Chapter 4

작가: Soda
Outside the Council Room, Vincent blocked my way.

He put on a fake, worried face. "Clara, I know you wanted to prove you're good enough for me. But faking deals is wrong. Admit it now before it gets worse."

"Who do you think you are to question me?" I slapped his hand away. "You're just the Underboss. Respect your place and address me as Lady Clara."

Vincent's face darkened, his eyes turning mean. He adjusted his tie and sneered, "Don't throw away my kindness, Clara. Let me see who saves you inside."

Inside the Council Room, the air was freezing cold.

Three Elders sat high up, surrounded by armed guards. The Chief Elder slammed his gavel down with a loud bang: "Clara Rossi, you are accused of working with enemies, faking your wins, and selling out the Rossi family. This is treason!"

"I didn't."

I raised my head and threw my encrypted tablet onto the table. The deed to Vegas Pier No. 1 and all payment records popped up on the big screen. "The deed and payment records are fully legal. The dark web contract is clear. Where is the enemy?"

The Chief Elder narrowed his eyes. "Fifty dollars? A girl who never shot a gun took down that old man in Vegas for fifty dollars? That makes no sense."

"Because I was blind before and trusted the wrong person. I underestimated myself," I said, glaring at Vincent.

Vincent stepped forward, bowing to the Elders with a pained look: "Elders, as the Underboss, I must speak truth. Clara has the Godfather's blood, but she used to shake when holding a gun. She could never pull off this tactic with a fifty-dollar advisor."

He paused, his voice turning heavy: "I suspect she's controlled by outside forces. She might have leaked our main firepower map."

He slammed the trap shut, pinning the crime of treason onto me!

I laughed out of sheer anger, staring straight into his eyes. "Vincent, you sound so noble, but you just can't accept the truth—without you holding me back, I do better! My success crushed your weak pride!"

Vincent's jaw tightened, his eyes filled with pure hate.

"Clara, how can you say that to Vincent?" Bianca appeared at the door, her eyes red, dropping poison with every word. "Vincent is doing this for the family. You never even came to meetings before, and now you are so brutal... We are just worried you were used by some dangerous mob group."

Calling it a "dangerous mob group" turned the issue from poor skill straight into treason.

The Elders' faces changed. The Chief Elder slammed the table: "Enough! Freeze all of Clara's power and lock her first-place rank until we investigate! Hand over the advisor's real name and all logs now!"

When I walked out of the Council Room, heavy rain was pouring down.

Along the hallway, guards threw mocking looks at me, talking loudly without care.

"I told you she sold herself. Turns out she's just a traitor!"

"Without Underboss Vincent, she is nothing! Bringing shame to the Rossi family!"

My phone buzzed. Old officers who once swore loyalty to my father called me with cold voices: "Lady Clara, for your father's sake, just admit it and step down. Don't push us to the edge."

My hands turned cold as ice.

A black umbrella shaded me from the rain.

Vincent stood in front of me with the umbrella, looking down like a savior. "Clara, do you hear them? Nobody believes you. Listen to me, come back inside and confess. Blame everything on that dark web advisor. Say he forced you. For your father's sake, I will save your life."

Looking at his selfish, fake face, a cold smile touched my lips.

"Blame the advisor?" I stepped closer, my eyes dead cold. "Vincent, did you forget? You were the one who threw me away like trash. Who are you to act like a savior now?"

Vincent's eyes narrowed. He froze on the spot, his face turning pale as paper.

In the dead silence, the dark web terminal in my pocket buzzed hard.

[I'm here. Clara, hold your gun tight. Nobody touches you today.]

