Chapter 3

Autor: Idle Breeze
I shook my head regretfully and was about to leave when Queenie suddenly shrieked, "Don't let her go! The ruby ring Lucas gave me is still on her hand!"

At her words, the bodyguards immediately moved under Lucas's signal and grabbed hold of me. Without another word, they began trying to take the ring off my finger.

But the ring had been specially adjusted to fit my size. No matter how hard they tried, it wouldn't budge.

"Queenie, if it's really your ring, why does it fit my finger perfectly?"

I looked at her with a teasing smile. Instead of answering, she grew even angrier and grabbed Lucas's arm, shaking it petulantly.

"It must be because she's fatter than me! She forced it on, that's why it won't come off!"

"Then use a power drill."

My expression changed instantly.

Damn. I hadn't brought any bodyguards with me today.

Lucas's guards were tall, strong, and far more numerous. I struggled for a while, but they quickly found an opening and forced me to the ground.

Queenie crouched down in front of me excitedly, her red nails digging into my chin.

"Still acting tough? Weren't you pretty arrogant just now?"

Then she slapped me as hard as she could. Grit scraped against my cheek as my face ground into the dirt, and several thin streaks of blood quickly appeared.

Lucas stared at me for two seconds, as if considering something, before curling his lips into a cold smile.

"Queenie, did your hand hurt from hitting her? Want to see something even more entertaining?"

Queenie's eyes lit up instantly.

"Tie her to the boat in the pond!"

My eyes widened as I looked at the faintly excited expression on Lucas's face.

Could it be… he knew something?

"No! You'll regret this!"

Queenie looked both scornful and thrilled.

"Regret? That word doesn't exist in my dictionary."

"On the contrary, today I'm going to make you regret ever taking my ring!"

The bodyguards dragged me toward the pond in the center of the garden.

They tied me up with thick rope and threw me onto a dilapidated old canopy boat rocking at the water's edge.

Before I could even open my eyes properly, they flipped me over.

Then a buzzing electric saw whirred to life and came straight for my finger.

The searing pain made me scream.

Soon, my blood began to stain the pigeon-blood ruby, giving it an eerie, sinister glow.

"Tsk, looks like another fool is about to die."

"She's such a pretty young girl, but she just had to be stubborn. Now look—Master Lucas won't let her off. At the very least, she'll lose a finger."

"This is too cruel. I can't even bear to watch."

The maids and servants chattered among themselves by the pond, whispering and gossiping.

But I could barely hear them anymore. The intense pain in my hand made me struggle wildly.

The small canopy boat was old and poorly maintained. Under my frantic movements, it rocked violently, bumping against the water with hollow thuds.

The scene suddenly mirrored the accident my parents had suffered at sea years ago.

The deep-seated fear buried in my heart was instantly dragged to the surface.

My face turned deathly pale. My hands moved uncontrollably, clutching my head as fresh blood ran down my cheeks.

"No! Stop! Let me get off—please!"

But Queenie and Lucas merely stood on the shore as if they were watching a show.

At one point, they even stretched out a foot and kicked the boat farther toward the center of the pond.

I forced my eyes open with difficulty and saw Queenie holding the ring triumphantly in her hand.

Lucas wrapped an arm around her shoulders and said gently, "This ring's stained with that filthy woman's blood. Just throw it away. I'll buy you a new one."

Then, amid my screams, they casually tossed the ring into the lake.

"Lucas! Aren't you afraid my grandfather will come after you for this?!"

It was already late by the time Grandpa and I returned home.Still worried, he had the family doctor perform another full-body examination on me. Even a psychologist had already been waiting at home in case I needed one.Later, as I carried a cup of warm milk toward Grandpa's room, I saw through the slightly open door that his deeply lined face was streaked with tears."I'm sorry… I failed you…" he murmured hoarsely. "Today I almost let Sabrina be…"If anything had happened to her, I wouldn't have wanted to live either… our whole family would just go reunite over there…"His aged voice was filled with endless guilt.I pushed the door open and quietly sat beside him."Grandpa, it's all over now. Aren't I perfectly fine now?"My parents' deaths had left a shadow too deep for either of us to escape. I didn't dare imagine what Grandpa might have done if something had truly happened to me today. He gently stroked my hand."Sabrina, I didn't protect you well enough. Tell me… when I

