Blake’s pov

I moved every corner of the hospital like a man possessed, checking every room, every waiting area, every corner where Elena might be hiding.

She wasn't there.

"Sir, you can't just—" A nurse tried to stop me. I pushed past her without a word.

I threw open the door to Room 412.

Empty. No sign that anyone had been there at all.

"Where is she?"

I found Elena's healer in the hallway, she looked up from her clipboard and immediately tensed when she saw me.

"Mr. Blake. I was wondering wh

Blake’s povI threw Lydia in the dungeon. I wanted to strangle her but apparently, it’s not a good idea. The dungeon was cold and dark."Do you know why you're here?" I asked. She pressed herself against the far wall of the cell, as far from me as she could get. Her eyes were wide with genuine fear now."Blake, please. I'm pregnant with your child. You can't—""Answer the question."A sob escaped her. "Because of what I did to Elena.""Yes."She suddenly burst into laughter, It was a horrible that made me grit my teeth."Did you ever truly love me?" she asked. "Even once?"I didn't answer."Of course you didn't." She wiped her eyes with the back of her hand, smearing mascara across her cheeks. "But here's the thing, Blake, if you loved Elena so much, how could you have slept with me?""Shut up.""How many times was it? Dozens? Hundreds?" Her voice rose, hysteria bleeding through. "Every night, you came to my bed. You chose me over her and now you want to pretend you're the devoted ma

Jacob’s povBlood drained from Blake’s face when he realized what the healer meant"Elena voluntarily refused treatment." She said it quietly, "She came in for her final appointment. We explained the options that might buy her more time. She declined everything."Blake stood frozen, “what?”"She said she'd made her peace with it," the healer continued. "Said she didn't want to spend her last days hooked up to machines and drowning in false hope.""That's not—" Blake's voice cracked. "She wouldn't just give up."But I knew better, I'd been there. I'd watched Elena climb into the witch's car.She hadn't given up, she'd chosen to leave on her own terms."Where is she now?" He demanded. "Where did she go?""I don't know."Blake turned to me, "Jacob. You know, don't you? You know where she is."I said nothing."Tell me." He grabbed my shoulders. "Please. I'm begging you.""Why should I?" I bit out, "So you can show up at the last minute and pretend you care? So you can ease your guilt befo

  • When I’m Gone, You Love   Chapter 27: The Truth

Blake’s pov"Get off her bed." My voice was barely human. "You have no right.""I don't know what you're talking about—""I saw them." I towered over her, my chest heaving with rage. "Every message you sent her."Her face went pale. "Those were just—I was just defending what was mine—""Nothing about me was ever yours." I hauled her to her feet, "What we had was mutual exploitation, nothing more.""That's not true." Tears welled in her eyes, "Blake, I loved you. I still love you. Everything I did was because I wanted us to be together—"She cut short and sent me a glare, “Did you ever love me?" I released her arm, stepping back. "I asked you a question." She prompted when I said nothing."I never loved you." I hissed at her, "I was seeking excitement. Something to make me feel powerful while I climbed the ranks." I met her eyes. "You were convenient, Lydia. That's all you ever were."Her face crumpled."I would rather give up my Alpha position," I said slowly, "than stay married to

  • When I’m Gone, You Love   Chapter 26: The Messages

Blake’s povThe scandal was everywhere.Every pack news channel and gossip outlet were all running the same story. Photos of me and Lydia, including speculation about Elena's disappearance. Someone had leaked everything and I knew exactly who.I found Lydia in my living room, examining her nails like she didn't have a care in the world. She looked up when I walked in."Blake, I heard about the news coverage." She shook her head sadly. "It's terrible. Who would do something like this?""Don't play games with me." I stopped in front of her, "You did this. You leaked those photos."Her eyes widened, "Me? Blake, that's ridiculous. I'm the Beta's daughter of Silver Ridge Pack. Do you really think I would release scandalous gossip that could destroy my own reputation?" She stood, pressing a hand to her chest. "My father would be humiliated. My position as Chief Warrior would be compromised. Why would I sabotage myself?""Because you wanted Elena gone—"Lydia gasped. Her hand flew to her st

  • When I’m Gone, You Love   Chapter 25: The Only Daughter-in-Law

Lydia’s povBlake had thrown me out like garbage. The humiliation burned through me as I drove away from his house, my hands shaking on the steering wheel. I'd shown up in my best silk hoping that he would lose control and take me right there on the porch. But he has rejected me.For her, I thought bitterly. He rejected me for that sickly, pathetic Omega.Elena. Always Elena, even when she was gone, she still had her claws in him. He was buying moonflowers and rearranging furniture and preparing the house like she was going to walk through the door at any moment. She wasn't coming back. I needed leverage. Something that would force Blake to acknowledge me, and stop this ridiculous obsession with his dying mate and focus on what actually mattered. And I knew who that was exactly; His mother.Margaret Hayes lived in their old family estate at the edge of pack territory.Margaret herself was no different. She was regal and has never hidden the fact that she didn’t like me. Well, she ju

  • When I’m Gone, You Love   Chapter 24: The Diary

Blake’s povThe house was empty when I returned.I stood in the doorway, listening to the silence and realized how lonely it was in here."Elena?" My voice echoed back at me, mocking. "Elena, are you here?"Nothing.I walked through the rooms like a ghost haunting his own home. The kitchen where she'd cooked meals I'd barely tasted. The living room where she'd waited for me night after night, dinner growing cold on the table. The bedroom where I'd slept beside her without ever really seeing her. She's gone, my wolf said quietly. We drove her away.I sank onto the edge of our bed and pressed my palms against my eyes.I tried to lay down when I felt something tucked in between the mattress and the headboard. I pulled it out and gasped when I saw it was her diary.I couldn’t decide if I wanted to read it or not, It was private, most innermost thoughts. Reading it felt like trespassing, like breaking into a sacred space I had no right to enter. But I was desperate. I opened to the first
