War of Hearts

The silence between us was deafening. I must have perplexed him by my statement, as he just stood there, peering at me. I was faring no better, not really. After all, what more could I do or say? The one whose scent had excited me and whose I had longed to find belonged to the one who could very well end my life here and now if he so wished.

I dared to raise my gaze to his face. He was giving me the oddest expression. I couldn’t blame him for that. After all, it must have sounded beyond strange. There was something else in his reaction, however. A slight flush had formed on his cheeks and he looked as though he didn’t quite comprehend just what I had said while knowing exactly what I meant.