The moment the announcement went live, support flooded in from everywhere. Even rival families sent congratulations. At the exact same time, the family hackers traced the source. The fake dark web account that pushed the treason rumor was linked straight to Bianca's private alt account. The truth broke. Bianca's reputation was ruined. Her family disowned her without mercy, froze all her cards, and locked her into an arranged marriage overnight. Her groom? The bastard son of a Russian mob boss—a sadistic maniac who reportedly never kept a fiancée alive for more than a month."No! Vincent! Save me! I don't want to go to Russia!"Bianca screamed her lungs out as they dragged her off. Deep down, she knew her family traded her for border routes. She stood zero chance. And Vincent, the man she treated as her shield, never spoke a single word for her.A rainy night, right before my official inauguration.I walked toward the main estate, and a tall figure rushed out of the shadows.Vincent had

The grand hall was ablaze with light.I sat in the top candidate's seat, my back straight as a board. At every banquet before this, I was just a nobody sitting on the sidelines. Dressed up pretty, no different from a vase on the table. But today, I was one step away from the ultimate throne.Up front, Bianca wore a couture gown. Around her neck was the gemstone necklace she stole from me at the auction. Vincent sat right beside her with his piece hanging on his hip, looking like a guaranteed winner. When he saw me sitting here, Vincent's eyes turned pitch black. He still held that dark, bitter look from being rejected. My phone buzzed. It was a text from Gabe, sitting in the very back row. I glanced out of the corner of my eye. He was calmly wiping down his gun with a handkerchief. The dark gold finish gleamed under the lights.[Relax, Clara. It's time this night got a new master.]I shut off the screen, a small smirk touching my lips."First candidate, Vincent!" the senior capo shoute

The rules for the final showdown dropped on the internal network at midnight. War broke out instantly."The top two must pitch a decade of family expansion," I stared at the tactical sand table, my voice cold as ice. "Three minutes. Live combat tactics and military power."Gabe stood beside me, calmly handing me a tactical pen. "Your play? Paint a pretty lie for those greedy elders?""No," I pressed down on the harbor map and sneered. "I'm going to tell them: Don't fear the blood. Fear weakness."Once upon a time, I made myself small, a quiet nobody just to please Vincent. I backed down for seven straight years. My reward? Being treated like trash and trampled into the dirt.Over the next few days, I swapped my clothes for a sharp black hunting outfit and leather boots.Gabe walked by my side, mapping out every inch of the family's core territories with me.From the freezing, damp container docks at dawn, to the underground armory smelling of gun oil after rain, all the way to midnight

  • Walking Away From the Underboss   Chapter 6

The official announcement from the Rossi family exploded across the network in the middle of the night. The statement was blindingly clear: Clara Rossi's primary results were 100% real. Zero treason, zero foreign interference. The dark web smear thread was permanently banned, and the executive committee was hunting down the hacker behind it.Overnight, the tide turned completely. My phone blew up with hundreds of apologies and kiss-ass messages. The same capos who were screaming to throw me into an interrogation room yesterday were now kissing my boots.I sneered and cleared my inbox. These cheap apologies couldn't erase how close I came to dying under a treason charge. In this family, power was the only god they worshipped, not the truth. The next morning, I walked into the council hall in my heels to grab the territory maps. The busy hall went dead silent the second I pushed open the door. Soldiers stood in small groups, whispering and throwing glances between me and Bianca in the di

I pushed open the heavy wooden doors of the Judgment Hall.Rain poured down the stone steps. At the bottom stood a man in a black suit. He held a heavy tactical case in one hand. Broad shoulders. Long legs. He radiated a suffocating lethality."Did these old fools hurt you?" He stopped right in front of me. His deep voice cut through the rain. His large hand gently rubbed my hair. "Don't be scared. I'm here."Vincent stumbled to a halt right behind me. His pupils shrank into tiny pinpricks. "G... Gabe?! How the hell is it you?!"The old capos and foot soldiers all gasped in shock. In the Mafia today, everyone knew Gabe. He took down infiltrators from three rival families all by himself. He was the underworld's ultimate judge.Vincent tried to block us. "No! How could you work for this girl? Fifty bucks can't buy someone like you!"Then he sneered. "Even if it's him, you still can't clear your name! You sold us out!"An old capo grabbed Vincent and shook his head. "Before the Old Man di
