Chapter 2

Author: Idle Breeze
Growing up, I had only ever seen others kneel and beg for my forgiveness.

The last person who dared speak to me like that… the grass on their grave was already two meters tall.

I stepped forward and slapped Queenie across the face.

Her head snapped to the side, her eyes widening in shock.

"You dare hit me?!"

Clutching her cheek, she immediately pointed at me and ordered several housemaids to charge at me.

A faint smile curved my lips.

When I first left for overseas, my grandfather had worried that I might be bullied as a girl living alone. So, he personally taught me Sanda.

These were just a few stronger housemaids.

A few quick punches later, I had them spinning in confusion.

"Pathetic."

I rubbed my slightly numb knuckles and turned to leave, ignoring Queenie's furious screams behind me.

Suddenly, one of the maids shouted, "Master Lucas is back!"

I looked up.

A man in a sharply tailored suit was striding toward us with a cold expression.

The moment Queenie saw him, the vicious look on her face vanished. In its place appeared a pitiful, delicate expression.

She rushed into Lucas's arms.

"Lucas! You're finally back! I've been bullied so badly!"

To be honest, Lucas was indeed handsome—good-looking enough to carve out a place in the entertainment industry if he wanted.

Unfortunately, despite knowing he had a marriage arrangement with me, he held his childhood sweetheart in his arms, his face full of concern.

I clicked my tongue.

Looks like I'd have to call Grandpa and go home. There was absolutely no way this marriage was happening.

Ignoring their lovey-dovey reunion, I walked straight toward the garden exit.

"Stop right there. You think you can hurt Queenie and just leave?"

Lucas didn't even glance at me. He kept his head lowered, gently wiping the tears from Queenie's face.

Several bodyguards quickly stepped forward from behind him, blocking my path.

I took a deep breath, trying to remain patient, then turned to look at him.

"Lucas, my grandfather is currently in your grandfather's study discussing our engagement. If they find out about this… it won't look very good."

At the mention of Lucas's grandfather, the maids' expressions shifted slightly.

"What? Could she really be Master Lucas's fiancée?"

"Who cares about some fiancée? Look how protective Master Lucas is of Miss Hartley. Who knows if that marriage will even happen?"

"Exactly. We'd better not say anything that might offend Miss Hartley. With her temper, we'll suffer later if we do."

When Lucas heard the words engagement, his expression darkened even more.

"What arranged marriage? I never agreed to that. Besides, my grandfather has always adored me. There's no way he'd make me marry some crazed girl who appeared out of nowhere."

Queenie lifted her head from his arms and looked at me smugly.

"Lucas and I grew up together. And a thief like you still dares to covet the position of Mrs. Hunt?"

I nodded.

Perfect. This scumbag and this scheming woman were made for each other. Let them stay locked together forever—just don't come out and ruin other people's lives.

Still, Grandpa had once told me that among all the families who had proposed marriage back then, the Hunt family had been the most sincere and persistent.

I had met Lucas's grandfather a few times. He was a kind and respectable elder.

If he found out that the marriage alliance he had worked so hard to secure had been ruined by his own grandson… it would probably cause a storm in the Hunt household.

But there was no helping it.

Even the strongest oak can grow a twisted branch.

It was already late by the time Grandpa and I returned home.Still worried, he had the family doctor perform another full-body examination on me. Even a psychologist had already been waiting at home in case I needed one.Later, as I carried a cup of warm milk toward Grandpa's room, I saw through the slightly open door that his deeply lined face was streaked with tears."I'm sorry… I failed you…" he murmured hoarsely. "Today I almost let Sabrina be…"If anything had happened to her, I wouldn't have wanted to live either… our whole family would just go reunite over there…"His aged voice was filled with endless guilt.I pushed the door open and quietly sat beside him."Grandpa, it's all over now. Aren't I perfectly fine now?"My parents' deaths had left a shadow too deep for either of us to escape. I didn't dare imagine what Grandpa might have done if something had truly happened to me today. He gently stroked my hand."Sabrina, I didn't protect you well enough. Tell me… when I

