There was a line on the carpet in the hallway that showed how much I’d been pacing up and down waiting for Ethan to show up.

Maybe, he wouldn’t.

Maybe, he was having a good time at the dance with Claudia.

Maybe, he didn’t even remember that he said he would be over here at…

The chime of the grandfather clock indicated that another hour had gone by. It was now nine o’clock, the time that Ethan said he would be here.  

The doorbell chime indicated that someone was here. I hadn’t even realized that I was holding my breath until I let out a deep sigh.

The bell sounded once again even before I made the ten steps to the door.

I opened the door. Ethan stood there in his black suit, white shirt, and crown on his head. He looked totally hot, like magazine-worthy, but also like a little kid that just came back from Burger King and gotten one of those paper crowns.
