Blake‘s POV

"Please." Her grip tightened. "Just help me back onto the bed. I tried to stand when I heard you coming, and now I feel dizzy."

I lifted her carefully and set her back on the hospital bed, making sure she was settled against the pillows. Her hand stayed locked around mine the entire time, refusing to let go.

"There." I pulled free. "You're fine. I'm leaving."

"Where are you going?"

"Elena is missing." The words didn’t leave a good taste in my mouth, "I have to find her."

  • When I’m Gone, You Love   Chapter 125 Reunion

Cedrick's POVThe boy held my hand and pulled me toward the harbor, and I let him lead because I didn't trust myself to choose a direction on my own.Little Elan was talking about the boats in the harbor when my phone vibrated in my pocket. I ignored it. It vibrated again. I pulled it out and read the message from Henry.Embassy incident. Northern delegates requesting immediate audience. Cannot be postponed.I stopped walking. The boy looked up at me with a question forming on his face, and I looked down at him and felt my wolf press against my ribs with a need so fierce it nearly tore me apart. The phone vibrated a third time. Henry, again: Cedrick. Now.I crouched beside the boy. He looked at me with those dark, watchful eyes, and I wanted to tell him something, anything, but the words I had were too large for a child and too dangerous for a stranger."I have to go," I said. "But someone will take you to your mama."His face fell. "You're not coming?""Not today."I called Henry. H

  • When I’m Gone, You Love   Chapter 124 Do you want to meet her?"

Cedrick's POVThe town was small enough that a stranger stood out.I dressed accordingly in plain clothes, a worn jacket, a cap pulled low. Henry waited in the car two streets away with instructions to intervene only if I signaled. My wolf was pulled deep inside me, suppressed to the point where even another wolf would have trouble reading my rank from scent alone.I had spent three years searching for her.The breakthrough had come two weeks ago. A shipping manifest with a familiar name attached to a small coastal address. A town I'd never heard of, far from any pack territory, exactly the kind of place someone would go if they wanted to stop being found.I walked through the town in the early afternoon. The streets were narrow and cobbled, lined with whitewashed buildings and small shops selling fish and bread and the ordinary goods of ordinary lives. The air smelled of salt and seaweed and wood smoke, and my wolf pressed against my ribs with a restlessness that had nothing to do wi

  • When I’m Gone, You Love   Chapter 123 AfterThree Years

Beatrice's POVMy son had Cedrick's eyes.He was two and a half years old, with dark hair that curled behind his ears and a stubborn jaw that came from my side and those eyes, dark and sharp and watchful, that came from his. He was fierce and quiet and completely fearless, and he had no idea that his father was a king who didn't know he existed.I named him Elan.We lived in a small house on the coast of a country I'd never visited before Martin brought me here. The town was quiet, populated mostly by fishermen and their families, far enough from any major pack territory that the scent of wolves was rare in the air. I worked as a teacher at the local school. The pay was modest, but it covered rent and food and the small luxuries I allowed myself, a book now and then, a toy for Elan, fresh flowers on the kitchen table because my mother had always kept flowers on ours.Martin came often. He arrived every few weeks with bags of gifts for him, stuffed animals and picture books and a wood

  • When I’m Gone, You Love   Chapter 122 She's gone, Cedrick,

Beatrice's POVI waited for the shift change. The guards rotated at six in the evening. The incoming pair always spent the first ten minutes in the kitchen with Clara, drinking the tea she prepared for them, reviewing the log from the previous shift. Ten minutes when the front door was unwatched and the corridor was empty and the only eyes on the residence belonged to a woman who had spent the last three days slipping a mild sedative into Clara's evening tea to ensure she slept deeply and early.I felt guilty about the sedative. Clara had been kind to me, kinder than anyone else in Cedrick's household, and drugging her tea felt like a betrayal of the only genuine friendship I'd made inside these walls. But the baby needed me to leave, and leaving required Clara to sleep, and guilt was a luxury I would deal with once my child was safe.At five-thirty, I changed. Martin had smuggled the servant's uniform through the garden gate two days ago, folded into a cloth bag with a pair of flat s

  • When I’m Gone, You Love   Chapter 121 Neah’s Scoop: Martin’s Secret Meeting & Escape

Beatrice's POVMartin's owl arrived at midnight with a single line on the paper tied to its leg.The evidence is almost secured. Two weeks at most. Are you ready?I sat on the edge of my bed with the note in my hand and my wolf curled quiet around the baby and the residence dark and still around me. Clara was asleep. The guards had changed shift an hour ago. The only sound was the owl rustling its feathers on the windowsill, waiting for a reply.I had been thinking about this for weeks. Turning it over in the dark hours, weighing it against everything I stood to lose and everything I stood to gain. Callum's case was moving. The evidence that would clear his name was within reach. But Cedrick's fury after the hospital was growing worse by the day, and his threat to find the father of my child meant that every hour I spent inside this kingdom brought the secret closer to collapse. If Cedrick discovered the baby was his, he would take it. I was as certain of that as I was of my own name.

  • When I’m Gone, You Love   Chapter 120 – Not Mine

Cedrick's POV"How long," I said.Beatrice looked at me. "How long what?""How long has this been going on." I stepped into the kitchen. My wolf was pressing forward, flooding the small room with a dominance that made Clara's teacups rattle in their saucers on the shelf. "The meetings. The whispers. The letters. How long have you and Martin been doing this behind my back?""There's nothing going on," Beatrice said."You're sitting in my kitchen with my woman discussing things you won't say in front of me." I looked at Martin. "When did it start?"Martin met my gaze without flinching. "We were talking, Cedrick. That's all.""Get out of my house.""It's her house," Martin said. "You put her in it.""Get out.""Cedrick, leave," Beatrice said. She stood from the table, and her voice was firm and tired and carried the weight of a woman who had been through this scene too many times to feel anything about it anymore. "Please. Just leave.""You're asking me to leave so you can sit alone with

Elena’s povLydia didn't wait to be invited in.She stepped past Blake like he wasn't even there, her heels clicking against our hardwood floors. "I'm here in my capacity as Chief Warrior," she announced, smoothing her dress as she surveyed our living room. "A formal visit."Blake moved to block h
