Outside, the cool night air hit my warm skin sharply. As I tried to wrap my mind around the betrayal, I noticed Mr. Watson, our elderly neighbor, crossing the street. He was cradling his cat.

"Evening, Lilian!" he called out, his voice carrying the warmth of familiarity.

I mustered a weak smile, waving back. "Good evening, Mr. Watson." I said, my heart not in the conversation.

After, I hurried home.

Once inside, I dashed to my bedroom, my refuge from the world. The need to wash away the night's events was overwhelming. I peeled off my clothes with a sense of urgency, each piece reminding me of my humiliation with lucas.

The shower's hot spray felt cleansing, as if it could wash away not just the physical residue but the emotional stain Lucas had left. I stood there, letting the water run over me, my thoughts a mix of anger, betrayal, and self-reproach.

"Why did I let myself get drawn back in?" I muttered to myself, clenching my fists so tightly my nails dug into my palms.
