dark of the car. My fingers dug so hard into my palms that my fingernails bit sharply into my skin, but I barely even felt the pain over the roar of blood in my ears. Every single insecurity I had tried to bury under oversized coats and late night work sessions was suddenly dragged out into the open for a room full of armed thugs to mock. I hated him for it. I hated the way he smiled while he tore me apart, weaponizing my stress and my exhaustion like it was a game. Outside, damien didn't flinch at Adrian cheap insults, but a dark, murderous shadow crossed his face. He didn't waste breath defending me against Adrian trash talk because he didn

Sheba ~The blinding high beams sliced right through the tinted windows of the Maybach, turning the rain-soaked glass into a wall of glaring white. I threw my hands up to block the light, my heart pounding against my ribs like crazy. The sudden appearance of that unmarked SUV completely wrecked the quiet vibe of the courtyard, turning the whole place into a total war zone in seconds.Outside, the guys didn't waste any time. Julian spun around instantly, his hand diving under his jacket straight toward the gun he kept hidden in his holster. But Damien didn't reach for a weapon at all. He just stood there, his eyes locked dead on the doors of the SUV that had just blocked us in. His jaw was clenched so tight I could see the muscles twitching under his skin. That cold, untouchable attitude he had inside the car was totally gone, replaced by a dark, dangerous anger. Before either of them could pull a weapon or take a step forward, all four doors of the SUV flew open at the exact same time

  • The plus size girl: The mafia secret    Chapter 8 - The Shadow Over The Table

The tinted windows of the Maybach felt less like a shield and more like a cage. Outside, the steady drizzle of rain blurred the neon lights of the city into bleeding streaks of red and gold, but inside, the air was entirely stagnant. Sheba sat rigid against the plush leather seat, her fingers instinctively curling into the fabric of her coat. She hated the sterile, high-tech jargon Damien and Julian tossed back and forth, the way every sentence sounded like code from a cheap spy thriller. It made her stomach churn, stripping away her humanity until she felt less like a woman seeking justice and more like a pawn on a cold, calculating chessboard. Damien caught the subtle shift in her posture. He noticed the way her shoulders tensed, the faint tremor in her hands as she pulled the tablet into her lap, trying to distance herself from the glowing blue interface that had just triggered a localized alert. "Put that away, Sheba," Damien said. His voice was flat, devoid of any warmth or

The interior of the Maybach was suffocatingly warm compared to the biting rain outside, filled with the soft, high-end smell of rich leather and cedarwood. Sheba sat squeezed into the far corner of the plush back seat, clutching her damp coat around her knees. Her body wouldn't stop trembling, a violent vibration running from her core all the way to her fingertips. In the front seat, the driver pulled off his leather driving gloves and turned around with a bright, easy smile that practically cut through the tension in the car. "Hey, easy there," he said, his voice warm and full of life. "I’m Julian. Don't mind the big brooding statue sitting next to you. He looks like he bites, but I promise he’s mostly just bad for people's blood pressure." Sheba flinched slightly at the sudden friendliness, her wide brown eyes darting from Julian to the man sitting beside her. Damien didn't even blink. He didn't smile, nor did he offer a single shred of warmth. He sat in complete, rigid silence

The red text flashed across her monitor like an open wound in the dark room, the numbers of the digital countdown burning into her retinas. **SYSTEM DELETION PROTOCOL COMMENCED IN 00:04:59...** A cold, sickening weight dropped into the pit of Sheba’s stomach. Her heart hammered against her ribs, each strike sounding like thunder in her ears. “He’s doing it now” she thought, her breath catching in her throat as tears of pure betrayal threatened to spill over her lower lashes. Marcus wasn't even waiting for the morning light to erase her. He was downstairs in his grand study, sipping his whiskey, casually pressing a button to wipe out six months of her life, her sleep, her sweat, her blood, as if she were nothing more than a temporary glitch in his grand plan. Her hands trembled violently as she reached for the keyboard. For a fraction of a second, the familiar, suffocating voice of her mother echoed in the back of her mind, “You are nothing without this family, Sheba. You are wea
