Chapter 4

Author: Cherry Bite
Before I could react, they barged in.

Sarah came out with a smirk and faked panic. "What are you doing? Why did you bring these lowlifes here?"

Before I could argue, Jake burst in and shoved me down. He growled, "I stepped out for a bit, and you're causing trouble again."

"I don't even know them," I argued, struggling to stand. "You're so quick to believe her story."

He paused at my words, but a guy with dyed hair sneered, "Johanna, how could you ghost us after hooking up?"

Jake's face twisted. He grabbed my throat. "You're disgusting! Fresh out of surgery and fooling around? That desperate?"

I shook my head, crying, "I'm not."

He wouldn't listen, just dragged me to the storage room and locked me in.

"You stay here and reflect on your mistakes. No more hurting people," he said.

The room was filthy. Mosquitoes bit me, and my belly throbbed worse.

Hours later, the door opened.

Sarah approached me, grinning. "My wedding with Jake is in a few days. Stay out of sight. He says you make him sick."

Then she collapsed, screaming, "I just came to check on you. Why did you push me?"

Jake rushed in, roaring, "You filthy witch! Sarah's already suffering, and you have the heart to bully her?"

Sarah sobbed, "If you hate me, just say it. Why trash me and my children online? They are innocent."

Jake grabbed me. "You've gone too far. Post online that you cheated and that Sarah is innocent. Otherwise, you're not getting your bracelet."

Rage burned inside me, but I held back at the thought of Sarah's disease. Soon enough, they would both pay the price.

I nodded. "Okay. But give me my bracelet first."

Once I had it, I logged in and typed, [Hey everyone, I'm Johanna Burton, Jake Carter's rotten ex-wife. I cheated, got caught, and got divorced. I'm here to clear Sarah Miller's name. She isn't a homewrecker. I lied about her ruining my marriage out of jealousy. It's all my fault.]

The post went live, and I became the subject of everyone's ridicule. Jake despised me even more and kicked me out.

I went back to my parents' house and told them everything. They hugged me, heartbroken.

With their support, I decided to study design abroad and start over.

Soon, I had everything set to leave. The day I flew out was Jake and Sarah's wedding day.

Before boarding, I anonymously sent Jake a copy of Sarah's AIDS diagnosis.

His love was pure, unshaken by my rejections.I took a deep breath and nodded. "Okay."His eyes widened with shock and ecstasy. He jumped up and hugged me tightly."No take-backs," he said.I pushed back and kissed him. "No take-backs."Garth paused, then deepened the kiss. His warmth enveloped me, passionate and tender, as he poured out his pent-up love.Time se

"Sarah got hit with multiple charges. She is locked up for 20 years. Her crimes pissed everyone off. In prison, other inmates beat her daily. And Jake paid people to torture her, even strangling her kids and having their bodies dumped in front of her. She died of fright."I was st

On camera, he looked wrecked as he confessed his sins."Everyone trashed Johanna for cheating, but I faked the evidence," he said. "It was also me who forced her to clear Sarah's name. She never cheated. The baby was mine. I made her abort it to marry Sarah. I failed her and our unborn child."He paused and added, "I got tricked by Sarah. She got AIDS and wanted to ruin my life. She's in jail now, but Johanna won't forgive me. I don't know what to do."The mob that once cursed me turned on him.[Scumbag, go to hell!][Disgusting creep!][You did wrong things and blamed Sarah for everything. In the studio, I cut fabric, tweaked patterns, and poured my passion into every stitch. I often stayed up late perfecting my work.My life there was full and joyful. I had left the past behind. But Jake found me fast. One day, I finished my class and headed home. At the school gate, a familiar figure came into view.Jake looked rough. He was much thinner and unshaven. His usual confidence was replaced by exhaustion.I frowned, trying to dodge him. He rushed up and blocked my path. With a hoarse voice, he pleaded, "I messed up. Please, I can explain."I stayed stone-faced and silent, trying to slip past. He dropped to his knees, which drew the attention of my classmates. They watched curiously and whispered among themselves. My friend, Garth Smith, stepped up. "Need help?"I nodded, glaring at Jake. "I don't know him."Then I started to leave with Garth. Jake panicked, pulling a knife and pressing it to his wrist."If you don't forgive me, I'll cut myself right here and die i

Jake laughed bitterly, "Johanna never cheated. I lied to marry Sarah."Linda gaped. "No way. I saw the video.""I faked it. I was wrong to believe Sarah and hurt Johanna. In the end, I screwed myself over," he sighed....Linda stood frozen, then whispered, "Are you out of your mind? Why would you do that? Trusting you, I thought Johanna was guilty and treated her terribly. Now you're telling me it was all fake?"Jake zoned out. Her words kept echoing in his mind.He couldn't believe he had been so blind. He had a loving, beautiful wife but fell for a manipulative liar.He remembered meeting Sarah, her pitiful state tugging at his heart. Her sob story sucked him in. Pity clouded his judgment, and he betrayed our marriage. As he drowned in regret, the police showed up."Jake Carter, we need you at the station to assist with Sarah Miller's case," declared a police officer.Jake's heart sank, but what was to come would. He nodded numbly and followed them to the car.At the stat

Sarah's eyes flickered with panic, but she quickly put on a pitiful show."What could I have done?" she said. "How can you humiliate me like this? My injuries were from my ex's abuse. I'm a wreck because of him, and you still don't trust me?"Linda finally recovered from the shock. She asked, "What's going on? How could Sarah have that disease? It's a death sentence."Then hopefully, she added, "This is easy to figure out. Get Johanna over and confront her."Jake ordered his team to find me, but they soon returned, defeated. They recited what my mother had told them, "Johanna is done with Jake Carter. He's got no right to bother her. If he sends anyone again, he'll regret it."Jake was furious. Ignoring the guests, he stormed out and drove to my parents' house. He pounded hard on the door. The butler stopped him. "Mr. Carter, you're not welcome here."Jake tried to push through. My mother stormed out, snapping, "You've got some nerve. Johanna's gone. What do you want now? You f

The paper shook in his hands. In her wedding dress, Sarah approached with Linda. All smiles, Linda said, "After the wedding, get to work on some kids. I want a cute grandson. Sarah is sweet and loves you for real, unlike Johanna, who did those shameless things. Treat her right."A guest chimed in, "Sarah is tough and kind. Way better than that toxic Johanna. You're lucky, Jake."Another echoed, "Exactly. How could Johanna do that? Sarah is the real deal, perfect for a solid home."Their praises buzzed around Jake, but he heard none of it. "Get in the kitchen and cook. Don't be an eyesore here," Jake sulked. To get my bracelet, I swallowed my pain and started cooking.Dinner was barely done when a scream came from the living room. I rushed out and found Sarah sitting on the floor. Beside her was a shattered vase."I'm sorry. I didn't mean it," she whimpered.Jake came out of the bathroom and scooped her up. Turning to me, he snapped, "What is wrong with you? Sarah is weak, and you let her place a vase?"Before I could explain, Sarah sniffled, "It was my fault. Don't blame her."Jake's face darkened. "She doesn't deserve your kindness. She's just a cheating nobody. Probably knocked up by some random guy. You're too nice, and she's taking advantage."His words hit like a punch. I thought he'd loved me once. Turned out, he always saw me as trash.Turning away, he carried Sarah to the bed and made me pick up the glass shards by hand. He even banned me from eating. My hands trembled as I bandaged them. Then the kids
