To my surprise, the notification "Message Failed to Send" popped up.

I let out an incredulous laugh. The engagement hadn't even been finalized yet, and Lucas Hunt had already blocked me.

"Where did you sneak in from? Hurry up and return Miss Hartley's ring!"

The Hunt family's housekeeper lunged at me aggressively, but I sidestepped her with ease.

"I'm a guest of the Hunt family. Is this how you treat your guests?"

Queenie Hartley let out a mocking laugh. Without hesitation, she picked up her phone and called Lucas—my so-called fiancé.

A warm, gentle voice answered almost immediately.

"What's wrong, Queenie?"

I listened carefully. His voice was pleasant—exactly the kind I liked. It seemed my grandfather had pretty good taste after all.

"Lucas!" she cried sweetly, her voice dripping with affected innocence. "There's this shameless woman who snuck into your house today, claiming she's a guest of the Hunt family. She even stole the ring you gave me!"

I cut through her sugary tone before she could continue. It was best to introduce myself first, in case he had no idea what was going on.

"Lucas, my name is Sabrina Pierce. I'm your fiancée."

There was a brief two-second pause, as if he were searching his memory for my name. When he spoke again, his voice had turned cold.

"Fiancée? What fiancée? Anyone entering the Hunt residence must have an invitation. Otherwise, it's trespassing."

Then his voice softened again.

"Queenie, don't be upset. It's just a ring. When I get back, I'll buy you another one."

The pigeon-blood ruby on my finger was the token of love between my parents. There wasn't another one like it anywhere in the world.

As I silently reconsidered the reliability of this arranged marriage, Queenie had already doubled over laughing. She looked me up and down with blatant contempt.

"You? Look at you—wearing cheap clothes without even a brand label! And you dare claim to be Lucas's fiancée? That's the funniest joke I've heard all day!"

I had studied design overseas for years. The clothes I wore were all designed and tailored by myself, so of course, there were no brand labels.

In fact, my designs had already gained popularity among many wealthy women abroad. The fact that she couldn't recognize them made me question her identity instead.

After all the commotion she'd caused, I no longer had any interest in strolling through the garden. I turned to leave.

But Queenie stepped in front of me, blocking my path.

"Didn't you hear what Lucas said? Anyone entering the Hunt residence needs an invitation! Didn't you say you were a guest? Then where's your invitation?"

I rolled my eyes and reached into my pocket to look for it—but came up empty.

Only then did I remember my grandfather saying we wouldn't need an invitation to visit the Hunt family.

Seeing that I couldn't produce one, the mockery on her face deepened.

"So you really were lying! Someone come here! Take that ring off her hand and tie her up—throw her out!"

I covered the ring with one hand and took a step back, glaring at her.

Several servants approached me. Their expressions carried a hint of pity as they tried to persuade me.

"Miss, you should just return the ring to Miss Hartley. Otherwise, you might not even know how you died."

"That's right. That ring is the token of love between Master Lucas and Miss Hartley. They've grown up together. If he finds out, he won't let you off."

"I personally saw it happen once. Someone accidentally dirtied Miss Hartley's dress, and the next day… his hand was gone."

Their warnings only seemed to amuse Queenie even more.

"Well? Did you hear them?" she sneered. "Get down on your knees right now. Put the ring on my finger respectfully, then crawl out of here. Otherwise…"

Her eyes turned cold.

"You'll end up just like the man who dirtied my dress."

It was already late by the time Grandpa and I returned home.Still worried, he had the family doctor perform another full-body examination on me. Even a psychologist had already been waiting at home in case I needed one.Later, as I carried a cup of warm milk toward Grandpa's room, I saw through the slightly open door that his deeply lined face was streaked with tears."I'm sorry… I failed you…" he murmured hoarsely. "Today I almost let Sabrina be…"If anything had happened to her, I wouldn't have wanted to live either… our whole family would just go reunite over there…"His aged voice was filled with endless guilt.I pushed the door open and quietly sat beside him."Grandpa, it's all over now. Aren't I perfectly fine now?"My parents' deaths had left a shadow too deep for either of us to escape. I didn't dare imagine what Grandpa might have done if something had truly happened to me today. He gently stroked my hand."Sabrina, I didn't protect you well enough. Tell me… when I

