Chapter 2

Author: Ferrari
Last year, Lea and I married the Bellini brothers.

For a while, life was happy, until three months ago, when Ingrid suddenly got divorced and moved back into the Bellini residence.

From then on, Vincenzo and Roberto were constantly by her side, claiming she was depressed from the divorce and needed company.

Gradually, they drifted away from us, leading up to where we were now.

Lea and I stayed in the hospital to recover, wanting nothing to do with the three of them.

Ingrid, however, had other ideas. She posted update after update on Instagram, each video practically identical to the last.

The crystal chandeliers of the Bellini residence shone blindingly bright in the background.

Ingrid was curled up on the couch wrapped in a blanket, with Vincenzo peeling oranges for her while Roberto checked her blood pressure.

In the first clip, Ingrid giggled. "Vincenzo, stop peeling oranges just for me. Have some yourself."

The second video popped up right after, showing Ingrid holding a bowl of soup. "Roberto, we have a chef for a reason. You really didn't need to step into the kitchen to cook for me."

Then a third. A fourth. A fifth.

Every single video featured Vincenzo or Roberto attending to her, filmed from meticulously chosen angles with perfect lighting.

By the sixth video, Ingrid was wearing my pajama set—the one Vincenzo had given me for my birthday last year.

Lea, still hooked up to an IV, couldn't take any more of Ingrid's subtle gloating. She dialed a video call right then and there.

Ingrid answered almost instantly. Her face popped up on screen without a trace of the weakness she claimed to feel.

"Lea—"

"Shut up!" Lea snapped into the phone. "No wonder your ex-husband dumped you. You're just an adopted daughter of the Bellini family, yet you're clinging to both of your brothers like this. Is that really something to be proud of?"

"Hey!" Roberto's voice cut in from the background. "Watch your mouth, Lea. Ingrid's depression just stabilized. Why do you insist on triggering her?"

Lea let out a bitter laugh. "I'm triggering her? Roberto, you pulled every single doctor in the hospital away! Mia lost her baby because of you, and I almost died from hemorrhagic shock! And now you're telling me I'm triggering her?"

"How could either of you actually be in trouble? Are you seriously still acting at a time like this?"

Roberto's tone turned frosty. "Lea, if you keep making a scene like this, I wouldn't mind divorcing you."

He deliberately threw out the threat of divorce, expecting it to bring Lea back to her senses.

Instead, Lea let out a cold smirk and accepted immediately. "Fine. Let's get a divorce!"

Roberto froze, clearly caught off guard by her compliance.

Then he scoffed. "You say that every single time. Last time you brought up divorce, you dragged your suitcase all the way to the front door only to wheel it right back inside."

The line went dead.

Before long, my phone rang too. The name "Vincenzo" flashed across the screen.

I picked up, but before I could utter a word, he unleashed on me. "Mia, where are you?"

"The hospital."

"The hospital?" He scoffed. "You really play the part, don't you? Lea just called to scream at Ingrid and claimed she was hurt, so now you're pretending to be sick too? Did you two plot this together?"

I closed my eyes, exhausted. "I'm not pretending. The baby's gone. He's really gone."

"Mia, do you have any line you won't cross? Ingrid just found out she's pregnant today. Are you really using our baby to compete for attention?"

His words shattered whatever was left of me.

While my baby was dying, Vincenzo was busy tending to Ingrid's baby.

Ingrid's soft voice chimed in over the receiver. "Mia, we're both pregnant, so I get it. Hormones really mess with your emotions, which is why you're taking everything out on me. If you really hate me that much, maybe I should just leave so I don't stress you and the baby out…"

Vincenzo sounded thoroughly irritated on the other end. "Ingrid, your health and the baby's health are the only things that matter right now. Mia and the baby will be fine, so stop worrying about them."

Tears streamed down my cheeks at his words. The baby and I would be fine?

He had no idea our baby was already dead.

Without giving me a chance to speak again, Vincenzo hung up.

Agony washed over me like a tidal wave, and I broke down, sobbing uncontrollably.

Lea pulled me into a tight embrace, soothing me. "Don't cry, Mia. Vincenzo isn't worth having a child for. Let's call a lawyer right now. We'll get the divorce papers to them as soon as possible."

