Today was finally the day.
My eyes popped open, and excitement shot through me as I stared at the wedding dress hanging out and waiting to be worn.
I barely felt my movements as I glided across my room, preparing myself for my big day.
My eyes sparkled as I smoothed out the imaginary creases on my wedding gown, a simple but elegant, white, flowy dress.
"You are a rare diamond. Alpha Alex would have been blind not to have chosen you as his; he wouldn't find anyone more suitable for the role of Luna." Maria's lips stretched into a wrinkled smile as she stared at me with pride.
"Thank you." I choked on my words as I was overwhelmed with emotion.
"Your parents would be so proud of you." She informed me and the light in my eyes dimmed at the reminder that they wouldn't be experiencing my big day with me.
"They would be. You raised me well." I replied, shaking off my melancholic thoughts.
Nothing would spoil today for me, I wouldn't let it.
Maria had been my guardian ever since my parents died and I had grown to be the wolf I am today because of her.
"You'll make me cry, Maria, no tears." I blinked rapidly as tears welled in Maria's eyes.
"We can't ruin hours of work now, can we? Come on, we don't want to keep Alpha Alex waiting." She cleaned the corners of her eyes.
With one last look in the mirror, we made our way to the chapel together, where all our pack members and my soon-to-be mate awaited.
Pure joy swelled within me as I slowly walked down the aisle.
All the pack members stood and stared at me with mixed emotions as I passed.
Some with love and others with envy, no doubt wishing they could be me.
My eyes met Alpha Alex's black orbs and held.
This was really happening.
I was about to get married to the love of my life, it was a dream come true.
"You look ravishing." Alpha Alex's eyes trailed down my body as I stood opposite him.
"You don't look too bad yourself," I replied shyly.
"Dearly beloved-" Murray, our eldest pack member and presiding minister of our union began.
I couldn't take my eyes off Alpha Alex even if I wanted to.
I had always known deep within my heart that I would be his Luna one day, but I was shocked when he returned my sentiments.
I knew ours wasn't exactly a union of love, but I knew we could grow...he could grow to love me just as I love him.
"Do you, Scarlet Underwood, accept to be Alpha Alex's mate? To bear his burdens with him, in so doing accepting to be the Luna of this pack? To protect this pack at the cost of your life?" Murray asked, and I gulped as the full weight of my responsibilities as Alpha Alex's mate dawned on me.
"I do." I nodded firmly.
I loved this man, and if the only way to be with him was by sharing his burdens and placing the pack's safety before my life, then I would gladly do it.
"Do you, Alpha Alex, accept Scarlet Underwood as your mate? Would you allow her to share the burdens that you carry as Alpha? Will you promise to protect her as fiercely as you would protect the pack?" The old man turned to Alpha Alex, and I stilled, awaiting his response.
"I do." Alpha Alex replied, his eyes never leaving mine.
I let out a breath that I didn't know I had been holding and tried to calm my racing heart.
"It is now time for the marking ceremony." Murray's voice claimed.
Alpha Alex stepped closer to me, his arms encircling my waist as he drew me closer.
I waited in anticipation as he lowered his head and his breath fanned my neck.
He was going to mark me, and then I would be well and truly his.
My heart beat wildly against my ribcage as his lips grazed the spot he intended to mark.
His canines slowly make contact with my skin, and just when he is about to sink them deeper, a voice pierces through the chapel.
"Stop." A high-pitched, feminine voice pulled our attention.
Everyone looked back as Kayla, my best friend, suddenly made her way towards the aisle.
"Kayla, I thought you couldn't make it." I squealed as I hugged my best frien,d who merely stood stiffly, her eyes blazing with fire.
"I thought you would have already left for your assignment," I commented.
Kayla was meant to be my chief bridesmaid, naturally, because she was my best friend.
She has, however, been assigned a task by Alpha Alex, which meant she wouldn't be able to attend.
I still remember the deep-rooted disappointment I felt when she broke the news to me, but I should have known Kayla would find a way to pull through and be there for me.
"I know you missed me, but you didn't have to disrupt my wedding." I chuckled, and when she didn't respond, I leaned back.
"What's wrong?" I asked when I noticed her blank expression.
"You can't get married to Alpha Alex." She declared loud enough for the whole pack to hear.
"What are you doing, Kayla?" I looked at her in confusion.
"Alpha Alex and I have already mated, and I am pregnant with his child." She announced, and gasps of shock filled the chapel. I was sure mine was the loudest of them all.
"What sort of sick joke is that?" I scowled at her.
Eyes that once showed compassion for me were now filled with nothing but hate.
"Kayla, what's going on?" My eyes pleaded.
"Like I've said before, Alpha Alex and I are already mated, and I am pregnant with his child." She bares her neck and shows me the unmistakable mark lying there.
