Chapter 2

Author: Eirlys
"You're saying... the Alpha and Luna of the Silver Moon Pack are your birth parents?!"

I didn't answer, just stared in the direction Grace had gone, my mind drifting back five years.

It was right after I'd been found and brought back to the Silver Moon Pack.

The selection for the Werewolf Elite Academy was coming up, and I was focused on studying, with no intention of getting caught in some "true vs. fake daughter" drama.

But my parents begged for my forgiveness. They smothered me with attention, caring for me far more than they did for Grace.

For the first time, I felt the warmth of a family.

The day I came home, my parents were waiting at the manor gate. My mother hugged me and cried, and my father, his eyes red, patted my shoulder.

"Amelia, we're so sorry. We let you suffer out there for so long."

Grace stood beside them. Her smile faltered for a split second before snapping back into its usual gentle expression.

Back then, I thought she was genuinely happy to have a sister.

I thought I would be this happy forever.

Until the night the selection results were announced. I ran excitedly into the living room.

"Mom, Dad, let's go to the Northern Mountains to celebrate! I heard the auroras there are beautiful!"

My mother smiled and agreed. "Of course, the whole family will go."

I didn't notice the way Grace's face fell.

Late that night, I went downstairs for a glass of water and heard Grace crying in my parents' room.

"I've been planning for three months... I even booked the villa by the sea... But if sister wants to go to the mountains, then we'll go to the mountains. It's okay, I don't mind..." she sobbed.

Then, I heard my mother sigh.

"Honestly, that child. Grace has been planning for so long, and she just has to pick the mountains. We've already been so welcoming to her, why does she still have to fight and claw for everything?"

My father's voice followed. "Let it go. Grace is the understanding one. She can handle a little disappointment."

I stood on the stairs, the water in my glass turning to ice.

The next morning, I went to my parents. "The seaside is fine, too."

My mother patted my head, pleased. "Amelia, you're so considerate. Don't worry, after the beach, I'll take you to the mountains."

I believed her.

But when I came downstairs with my suitcase at six the next morning, the entire manor was empty.

A servant told me the Alpha and Luna had left with Miss Grace before dawn.

I stood frozen at the door for a long, long time.

My phone buzzed.

My mother had transferred a large sum of money to my account with a message: "Amelia, Mommy will make it up to you next time. Take this money and go have some fun on your own."

The number was huge, a long string of zeros that felt less like a gift and more like a slap in the face.

I didn't cry. I went to the Northern Mountains alone.

The auroras were beautiful.

I sent a photo to my parents. "Mom, look, this is the aurora."

"Dad, I saw a white fox today."

"It's snowing hard today. I caught a snow rabbit and roasted it myself."

Crickets. Not a single reply.

But when I checked Grace's social media, my parents had liked every single one of her beach selfies.

I stayed in the mountains for a month.

The day I returned to the manor, the entire family was busy preparing for Grace's academy acceptance party.

Grace was in the fitting room, wearing a shimmering, pale blue princess gown.

When she saw me, she gave me a sweet smile. "Sister, you're back!"

My mother saw me, an awkward look on her face. She shoved a drab, dark purple dress into my arms.

"Amelia, I'm sorry, I forgot to get your measurements done. You'll just have to make do with this for tonight."

The dress was at least three years out of style.

"Mom, this dress..."

Before I could finish, my father frowned and pulled me into his study, his voice low.

"Amelia! Don't throw a tantrum now. Grace placed in the top thousand in the selection. She earned this. Can't you be a little more mature?"

The top thousand.

I gave a bitter smile.

But I was number one. First in all of North America.

All they had to do was look at the public announcement to see my name.

Why didn't anyone look?

Three days later. The Pack Alliance Tribunal.Representatives from every major North American pack were present. The gallery was packed.Grace sat at the plaintiff's table in a simple white dress, her eyes artfully red-rimmed as she played the part of the perfect victim.Marcus, who was supposedly bedridden, was also there. He and Elara sat in the front row, their expressions a mix of anger and guilt. As I walked into the tribunal hall, every eye fell on me."Alpha Amelia of the Red Fang Pack," the Head Judge began, "do you have a defense against Miss Grace's accusations?"I didn't look at Grace. I simply pulled the first piece of evidence from my folder."I won't be defending myself against that accusation. Instead, I'd like to present new evidence.""Regarding the trial from five years ago."A wave of murmurs swept through the hall. The color drained from Grace's face for a split second."Five years ago, I was tried and convicted of treason by the Silver Moon Pack and sentenced to tw