The police department didn't contact me again.I called twice to ask, but they only offered a vague "the case is still under investigation". By the third time, I stopped calling altogether.Because Ingrid was gone.Word was that Vincenzo had picked Ingrid up from the station and brought her back to the Bellini residence, and no one had seen her since.Ingrid was pregnant, so it was impossible that she would skip every prenatal checkup.Yet the reality was that she never set foot outside the Bellini residence again.Later, Scotti told me that the night the Bellini brothers brought her back from the station, they dragged her straight into the interrogation room.By the time she was pulled out, she was barely breathing. They threw her into the basement without food or water, and by the third night, she was dead.Vincenzo personally pulled strings at the police department to close the case, erasing Ingrid's name from the official records as if she had never existed. When the new

By the time Vincenzo rushed back home, I was already long gone.He and Roberto locked themselves in the study, watching the footage of Ingrid from my USB drive over and over again. Before long, Vincenzo stepped out of the room and ordered his men to bring Ingrid back from the police station by any means necessary. That very night, Ingrid was brought back to the Bellini residence. The moment she saw the two brothers, her tears began to flow. "Vincenzo, Roberto, why are Lea and Mia doing this to me…"Vincenzo coldly pushed away her hands as she tried to throw herself into his arms. "Ingrid, do you know the Don of the Navarro family?"The Navarro family was the very mafia family that had attacked me.Ingrid froze, her expression stiffening as she forced herself to maintain her fragile act. "No, Vincenzo. You know my whole world revolves around you and Roberto."Roberto walked over. "Hand over your phone."Knowing she had cleared her call logs, Ingrid handed it over without a seco

After I went back to the Conte residence, it wasn't long before the police knocked on my door to ask about the day I was attacked.I racked my brain for every detail and handed over all the evidence Scotti had given me, hoping they'd catch the monsters quickly. The next morning, Vincenzo called. His voice was dripping with accusation. "Mia, I told you Ingrid couldn't have had anything to do with those incidents. "Why did you tell the police she was a suspect? They just brought her in! You can't go making wild accusations without proof. You're going to ruin her life!"The last thread of my patience finally snapped under the sheer weight of his stupidity. "Vincenzo, do you even remember that my baby died because of you? "Your job is to get justice for him and drag every single suspect into the light! Not sit there accusing a grieving mother just to defend your sister!"Silence fell over the line for a moment."Listen," Vincenzo finally rasped out. "You can't point fingers at In

I knew that standard accusations against Ingrid wouldn't be enough to convince the Bellini brothers. Not that I expected them to believe me right away anyway. I was just waiting for Scotti to bring back the proof. After Lea and I spent a few days recovering at the Conte residence, Scotti delivered the divorce papers and the asset division agreements.Neither of us could wait a second longer. We headed straight to the Bellini residence. When Vincenzo and Roberto saw us walk in, panic flickered across their faces for a brief second.I gave Vincenzo a frigid glance. My voice was completely devoid of emotion as I said, "These are my divorce papers and asset division agreement. Take a look. If everything's fine, we're heading to the courthouse to make it official."Lea looked over at Roberto. "That goes for you too."The brothers' expressions darkened immediately. They stood there with their heads down, completely speechless. They made no move to look at the papers or follow us to

Roberto walked over, his brow furrowed in irritation. "What is it this time? I could hear you shouting from all the way down the hall. Don't you know you're scaring Ingrid?"As he spoke, his gaze landed on my flat stomach, and his frown deepened. "Where's your baby? Did you give birth early and hide the child somewhere?"Upon hearing this, Vincenzo suddenly snapped out of his daze. He grabbed my shoulders and shook me forcefully. "What's going on? Where's the baby? Tell me, where did you hide the child?"I shoved his hands off me. "Vincenzo, I never thought you could be this foolish. You'd actually rather believe I had the baby prematurely than believe me when I told you our child was gone?"My cold words left Vincenzo pale, yet I was suffering too.A blade had pierced my abdomen, killing my unborn baby inside me. That excruciating memory was branded into my mind forever. It was that very memory that fed my hatred for Vincenzo. If only he had believed me or even just listened car

The day before we were discharged, I called Scotti Romano, the Consigliere to the Bellini family.I had saved his life back before he held that position, making him the only person in the family I could truly rely on.When Scotti picked up, his voice was steady and composed. "How can I help you, Donna Bellini?""Ten days ago, I was attacked at the docks and lost my baby. Lea came to rescue me and was stabbed four times. She barely survived. I need you to find out who was behind it."Silence hung on the line for a moment. "An attack on the Donna is a grave matter for the family. I'll assign people to look into it right away. We'll trace the surveillance, the statements, and the middlemen step by step. No one involved will escape.""Thank you. There's one more thing," I said."Name it, Donna Bellini."I tightened my grip on the phone, my nails digging into my palm. "I'm getting a divorce. Help me draft the division of assets. Just make sure the properties, cars, and savings under