Meeting with Sun Shuqiu's parents went smoothly. The elderly couple, being of advanced age, fully trusted their daughter and had no objections to whomever she chose. They were very fond of the wife their grandson had married, chatting with her for a long time. After returning to J city, Ji Taiwen and Sun Shuqiu were busy preparing for the wedding. Sun Shuqiu had gotten "married" countless times on screen—be it in traditional Chinese, Western, ancient, or modern styles. This time, however, she wanted a low-key wedding. Ji Taiwen completely respected her wishes, but due to his extensive network in J city, there were some business partners he couldn't afford not to invite, making it impossible to keep things too low-key. Sun Shuqiu understood his predicament, and both of them were very considerate of each other. Before the wedding, Sun Shuqiu met with Zhou Nan. She handed over an exquisitely designed wedding invitation, "Nan, I invite you to our wedding."Zhou Nan looked at the invitat
"I was thinking, what if my figure changes after I have the baby? Would you still love me?"Her large eyes were filled with unshed tears. He gently caressed her face. "What kind of person do you think I am? No matter how you change, I will always love you.""Promise?""I promise."She was very strict with herself; he knew that well. Even though she was no longer in the entertainment industry, she remained a woman who loved beauty. How could she allow her figure to change? The woman was satisfied with his answer. That night, their passion was intense and unending.A few days later, the group boarded a plane bound for a foreign country. Since An Leyu had trouble with her eyes, Ji Taiwen pushed her in a wheelchair. Although Sun Shuqiu felt a bit uncomfortable, she didn't show it in front of Ji Shiwen and Yu Zhi.Ji Shiwen, being a woman, could sense the jealousy beneath Sun Shuqiu's calm exterior."Sister-in-law," Ji Shiwen affectionately linked arms with Sun Shuqiu, her face bea
Sun Shuqiu prepared four dishes and a soup. This was the first time in ten years that she had put so much effort into cooking."My wife is amazing," Ji Taiwen said, holding her hand and pulling her onto his lap. His slender fingers gently held her delicate chin. "You're so capable; how should I reward you?""That depends on what Mr. Ji has in mind.""How about rewarding you with a child?" He smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners.Sun Shuqiu gave him an exasperated look. "Don't be ridiculous. First, try the food and see how it tastes."She got up to fetch a spoon and chopsticks. They sat across from each other at the table. She handed him the chopsticks. "Try this fish. It's braised.""Just looking at it, it already smells delicious." He took the chopsticks and picked up a piece of meat, but instead of eating it himself, he offered it to Sun Shuqiu. "You try it first."Then, he picked up another piece and put it in his own mouth. The taste was good, reminiscent of home. "D
The next day, the two of them woke up early. The man put on the white shirt that Sun Shuqiu had bought for him, and she also helped him blow-dry his hair. The woman changed into a white blouse with a Peter Pan collar and a long skirt, applying just a touch of light makeup. After tidying up, they held hands and left the house. After handing over their IDs and household registration books, they soon received two warm marriage certificates. Paparazzi were everywhere; before they even left the Civil Affairs Bureau, news of their marriage registration was already circulating online. This time, however, all the comments were congratulatory.Sun Shuqiu felt as if she were in a dream. The man held the steering wheel with one hand and tightly gripped her small hand with the other. "Do you know why I chose today to get our marriage certificate?" he asked, his eyes curved into a smile.Sun Shuqiu shook her head, "Why?""Today is the anniversary of our first kiss," the man said.Sun Shuqiu:
Ji Taiwen's proposal using a drone show became the talk of the internet. Ji Shiwen couldn't pretend she didn't see it.Goodness, if a big star was going to become her sister-in-law, how would they address each other in the future?"Yuzhi, if my brother marries your aunt, should you call him brother or uncle-in-law in the future?"A row of ellipsis appeared on Yuzhi's forehead. He really hadn't thought about this."And what about Sun Xiaoqiu, do you call her aunt or sister-in-law?"Ji Shiwen laughed, "I don't know, it's quite difficult."Should she follow her brother's side or Yuzhi's? This was a tough question. On the day of their parents' memorial, the siblings met up, paid their respects, and then found a quiet café to sit and chat."Brother, you and Aunt... oh, no, I mean, Sun Shuqiu... What should I call her?""Call her sister-in-law."Ji Shiwen nodded, "When are you and Sister-in-law getting married?""We haven't gotten the marriage certificate yet.""You’ve already pr
Sun Shuqiu let out a hiss, "I finally understand. I don't deserve good things. I don't deserve a proposal. I just don't deserve... ugh..."He kissed her lips.Swallowing all her discontent.Still in a huff, she struggled to push him away, "Ji Taiwen, tell me, am I not worth it?""Do you really need to know the answer?""Of course.""You are worth it." If she wasn't, why would he still choose her after ten years? "Whatever you want, I will give you.""Don't sweet-talk me. You didn't even propose. I want a lot, what have you given me?"She pushed him away and walked to the window, still fully clothed, gazing at the world outside. They were so close to the sea that they could hear the waves. The sky was not yet dark, but there were already tourists enjoying themselves on the beach."Do you really want a romantic proposal?" He wrapped his arms around her waist from behind.Sun Shuqiu didn't bother repeating herself. Which woman wouldn't want a meaningful proposal? It's just th