"Dad! Who exactly are they?! Why are you—"Before Lucas could finish, his father slapped the back of his head."I told you long ago not to be so arrogant!" Wyatt snapped. "Matthew is someone even more formidable than your grandfather! Now that you've committed such a grave mistake, the only way you'll be spared is if Sabrina forgives you!"Grandpa's identity was something only the older generation truly knew about. Wyatt had grown up hearing Nathan repeatedly warn him: Never provoke the Pierce family, or the consequences will be unimaginable. But after my parents died, the Pierce family gradually disappeared from public view. Wyatt never passed those warnings down to the younger generation. That was how Lucas and Queenie had grown so arrogant—almost causing a disaster of unimaginable scale.Seeing the elders he respected now bowing their heads to me, Lucas's earlier disbelief turned into fear."Sabrina! I—I was misled by Queenie earlier! That's why I didn't recognize who you were

Nathan immediately realized how serious the situation was. His tone in the phone turned humble at once as he began apologizing profusely."Matthew, I'm terribly sorry—truly sorry. Please don't be angry; it's not good for your health. I'll come over right away and deal with that brat!"Lucas had never seen his usually imposing grandfather speak in such a submissive tone. He opened his mouth to say something, but the call had already ended."Old bastard!" he shouted angrily. "You must've found someone to pretend to be my grandfather! You're just trying to scare me!"I'm telling you—I won't fall for your trick!"You and that jinx will never step foot into the Hunt family in this lifetime!"Grandpa's grip on my hand tightened, and a fierce killing intent radiated from him.I couldn't help letting out a soft groan. The finger Queenie had injured earlier had soaked in water and was already swollen, red, and throbbing with pain.Grandpa immediately called for a helicopter to bring the

The Hunt family servants immediately began whispering among themselves again."Has that old man lived too long? Does he even realize the grave he's dug for himself?""Honestly, why won't these people listen to reason? Now they've ruined the marriage alliance with the Hunt family. The Pierce family is going to suffer for this.""Exactly. Master Lucas is Master Wyatt's most beloved youngest son, and Miss Hartley is the cherished only daughter of the Hartley family."But Grandpa ignored them entirely. Instead, he had Lucas dragged in front of me."Sabrina," he said gently, "how did they bully you just now? Tell Grandpa. I'll settle the score for you."I glanced at the pond, which had been turned into a complete mess by Queenie and the servants.A faint smile curved my lips."Grandpa, have someone pull them out of the water first."Grandpa thought I was afraid of them and shot me a displeased look. But I gave him a reassuring glance.I was no saint.Queenie had already choked o

The moment I saw Grandpa, the will to live surged through me. It was as if strength suddenly flooded back into my body.I grabbed onto a floating plank from the canopy boat and cried out weakly, "Grandpa!"The bodyguards beside him immediately jumped into the water and pulled me ashore.Grandpa rushed over without caring that I was soaked from head to toe and pulled me tightly into his arms.Seeing the sheer number of bodyguards around him, the servants who had been watching couldn't help but step back in alarm."Whoa… why does this man have so many bodyguards? Who is he?""Could Miss Pierce really be the daughter of some low-profile wealthy family?""But this is the Hunt residence! No matter how powerful he is, he still has to respect the Hunt family, right?"As Queenie heard that, the slight frown on her face vanished instantly. She picked up Grandpa's cane and swung it toward us, only to be stopped by one of the bodyguards. In a fit of irritation, she turned and tossed the

Lucas let out a light laugh, his eyes filled with contempt, as if he were looking at a piece of trash."Who does your grandfather think he is? What right does he have to come after me?"The Pierce family only has you and that old man left, doesn't it?"You even managed to bring death to your own parents, and he still wants me to marry a woman as unlucky as you? What a joke."My pupils shrank suddenly. The words "brought death to your parents" stabbed into my heart like a dagger. On my eighth birthday, my parents had planned to take a cruise back from overseas to celebrate with me.But fate had other plans. That day, fierce winds suddenly rose over the sea. The captain of our family ship advised them to stay docked for a day before setting sail again. But I called them.Crying into the phone, I told them I missed them.So my parents gritted their teeth and decided to take a small boat back themselves.Just as they were about to reach the shore, a violent storm suddenly swept
