Gregory Stanton disconnected the call. Before I could even draw a breath, he lunged. Two sharp, stinging slaps across my face sent my vision spiraling into darkness as blood dripped steadily from my nose.

He spat at me, his eyes burning with pure hatred. "Like father, like son! I can't believe you two teamed up to steal my wife and my daughter-in-law!"

Dad shoved him aside and stepped in front of me. He glared at Gregory and shouted, "We aren't homewreckers! Selena and I have been together for 40 years, and Emily is legally married to my son!

"Neither of them would ever cheat. You must be mistaken."

Gregory smiled dismissively. "Go ahead and ask around the hospital. Everyone here knows I'm Selena's husband and Emily's father-in-law."

As if on cue, the gathered crowd began to chime in.

"He really is Ms. Ashford's husband!"

"Ms. Ashford and her husband are very close. Whenever they come in for checkups, their daughter-in-law, Ms. Emily Carter, clears the entire floor and arranges special consultations. Mr. Ashford is always there too. The four of them get along so well—there's no way they could be mistaken."

"We've seen Ms. Ashford's son before. This man is definitely not him!"

Gregory's face twisted with rage. "Did you hear that? Are you suggesting all these people are slandering you? I caught you both in the act, yet you still have the nerve to make excuses!

"Lucky for me, my daughter-in-law runs this hospital. Otherwise, you'd probably try to turn this around on me."

I was the one who owned this hospital. After Dad's injury, I had handed the keys to Emily, trusting her to manage it so I could focus on his recovery.

Looking around now, I realized the staff had been completely purged. Every face I recognized was gone; none of the current employees recognized me.

Gregory took our stunned silence as guilt and grew even more brazen. "If I'd known parasites like you would show up, I would have gone public with Selena from the start."

Unaware of the truth, the patients and their families looked at us with disdain.

"These two actually carry themselves pretty well. Hard to believe they'd both go after another man's wife."

"You can't judge a book by its cover. They look perfectly respectable, but who knows what they get up to behind closed doors."

"Getting close to Ms. Ashford… you know what that means."

The man drew out his words suggestively, his eyes repeatedly scanning Dad and me from the waist down. The others caught on immediately and burst into laughter.

Dad had always been a man of integrity, treating everyone with respect throughout his career. He and Mom had spent 40 years together in perfect harmony, yet he remained a shadow to the world. Due to the high-level confidentiality of his work, the public knew Selena Asford—Oakridge's wealthiest woman—was married, but her husband's identity and appearance remained a total mystery.

Hearing those filthy words, Dad went ashen, his body trembling with suppressed rage. I saw him wince as the wound on his lower body began to throb. I bit the tip of my tongue, using the physical sting to anchor myself.

It suddenly hit me that we had come to the hospital today to register Dad as a patient. I turned to him immediately. "Dad, your marriage certificate with Mom can prove that you're legally married!"

Dad snapped out of it and nodded quickly. "Right, right. I have my marriage certificate with Selena!"

With trembling fingers, he reached into his folder and pulled out the folded document. I held my breath, waiting for the truth to silence the room.

But before Dad could unfold it, Gregory snatched it from his hand. His face, which had been tight ever since I mentioned the marriage certificate, shifted the instant he unfolded it. A sharp, jagged laugh escaped him, building into a manic roar that left him gasping for air.

Dad and I exchanged a look of pure, cold dread as a sinking feeling hit us both at once.

The squad of armed personnel that had suddenly rushed in belonged to the security force of a classified government unit. The commanding officer gave Grandpa and me a formal salute, then said solemnly, "Mr. Keller served in our unit until his retirement. He is a distinguished expert in a field critical to this country and has made monumental contributions. He retired early only because of an accidental injury. "Our unit made a solemn commitment to protect Mr. Keller and his immediate family for life. Anyone who harms them will face serious criminal charges and be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."As soon as he finished speaking, Gregory's face turned deathly pale, and his body went limp. As the primary offender, he was immediately detained and hauled away by the armed personnel.Once they had left, Grandpa had the remaining three thrown out as well.Dylan lunged at Mom in a panic. "Mom, do something! You have to get Dad out of this!"But Mom was in no position to help

