LOGINAustin POV
“…..I love you too, see you when I get back” I say before hanging up with a smile on my face but she doesn't know I'm surprising her by coming home early.
The flight back felt endless, but I didn’t care.
I’d cut the business trip short by two days just to surprise her. Two months until the wedding. Two months until Lila was mine forever.
I’d spent the week in Paris and London making sure everything was perfect.
My First stop The Graff on Place Vendôme. The private salon had been closed just for me. The saleswoman is an elegant, silver-haired woman , with a soft French accent. She presented the black velvet tray to me with utmost care.
“Mr. Hale, she will never take this off,” she murmured, lifting the necklace.
A cascade of flawless white diamonds formed the chain, framing a breathtaking pear-shaped emerald at the center; it has a. deep, vivid green color chosen to match Lila’s eyes exactly.
The emerald glowed, it's surrounded by a halo of pavé diamonds. Engraved on the hidden clasp are our initials and the exact date we first made. “A woman like her…is truly blessed to be loved this way.”the saleswoman continues .
My phone buzzed in my pocket when I pull it out. The caller ID was JAX, my best friend, I pick up and put him on speaker as I show him the piece.
“Dude, you’re insane,” Jax laughed. “Two exotic Hermès bags plus a Graff emerald? Lila’s the luckiest woman alive. You are so extra my man…..if this isn't the wedding gift I wonder what you will gift her then.
I grinned like an idiot, watching the emerald catch the light one last time. “Nah, bro. I’m the blessed one. She chose me. Every single day she chooses me. This is just…me appreciating her for all she does.”
The Hermès atelier had the same magic. The Kelly 28 in luminous Etoupe leather with custom interior monogrammed in gold. The Birkin 30 in exotic Noir matte Porosus crocodile is the exact one she’d traced in magazines and gushed how impossible it was to get offered such a bag.
Both orange boxes are tied with perfect ribbons. The sales associate had smiled wide. “She’s going to cry happy tears, sir.”
I smile back at her, Lila’s happiness is all I need as long as she's happy I don't care the cost.
The driver dropped me at midnight. I sent him away. I want this moment to be just us.
I wanted to watch her face light up when I opened the door and say, “Baby, I couldn’t stay away.”
I carried the three boxes like they were made of glass all the way to the penthouse. My heart beating so fast like I was about to propose all over again. This was it.
The hallway was too quiet.
I slipped the key in, turned it slowly trying to be as quiet as possible.
The foyer was dark.
I set the boxes down gently on the console table so they wouldn’t make a sound.
I wanted to creep in, maybe slip into the bedroom and wake her with kisses and the surprise already waiting I smiled at the thought.
I took off my shoes, left them by the door.
The house felt strangely quiet. Too quiet. No soft music or TV murmur that Lila usually had on she always needed white noise so she could sleep, no hum of the city filtering through the windows like usual.
I moved deeper inside, past the living room, toward the hallway that led to the master suite.
When I started up the short flight of stairs to the bedroom level.
Halfway up, I froze.
A sound drifted down a feminine moan that sounded too familiar.Followed by the distinct sound of the wet slap of skin on skin and the headboard thudding steadily against the wall.
Lila’s voice was breathy, needy and she was gasping, “Harder, Marcus… just like that… fuck, yes.....”