The Enforcers' ruling came down quickly. The Silver Moon Pack was ordered to pay a hefty fine to the Red Fang Pack. On top of that, Marcus was forced to cede a crucial piece of border territory to us.It was the most mineral-rich land in their northern territory. The day the ruling was delivered to the Silver Moon estate, Marcus was so furious he coughed up blood and collapsed. The doctor said the shock and rage were too much for his system. He needed long-term rest and couldn't handle pack affairs for the foreseeable future.Grace had to take over temporarily. But Elara had raised her like a delicate flower in a greenhouse. Other than putting on a show and crying, she knew nothing about running a pack.In just one month, several of Silver Moon's major business deals fell through. Two smaller packs that were previously allied with Silver Moon took the opportunity to declare their independence. The stock price of their corporate empire plummeted by forty percent.Meanwhile, my Red Fang

A dozen elite werewolf guards dropped to one knee in perfect unison, their heads bowed."Alpha!"The unified cry was so powerful it seemed to shake the very foundations of the hall. The crowd of onlookers fell silent instantly. The color drained from Elara's face as she stared at the Red Fang crest on the guards' chests."Alpha… They called her… Alpha?"My father, Marcus, his pupils shrank to pinpricks. He stumbled back a step, nearly losing his balance."Impossible!" he snarled. "Amelia, who did you pay to put on this show?! You think throwing on a uniform makes you the Red Fang Pack? I see right through this pathetic charade!"Someone in the crowd chimed in hesitantly, "Yeah, the Red Fang Alpha is supposed to be some powerful, mysterious figure. How could it be her?"Grace gasped, her hand flying to her mouth. "Sister, you can't joke about something like this! Impersonating an Alpha is a crime you can be put on trial for!"Though her voice was laced with panic, a flicker of triumph f

The gala was winding down. I stepped outside. The night wind blew, and I looked up at the crescent moon.It was a moon just like this three years ago, on the day I was released from prison.I walked out of that heavy iron gate, covered in scars, with nothing to my name.Only Chloe had believed I was framed. Only she was willing to stand by my side.Bit by bit, we clawed out our own territory, absorbing the smaller packs around us.Three years later, the name Crimson Fang appeared for the first time on the list of North American wolf packs. No matter how hard it got, I never once thought about going back to the Silver Moon Pack. That home died for me the moment they sent me to the tribunal. In the parking area outside the gala, my custom armored Maybach was waiting quietly.I was just about to walk over."Amelia?!"Elara's voice came from behind me.I stopped and saw my father, mother, and Grace standing on the steps, all three of them staring at the car.Elara's face instantly turned u

The week that followed was the happiest of my life.My mother would cook breakfast for me herself. My father would teach me about pack management in his study.Even Grace became more "considerate," occasionally bringing me snacks she'd made.I thought we had truly become a family.Until that afternoon. My father stormed into my room, his face dark with fury, the pressure of his Alpha aura nearly tearing the roof off."Amelia!"I jumped up from my desk. "Dad, what's wrong?""You tell me!"He slammed a photograph onto my desk.In the photo, a figure in a dark cloak stood under the moonlight, talking to a man in a silver wolf mask. The silver wolf mask. The symbol of the River Pack, our sworn enemies. And the cloaked figure… it looked a little like me."That's not me!" I said immediately."Then why did Grace see you with her own eyes?!"My mother walked in, her face pale, her eyes filled with disappointment.Grace followed them, her head down, sobbing quietly. The night of the party, the manor was ablaze with light.I stood at the entrance next to Grace, greeting guests in that hideous purple dress. The train on Grace's gown was ridiculously long, spreading out a good ten feet behind her, and her diamond tiara glittered blindingly under the crystal chandeliers.I wasn't even a backdrop; I was a ghost."And who is this? A distant relative of the Alpha?" an elder asked my father, looking at me with confusion. My father looked embarrassed. "This is my eldest daughter, Amelia. She just returned to the pack."The elder blinked, then chuckled awkwardly. "Oh... my mistake. My apologies, Alpha."I heard Grace's quiet snicker and could only clench the fabric of my skirt in my fists."And this is our Grace, a true genius who just passed the Elite Academy selection," my mother said on the other side of the room, her arm linked with Grace's, introducing her proudly to every guest.Applause followed them everywhere. No one gave me a second glance.I took