Grandpa held me as tears streamed down his face. "Elias, my dear grandson, you've been through so much. This is my fault. I came too late."I shook my head weakly and looked anxiously at Dad, who was being treated by the doctors nearby. "Dad—"The doctor sighed, his expression grim. "Mr. Keller Senior, the patient has lost a significant amount of blood and suffered severe exposure to extreme cold. There are signs of severe frostbite and tissue damage throughout his body."If he had been found any later, we might not have been able to save his lower body. Amputation would have been inevitable."My heart sank. A mix of fury and grief surged through me, threatening to swallow me whole.Just then, the operating room door opened. Mom looked frail as Gregory helped her out. There was a trace of relief on her face as she whispered to him, "Gregory, I've already gone through with the abortion. You can finally rest easy now."I couldn't believe they were still focused on the abortion at

Mom visibly stiffened. She looked away guiltily, forcing herself to stay calm. "Your grandpa is old. There's no need to bother him with our business. Besides, you're too young to be meddling in adult matters."This is just a small punishment; nothing serious will happen. Gregory has always been kind and gentle. He's just upset right now—"Kind and gentle? I looked at the triumphant sneer on Gregory's face and felt nothing but despair.Soon, several bodyguards roughly dragged my unconscious dad and me into an abandoned walk-in freezer in the hospital's basement.Gregory followed us to the door and laughed coldly. "Didn't you say your dad lost a lot of blood and is about to die? The temperature here is low enough to help stop the bleeding."The heavy iron door slammed shut with a loud clang, and the biting cold instantly enveloped us.I pounded on the door frantically. "Open the door! Let us out!"Gregory's impatient shout came from outside, followed by a heavy blow against the do

Hearing that familiar voice, I nearly cried with joy. Mom had arrived."Mom, please help Dad! He's badly hurt. He's not going to make it!" I cried out.Mom strode in, flanked by bodyguards. She took in the scene, her brow furrowed. But the next moment, her gaze swept right past me and Dad, who was barely holding on. She rushed to Gregory's side, her voice thick with concern. "Gregory, are you okay? Are you hurt anywhere?"Gregory shoved her hand away and pointed angrily at Dad and me. "Do I look okay? These two bastards nearly drove me insane! Selena, I've turned a blind eye to your fooling around before, but this is too much!"Not only did you get yourself pregnant, but you also let this father and son come to the hospital specifically to provoke me. What do you take me for?"Mom's face turned pale. Her eyes flickered with hesitation as they swept over the miserable state Dad and I were in. She opened her mouth to speak, but Gregory didn't give her the chance. He exploded, "I

Dylan Ashford looked Gregory over anxiously from head to toe and relaxed only after confirming he wasn't hurt.Gregory waited until Dylan was finished, then let out a grunt. "A daughter-in-law really isn't as reliable as a son. I called Emily a long time ago, but she still hasn't arrived."Dylan shrugged. "Dad, Emily is still stuck in a meeting. She was worried about you being here alone, so she asked me to come ahead of her. She'll be here soon."Their casual conversation hit me like a knife to the chest. Emily really had cheated on me.Dad gripped my hand, his voice thick with regret. "Elias, this is my fault. I misjudged her. I should have picked someone better for you."I shook my head hard and squeezed his hand back. Then, looking at Leonard, I pleaded, "Leonard, let me take my dad out of here first."Just as Leonard was about to speak, Dylan shoved him aside and began punching and kicking me. "You shameless piece of trash! How dare you steal my wife! I'm going to beat you t

The person who arrived was Leonard Kingsley, the hospital's head of security. The moment I saw him, I pushed through the pain and stood up. "Leonard, thank goodness you're still here! My dad and I are in trouble!"Leonard paused for a moment, then hurried over.Gregory let out a cold snort. "What took you so long? And since when does the hospital let trash like them through the door?"I caught the men Selena and Emily were cheating with, and before I could even do anything, they were already making a scene. What a headache." Leonard frowned at Gregory.I felt a quiet wave of relief. Leonard was a longtime employee I had personally promoted, so he would definitely be on my side.To my surprise, he glanced at Dad and me with an unreadable expression. My stomach dropped instantly. The next second, Leonard turned to Gregory with a fawning smile. "Aren't you Ms. Ashford's husband? My sincerest apologies, sir. We've been swamped today. I hope you'll forgive us for keeping you waitin
