Chapter 2

Author: Perfect Timing
The crowd broke into an uproar.

"No wonder… The Yorks are one of the greatest aristocratic families! Their status is just below the Campbells!"

"I've heard the CEO of York Group is handsome and devoted to his wife. After getting married, he hardly goes out for business or social events and only focuses on his family. No one even knows who his wife is."

"So, it turns out Ms. White is the wife. No wonder she carries herself so well. Any man would want to protect her."

"She's hit the jackpot, hasn't she?"

Chester York was indeed the CEO of York Group, but after he took over, the company nearly ran into the ground.

Back then, my family had been pushing me hard to get married, so I picked him—handsome, decently educated—and married him without much thought.

Before the wedding, I made him sign an agreement. As long as he behaved himself and stayed a proper husband to me, Nadia Campbell, I would make sure the York family wouldn't have to worry about money ever again.

On the other hand, if he ever betrayed me, he would walk away with nothing.

It was obvious the people here were out of the loop. They had no idea that York Group was already a shadow of what it used to be, yet they were all scrambling to flatter Ms. White.

In less than a minute, I had pieced together most of what had happened. Still, Hazel came first. I couldn't just stand there and wait for the police to arrive.

Hence, I stepped forward without hesitation. "I'm Hazel's mother. Could you tell me what exactly my daughter did to make you punish her like that?"

Ms. White sized me up and down, then let out a cold snort. Her voice dripped with mockery.

"So, you're the woman who seduced my husband and gave birth to that illegitimate child! Everyone, give me a hand and drive this bitch out!"

With the three muscular bodyguards around me, none of the older folks around us dared step forward. They only stood at a distance, pointing and shouting their insults.

"How do you still have the nerve to show your face, homewrecker? You're shameless!"

"And you even brought these filthy men to threaten our pure and proper Ms. White? Have you lost your mind?"

"Mr. York is famous for doting on his wife. If he finds out you're here, he won't let you off! Now, get away before it's too late!"

There was no time to argue.

Seeing that Ms. White had no intention of handing over Hazel, I told my bodyguards to go inside the kindergarten and find her.

The security guards at the entrance couldn't stop them, as they were no match for the young men I had brought. All they could do was stand there as my people pushed past and went in.

Meanwhile, Ms. White grabbed me and forced me to stay where I was. I had no choice but to speak up to the crowd.

"I'm Chester's legal wife. Hazel is our daughter," I said. "See that building next door? I own it. My name is Nadia Campbell. I saw in the parents' group chat that you were hurting my daughter, so I rushed over right away."

I turned slightly to the crowd. "She's twisting the truth and making things up, while you're all just standing there, believing every word she says without critical thinking. What a bunch of fools!

"I don't know if my daughter's even alive right now. You'd better let me go so I can find her. If anything happens, my family will hold all of you accountable!"

The crowd looked at each other, unsure who to believe. Their expressions shifted, and no one dared to speak anymore.

Ms. White wasn't backing down. She put on a confident front. "What proof do you have that you're her? A CEO like her is busy every minute of the day—why would she be here at a kindergarten gate to pick up her child?

"Besides, I've worked next to that building for years, and I've never once heard she has a daughter!"

I didn't bother arguing with her.

At that moment, I got a message from my bodyguards. "Ms. Campbell, we've searched the entire place. We couldn't find Ms. York."

How could that be?

The thought of Hazel lying somewhere alone, too weak to shout for help, and watching her blood spread beneath her…

I couldn't hold back anymore. I shoved through the crowd, desperate to rush into the kindergarten and find her. Yet, the moment I turned around, Ms. White had swiftly locked her elbow around my neck.

"I've always hated homewreckers to the core. Both you and your bastard child deserve to die!"

