To Love Is to Suffer

"Mr. Ross, Ms. Singleton is seriously injured. Her wolf has lost consciousness. She'll need a specialized treatment that costs 300 thousand dollars to recover."

Louis turned away, his golden eyes filled with sorrow. However, he didn't respond right away.

"I didn't expect them to go to that extent."

Beta, his assistant, flinched slightly but kept his tone respectful, almost flattering. "Mr. Ross, you had such a flawless expression. If I hadn't known it was all an act, even I would have been fooled.

"But don't you think you went overboard by letting a pack of rogues violate your Luna so you could marry Ms. Amanda? Your Luna was carrying your pup…"

Louis' face flickered with an unreadable expression. His voice was low and hoarse but steady. "My Luna will only ever be Amanda. Ruining Jody's reputation was the only way to justify stripping her of the title.

"A promise is a promise. I owe Jody for this, and I'll treat her well for the rest of her life."

Beta's gaze softened with a trace of pity. He lowered his voice, saying, "Mr. Ross, I understand. My condolences for the loss of your pup."

Pain washed through Louis' expression as he responded, "I never intended for that pup to be born. If it had been, things would have become even harder for Amanda. She's too weak. She couldn't handle another blow.

"As for Jody... even though she can't bear pups, she'd make a wonderful mother. When Amanda and I have another pup, we'll let her raise it—it'll fulfill her dream of being a mother."

He paused for a moment.

"But still, Jody willingly offered herself to those rogues. That hurt me more than anything. I don't even know how to look her in the eye right now."

His voice trembled, thick with emotion.

Beta let out a soft sigh. "You've endured enough, Mr. Ross."

At this point, my body was so numb from the pain that I could barely feel anything. Yet, my tears wouldn't stop.

I had sacrificed myself willingly to save Louis. And now, he treated it like something to be ashamed of.

He did all of this just to push me aside, so his mistress—my stepsister—could take my place and become his new Luna.

My mind hovered between consciousness and darkness. My wolf, too, was in agony, letting out faint, broken howls.

She was barely hanging on.

My wolf was gentle and proud. It stood by my side as I became the youngest Luna in the entire pack’s history.

She whispered to me, "I'm your most loyal companion. No matter what happens, I will protect you for life."

Just then, Louis walked in, gazing at me with a familiar, loving look.

His voice was as tender as it used to be. "Don't be afraid, Jody. Trust me. I've always loved you. Everything will be better when you wake up."

Then, he turned away and whispered to his subordinate, "Cancel the treatment. Let her wolf go. I can't risk Amanda losing her chance to become Luna because of Jody. Give Jody more anesthesia. Make sure she doesn't suffer too much."
