The branches of the Tree of Life shimmered faintly, as if moonlight itself had settled upon its leaves. Where there had been nothing before, a single small fruit now hung from one of its lower branches. It glowed softly, warm and alive, pulsing with a gentle light that made the air around it feel different, more sacred.

Before Gavriel could even stand, footsteps approached.

Elior entered the hidden garden, his weathered face lifted toward the tree, eyes shining with quiet awe. The moment he saw the fruit, he dropped to his knees without hesitation.

“Praise the Lord Almighty,” the prophet said, his voice thick with reverence.

“A husband?” Althea’s voice rose, sharp with disbelief. “No. That can’t be right. Where is my father?”The question hung heavy in the air. Melva stiffened, and for a brief moment, her eyes flicked to Gavriel. He met her gaze, his expression tightening, the unspoken weight of the truth passing between them.Melva turned back to Althea and forced a gentle smile. “Milady… there are many things you need to know, but not all at once. You’ve just awakened. Your body is still weak.”Althea shook her head immediately, strands of her hair brushing against the pillow. “No. Don’t do that,” she said, her tone firm despite her frailty. “Don’t delay it. Tell me now. Where is my father?”Melva hesitated, then reached for her hand. “We will talk. I promise. But first, you must rest. You haven’t eaten yet. Are you hungry?”“No,” Althea replied at once, her grip tightening around Melva’s fingers. “I don’t care about food. I want answers. Now.”The room fell silent again.Melva swallowed and turned towa

At House of Aetherion TerritoryMelva had already finished cleaning Althea’s body and gently massaging her stiff limbs, careful not to disturb the fragile stillness surrounding her. Yet she did not leave.Instead, she remained kneeling beside the transparent casket, her hands folded on her lap as her gaze drifted between Althea’s serene face and the faintly glowing Tree of Life towering above them. Soft golden light filtered through its leaves, casting a gentle radiance that made the hidden garden feel almost unreal.“I’m still confused about so many things, milady,” Melva murmured quietly, her voice barely more than a whisper. “Even this tree… I didn’t know such a thing truly existed.”She let out a slow sigh, her shoulders lifting and falling as memories surfaced.Earlier that day, she had spoken with several people from the House of Aetherion, those she had crossed paths with. Curious and unable to contain her questions, she had asked them about the Tree of Life. Each one had given

Uriel rubbed his temples as he sat back in the high-backed chair behind the council desk, eyes fixed on the endless stack of documents before him.The parchment felt heavier tonight, as if the weight of the kingdom itself had seeped into every line of ink. Reports. Complaints. Requests for reassurance. Arguments between nobles who no longer trusted the ground beneath their feet now that magic and shifting had gone silent. The palace was too quiet. He exhaled slowly and leaned forward again, scanning another report about unrest near the eastern borders, arguments over old land claims between packs. Merchants refusing to travel at night. Guards requesting more men even though they all knew it was pointless.

Zander raised a hand gently, signaling calm. His gaze shifted from the Archon to Candice, assessing her reaction rather than accepting the offer outright.“This is… sudden,” Zander said carefully.“It is decisive,” the Archon replied. “Our houses have long discussed this possibility. You and Candice have known each other since childhood even if you two do not remember those times since both of you are still young.”Osman felt something dark twist in his chest.Zander glanced at Candice again. “And what does Lady Candice think?”Candice’s hands clenched at her sides. She drew a steady breath before answering. “I think,” she said slowly, “that this conversation should not be treated like a trade of lands or titles.”The Archon frowned slightly. “Candice, this is not the time—”“It is exactly the time,” she interrupted, her voice firm but controlled. “House Aetherion just survived war. Announcing a marriage alliance as if it’s a victory trophy is not right.”Osman looked at her then—trul

Gavriel did not turn around right away but his jaw tightened. The soft glow of the Tree of Life bathed Althea’s pale face in silver light, making her look as though she were merely sleeping, caught in a dream too deep to reach.“My cousin will be in good hands here,” Zander added. “I will personally oversee everything. I’ll send you updates daily. Nothing will be hidden from you. You should return to Lunaris first and stabilize your kingdom.”Still, Gavriel did not move. For a long moment, the only sound between them was the faint rustle of leaves above, the Tree of Life whispering softly as if breathing on its own.“I just got her here,” Gavriel said at last, his voice low. “Or at least… I found where she needs to be. And now you’re telling me to leave her.”Zander stepped closer, stopping beside him. He looked at Althea too, his expression no less heavy. “I know how it feels,” he said. “You think walking away means abandoning her. But it doesn’t.”Gavriel finally turned, his eyes da