  • We Have the Same Husband?!   Chapter 9

A sarcastic laugh escaped me. "Back when we got married, it wasn't like I had to choose you. Your family was the one who pushed you toward me. You knew perfectly well the marriage was meant for me to prop up the York family."If you didn't want it, you could've said so. You could've asked for a divorce. Don't act like you were forced into everything. All these years, I've poured countless dollars into your family. It's all gone, but did I ever complain?"You took the money I worked for and spent it on gambling and women. Do you have any conscience at all?"Chester refused to hear any of it. He covered his ears and shouted, trying to drown me out. I looked at him and questioned, "What about Elise? Isn't she having your baby, a precious son? Why don't you find her?"A dark smile crept across his face. "If it weren't for her, you wouldn't have found out about my affairs. All of this started because of her, so of course, she has to pay for it!"As for that so-called son, I never wante

A few days later, I received the preliminary investigation report from the police.Since there had been so many people at the scene, and most of them had simply followed the crowd in the harassment without doing anything that caused me physical harm, the police couldn't make any arrests. At most, they could issue warnings. As for my diamond ring, Elise had tossed it aside carelessly, and it landed in a blind spot with no surveillance. The police spent days combing the area, but still couldn't find it.I looked through the list the station sent me and matched each name to the companies their families owned. After all, the kindergarten was in a commercial district, and the tuition was high. Most of the parents were business owners nearby, so that made things much easier for me.I went straight to their companies. If we were already working together, I would have terminated the partnerships immediately. If we weren't, there would never be any chance of working together in the futur

I let out a dry laugh and shot back, "You think just because you're old, it gives you the right to spout nonsense? Do you even realize I move tens of billions in a minute? I don't need you teaching me how to run my life."Chester spun around and glared at the crowd. "This is a private matter between my wife and me! What business is it of yours? And for the record, my company doesn't even compare to hers. So, don't you dare question her abilities!"Having a wife like mine makes me the happiest man in the world. I don't need to do anything. I just stay home and enjoy my family!"I smiled sarcastically. Right then, the secretary I had sent to investigate Chester arrived in a hurry, handing me the full report. I glanced at Chester, tense and defensive, and at the stunned crowd. Then, I calmly flipped through the files and read aloud, "Chester, in the six years we've been married, you cheated seven times, had countless affairs, and even used my connections to register three additional m

I thought Chester might at least have a shred of pride and refuse to kneel publicly, so I ignored him and walked straight onto the ambulance. To my surprise, he actually knelt, all because he needed me to continue investing in York Group.Afraid I would get in the ambulance and leave, he held onto my leg and shouted, "I'm sorry, honey! You can hit me and scold me all you want, but please don't divorce me! I love you, and Elise was just a mistake!"I promise you I won't go back to her! Every human makes mistakes. Please, just forgive me this one time, okay?"Seeing that Hazel had been treated and was now safe, I paused and looked back, crossing my arms. The sight of Chester begging me made Elise fly into a rage. She charged forward and screamed, "Chester, what do you think you're doing, calling another woman your wife? What about our marriage certificate? If you'd just spoken up for me, I would've forgiven you for cheating on me!"At that, I raised a slight eyebrow and glanced at

The police arrived, bewildered by the chaotic scene. They raised their megaphone to ask, "Who called this in?"Ms. White sniffled and replied in a high-pitched voice, "Oh, that'd be me! You must've been called by my husband. Earlier, a crazy woman appeared out of nowhere and caused a scene at the gate. She even tried to barge in, armed, with bodyguards!"I was trying to protect the children and got hurt in the process. Now, I have no idea where she went. She's terrifying—please, you must catch her!"The onlookers nodded vigorously, eager to back her up. "We witnessed it! Everything she said is true! You must arrest her!"I signaled the bodyguards who were blocking the way to step aside and spoke loudly. "Officers, it was me. I called the police because this woman abused my child, ruined a diamond worth 300 million, and publicly insulted me."Everyone you see here participated in harassing me and tried to cover for her!"Once I spoke, the paramedics noticed the marks on Hazel and

  • We Have the Same Husband?!   Chapter 4

I fished out a folding knife from the hidden pocket of my coat and stabbed it straight into Ms. White's body. Blood trickled down from her inner thighs, soon staining her white dress red.It wasn't enough for me. What I did was far from the marks she had left on Hazel. She screamed and collapsed to the ground. The crowd—a bunch of crazed sycophants—surrounded her, distracting her long enough for me to slip past.Seizing the moment, I rushed into the security office and scooped Hazel into my arms. My bodyguards arrived shortly after and helped get us out safely.I removed my dirty coat and wiped my hands before touching Hazel. Gently, I freed her mouth from the tape and carefully checked her. When I lifted her skirt, I noticed fresh bruises and scratches across her legs. They weren't just the aftermath of a metal rod. Those were clearly knife cuts, nail scratches, and even burnt marks from cigarette butts.Though Hazel had been through so much, she didn't break down crying as I h