"Dad! Who exactly are they?! Why are you—"Before Lucas could finish, his father slapped the back of his head."I told you long ago not to be so arrogant!" Wyatt snapped. "Matthew is someone even more formidable than your grandfather! Now that you've committed such a grave mistake, the only way you'll be spared is if Sabrina forgives you!"Grandpa's identity was something only the older generation truly knew about. Wyatt had grown up hearing Nathan repeatedly warn him: Never provoke the Pierce family, or the consequences will be unimaginable. But after my parents died, the Pierce family gradually disappeared from public view. Wyatt never passed those warnings down to the younger generation. That was how Lucas and Queenie had grown so arrogant—almost causing a disaster of unimaginable scale.Seeing the elders he respected now bowing their heads to me, Lucas's earlier disbelief turned into fear."Sabrina! I—I was misled by Queenie earlier! That's why I didn't recognize who you were

Nathan immediately realized how serious the situation was. His tone in the phone turned humble at once as he began apologizing profusely."Matthew, I'm terribly sorry—truly sorry. Please don't be angry; it's not good for your health. I'll come over right away and deal with that brat!"Lucas had never seen his usually imposing grandfather speak in such a submissive tone. He opened his mouth to say something, but the call had already ended."Old bastard!" he shouted angrily. "You must've found someone to pretend to be my grandfather! You're just trying to scare me!"I'm telling you—I won't fall for your trick!"You and that jinx will never step foot into the Hunt family in this lifetime!"Grandpa's grip on my hand tightened, and a fierce killing intent radiated from him.I couldn't help letting out a soft groan. The finger Queenie had injured earlier had soaked in water and was already swollen, red, and throbbing with pain.Grandpa immediately called for a helicopter to bring the

The Hunt family servants immediately began whispering among themselves again."Has that old man lived too long? Does he even realize the grave he's dug for himself?""Honestly, why won't these people listen to reason? Now they've ruined the marriage alliance with the Hunt family. The Pierce family is going to suffer for this.""Exactly. Master Lucas is Master Wyatt's most beloved youngest son, and Miss Hartley is the cherished only daughter of the Hartley family."But Grandpa ignored them entirely. Instead, he had Lucas dragged in front of me."Sabrina," he said gently, "how did they bully you just now? Tell Grandpa. I'll settle the score for you."I glanced at the pond, which had been turned into a complete mess by Queenie and the servants.A faint smile curved my lips."Grandpa, have someone pull them out of the water first."Grandpa thought I was afraid of them and shot me a displeased look. But I gave him a reassuring glance.I was no saint.Queenie had already choked o

The moment I saw Grandpa, the will to live surged through me. It was as if strength suddenly flooded back into my body.I grabbed onto a floating plank from the canopy boat and cried out weakly, "Grandpa!"The bodyguards beside him immediately jumped into the water and pulled me ashore.Grandpa rushed over without caring that I was soaked from head to toe and pulled me tightly into his arms.Seeing the sheer number of bodyguards around him, the servants who had been watching couldn't help but step back in alarm."Whoa… why does this man have so many bodyguards? Who is he?""Could Miss Pierce really be the daughter of some low-profile wealthy family?""But this is the Hunt residence! No matter how powerful he is, he still has to respect the Hunt family, right?"As Queenie heard that, the slight frown on her face vanished instantly. She picked up Grandpa's cane and swung it toward us, only to be stopped by one of the bodyguards. In a fit of irritation, she turned and tossed the

Lucas let out a light laugh, his eyes filled with contempt, as if he were looking at a piece of trash."Who does your grandfather think he is? What right does he have to come after me?"The Pierce family only has you and that old man left, doesn't it?"You even managed to bring death to your own parents, and he still wants me to marry a woman as unlucky as you? What a joke."My pupils shrank suddenly. The words "brought death to your parents" stabbed into my heart like a dagger. On my eighth birthday, my parents had planned to take a cruise back from overseas to celebrate with me.But fate had other plans. That day, fierce winds suddenly rose over the sea. The captain of our family ship advised them to stay docked for a day before setting sail again. But I called them.Crying into the phone, I told them I missed them.So my parents gritted their teeth and decided to take a small boat back themselves.Just as they were about to reach the shore, a violent storm suddenly swept
