Vera woke up feeling hollow inside. She winced as a wave of soul-cursing pain went through her belly. Last night after leaving the house and Vera, Fred went back to Tory, and they had séx all night. Vera stroked the skin on her stomach while clenching her jaw tightly.

“I will make you both pay for everything, Fred. For every little pain I felt.”

Vera got out of bed and took a bath. She fixed herself a light breakfast and called Beta Dorn. Although his intentions were visible, she wasn't going to let anyone stop her from calling the council.

The call didn't connect the first time so she tried again, her irritation growing. She felt like he was ignoring her fall on purpose. Beta Dorn didn't want her to leave.
