Voices woke me.

Loud, chattering voices echoing through the corridors.

I opened my eyes to bright sunlight streaming through the windows.

My body ached from yesterday's endless preparations.

What time was it? The light suggested late morning, but that could not be right. I never slept that late.

I dragged myself out of bed and walked to the door. The moment I opened it, the noise hit me full force.

The palace was alive with activity. Servants rushed back and forth carrying flowers, linens, trays of crystal glasses. Guards stood at every corner, more than usual.

I stepped into the corridor, staring at the transformation. The palace had always been grand, but now it looked otherworldly. Every surface gleamed.

Elaborate floral arrangements sat on every available table. Rich tapestries I had never seen before hung from the walls.