"Dad! Who exactly are they?! Why are you—"Before Lucas could finish, his father slapped the back of his head."I told you long ago not to be so arrogant!" Wyatt snapped. "Matthew is someone even more formidable than your grandfather! Now that you've committed such a grave mistake, the only way you'll be spared is if Sabrina forgives you!"Grandpa's identity was something only the older generation truly knew about. Wyatt had grown up hearing Nathan repeatedly warn him: Never provoke the Pierce family, or the consequences will be unimaginable. But after my parents died, the Pierce family gradually disappeared from public view. Wyatt never passed those warnings down to the younger generation. That was how Lucas and Queenie had grown so arrogant—almost causing a disaster of unimaginable scale.Seeing the elders he respected now bowing their heads to me, Lucas's earlier disbelief turned into fear."Sabrina! I—I was misled by Queenie earlier! That's why I didn't recognize who you were

Nathan immediately realized how serious the situation was. His tone in the phone turned humble at once as he began apologizing profusely."Matthew, I'm terribly sorry—truly sorry. Please don't be angry; it's not good for your health. I'll come over right away and deal with that brat!"Lucas had never seen his usually imposing grandfather speak in such a submissive tone. He opened his mouth to say something, but the call had already ended."Old bastard!" he shouted angrily. "You must've found someone to pretend to be my grandfather! You're just trying to scare me!"I'm telling you—I won't fall for your trick!"You and that jinx will never step foot into the Hunt family in this lifetime!"Grandpa's grip on my hand tightened, and a fierce killing intent radiated from him.I couldn't help letting out a soft groan. The finger Queenie had injured earlier had soaked in water and was already swollen, red, and throbbing with pain.Grandpa immediately called for a helicopter to bring the

The Hunt family servants immediately began whispering among themselves again."Has that old man lived too long? Does he even realize the grave he's dug for himself?""Honestly, why won't these people listen to reason? Now they've ruined the marriage alliance with the Hunt family. The Pierce family is going to suffer for this.""Exactly. Master Lucas is Master Wyatt's most beloved youngest son, and Miss Hartley is the cherished only daughter of the Hartley family."But Grandpa ignored them entirely. Instead, he had Lucas dragged in front of me."Sabrina," he said gently, "how did they bully you just now? Tell Grandpa. I'll settle the score for you."I glanced at the pond, which had been turned into a complete mess by Queenie and the servants.A faint smile curved my lips."Grandpa, have someone pull them out of the water first."Grandpa thought I was afraid of them and shot me a displeased look. But I gave him a reassuring glance.I was no saint.Queenie had already choked o

The moment I saw Grandpa, the will to live surged through me. It was as if strength suddenly flooded back into my body.I grabbed onto a floating plank from the canopy boat and cried out weakly, "Grandpa!"The bodyguards beside him immediately jumped into the water and pulled me ashore.Grandpa rushed over without caring that I was soaked from head to toe and pulled me tightly into his arms.Seeing the sheer number of bodyguards around him, the servants who had been watching couldn't help but step back in alarm."Whoa… why does this man have so many bodyguards? Who is he?""Could Miss Pierce really be the daughter of some low-profile wealthy family?""But this is the Hunt residence! No matter how powerful he is, he still has to respect the Hunt family, right?"As Queenie heard that, the slight frown on her face vanished instantly. She picked up Grandpa's cane and swung it toward us, only to be stopped by one of the bodyguards. In a fit of irritation, she turned and tossed the

Lucas let out a light laugh, his eyes filled with contempt, as if he were looking at a piece of trash."Who does your grandfather think he is? What right does he have to come after me?"The Pierce family only has you and that old man left, doesn't it?"You even managed to bring death to your own parents, and he still wants me to marry a woman as unlucky as you? What a joke."My pupils shrank suddenly. The words "brought death to your parents" stabbed into my heart like a dagger. On my eighth birthday, my parents had planned to take a cruise back from overseas to celebrate with me.But fate had other plans. That day, fierce winds suddenly rose over the sea. The captain of our family ship advised them to stay docked for a day before setting sail again. But I called them.Crying into the phone, I told them I missed them.So my parents gritted their teeth and decided to take a small boat back themselves.Just as they were about to reach the shore, a violent storm suddenly swept