Marcus’s grunt followed. “You feel so good, baby. So much tighter than I imagined…”
Ava POVFor a second, I forgot how to breathe.“Theo,” I said sharply. “Say that again.”His voice came rough through the line.“Kale escaped before sunrise. Two guards are injured, one with a broken shoulder. He shifted and tore through the east gate patrol.”I pressed a hand to my forehead.“And Elara?”“He took her body from the hall before anyone realized he was gone.”A sick feeling rolled through me.Elara had already been denied peace in life. Now even in death, she was being dragged into madness.“And the message?”Theo exhaled shakily. “Written in blood on the marble floor.”My stomach twisted.“‘The Blood Moon has only begun.’”The conference room around me blurred at the edges. Sara took one look at my face and silently locked the door.“Liste
Ava POVBy the time I stepped out of Hale Corporation, the city air felt thinner.Like walking out of a lion’s den and realizing the door had never truly been open.Sara shot to her feet the second she saw me.“Well?” she demanded, striding beside me as we crossed the lobby. “Did the ghost have a face? Was he old? Bald? Evil?”“All three,” I muttered. She blinked. “That bad?”“Worse.”I kept walking, heels striking marble hard enough to echo. My pulse still hadn’t settled. Austin’s voice clung to me like smoke. His eyes. His confidence. The infuriating certainty that I’d call him.I hated that some small part of me knew he was right.Once inside the elevator, Sara folded her arms.“You look angry enough to commit tax fraud. What happened?”I stared at the closing doors. “Austin Hale happened.”Silence.Then—“The Austin?”“Yes.”“The hotel Austin?”“Yes.”“The man you vanished with after disappearing from a murder scene and emotional collapse?”I rubbed my temple. “Must you narrate my
Ava POVFor one long second, I could only stare.Austin Hale. The man I met half-drunk in a hotel room. The man who held me through the night. The man whose body had been wrapped around mine only hours ago.And now… the man sitting behind the desk of the company that could either save me or destroy me.He looked nothing like the sleepy, half-naked man from this morning. This Austin was polished danger.Dark tailored suit. Expensive watch. Crisp white shirt with the top button undone like even formal wear had to submit to him. His hair was perfectly styled, jaw shadowed just enough to make him look unfairly handsome. But the eyes were the same.Sharp. Knowing. Too calm.I found my voice.“You’re Mr. Hale?”He leaned back lazily. “Disappointed?”“I’m reconsidering murder charges.”That made one corner of his mouth lift.God, even his smile was annoying.“You hid this from me.”“You never asked for my last name.”“I didn’t know I needed a background check before a one-night stand.”His g
Ava POVI barely stepped out of the pack house before my phone rang again.Sara.“I’m on my way,” I said, yanking open my car door.“Ma’am, you need to get here now.” Her voice was tight, sharp in a way I’d never heard before. “Titan Group pulled out overnight. Full withdrawal. No warning. No explanation.”My blood ran cold.Titan was our second-largest investor. Their funding was carrying most of our Q3 expansion plans. Without them…“How bad?” I asked, already dreading the answer.“Without Titan, we miss payroll in six weeks. The board is panicking. They want answers.”Six weeks.I shoved the key into the ignition and the engine roared to life.“I’ll be there in ten minutes. Don’t let anyone touch anything until I arrive.”“I’ll hold them off. But Ava…” She rarely used my first name at work. “Hurry.”The line went dead. The drive to Redwood Global Holdings was a blur of horns, red lights, and curses under my breath.I parked crooked in my reserved spot and stormed inside. By the tim
CHAPTER 8: MORNING CLAIMAva POVSunlight sips through the blackout curtains in thin golden bars.My body ached in the best way, muscles sore, skin marked with faint fingerprints and bites. I'm wrapped in Austin's arm, his breath warm against the back of my neck .For the first time in years I woke up tangled with someone and it didn't feel like a prelude to heartbreak. But my mindink is screaming at me.I had blocked my mind yesterday and now I keep feeling sharp nudges on it and it is filled with grief and rage.Nyra stirred weakly inside me—wounded but alert, Something was wrong. I had to go.I slid one leg toward the edge of the bed.Austin's arm tightened instantly."Where do you think you're going?" His voice was rough with sleep."Family business. I have to leave."He studied my face for a long second, his thumb brushing my hip. Then he exhaled and released me."Drive safe." He says pressing a kiss on my shoulder. "Don't disappear on me okay?."I lean down and kiss him “I won't”
Ava POVThe room was dark when I woke up . The pounding in my head had reduced to a dull ache at my temples. The city lights seeped through the heavy blackout curtains, casting faint silver streaks on the bed. Nyra stirred lazily inside me, not raging or whining for once. Just… waiting. Curious. I let out a sigh of relief at least she isn't blocking me out.The man was still there seated on the armchair across the bed . Austin I think I remember him telling me his name earlier in the bathroom. It was not a dream .Towel slung dangerously low on his hips, water droplets still clinging to the sharp ridges of his abs and chest. His dark hair is messy, jaw shadowed with stubble, and shoulders broad enough to block out the world if he wanted. Handsome didn’t do him justice. He looked like trouble wrapped in safety, the kind of man who could break you and then hold every shattered piece together afterward. My mouth went dry just watching him breathe.I sit up with the sheets dropping to my
